EZRA'S

P.O.V

I slammed the office door, the sight sending anger coursing through my body. How could I have been so stupid? I thought allowing her to train with Tanner would benefit her. Instead, it was making them closer each day they spent together. 'If he lays a hand on my mate other than training, I will rip his heart out where he stands and EAT IT!' Kingston roared in my mind.

His anger only added to my own.

'Tomorrow, we leave for four days. In those four days we must get her to fall for us.'

'No mutt, no problem.' Kingston replied.

Except there was a problem. No matter what I did, I couldn't get her to look at me the way she just was looking at Tanner. I couldn't hear what they were saying but the look in her eyes told me that she cared for him. More than I thought. 'What if she is falling for him? What do we do then?' I asked my wolf, knowing he wouldn't have the right answers. He was an animal after all, and they only acted on pure instinct.

'Kill him.' He stated as if that would ever be the correct way to handle it.

I chose to close the link with my barbaric wolf and mind link Uriah. My only trusted friend.

'Hey bud, you busy?' I asked.

'When am I ever busy?'

'When you have company! I replied honestly.

There had been countless times I had unknowingly mind linked him while he was f*****g. Crazy thing was, the dumbass responded each time. You can't mistake the sounds of one out of breath. Only a few things will do that, one of which was his favorite activity. 'Well, I am not currently busy, nor will I be for the foreseeable future. What's up?'

The poor guy was in a similar boat to my own. Except he didn't cause the trauma to his mate or have a hand in it at all. He was just receiving the short end of the stick to what was left of his broken mate.

'Want to grab a drink and drink away our sorrows in the office?'

'Sure man, anything is better than what I am doing now. Be there in a minute.' He said cutting the link.

Within minutes the door swung open without a knock. Uriah swiftly walked in, kicking the door closed behind him. Hands full with whiskey.

"So, what are we drinking for tonight?" He asked as he poured his glass to the rim with golden liquid.

"Does there need to be a reason?"

"Not at this point." He said as he took a seat, letting out a sigh.

"What the hell happened to us man?" I asked as I took a sip of my own drink.

"Fucking fated mates is what happened. Who said that this was supposed to be easy? How it all just comes naturally when you meet. The instant connection of love. It's all a bunch of bullshit."

"Well, sometimes it does click instantly. But some assholes go and f**k it up." I stated.

"And some assholes are dealt the remaining cards from those other assholes who f****d it up."

"We both truly are fucked, aren't we?" I asked as I leaned back in my seat.

"Appears that way."

"I've done all I can think of. Flowers, chocolates, letters. Nothing has helped." I stated.

"Maybe she just isn't like most girls." He said as he swirled his drink around in his glass.

"You can say that again."

"No. What I mean is that flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals, and letters don't woo her. You must dig deeper. Find what she desires the most from a mate's affection, use that to win her back." He said taking another drink. "Have you listened to your own advice?"

"Well, no. But I have a good reason." He replied.

"That reason being?"

"My mate doesn't leave her room, shuts completely down when I am near. I know her name from Tegan. That is all. I can't even get a single word from her mouth. Anytime I go to her, she is in the corner shaking. I can't woo her if she is scared of me." He had a point; his situation was far worse than mine. I wished I could help him. But at this point we were both on our own in our misery.

We drank until the sun peaked in the sky. Uriah had long since left for bed while I sat up thinking about how I was losing my mate to another man and what I needed to do to correct that. Killing him was not an option no matter what Kingston states. I would do it the human way, the hard way. These four days were exactly what I needed. I would go above and beyond to get her back.

I retired to my own room to pack up for the trip with a new mindset in place. I can't let another man steal my woman. I just had to step up my game. Getting to know her roots is where that would help me. I knew she had a rough upbringing but surely something there will help me see her true self. The one she hides from me. I needed to know her on a deeper level so that I could win her heart.

Once I was packed, I went downstairs to get the car. I wouldn't be using a driver, I wanted strict alone time with her. Which meant no one else was coming along. Just Tegan, Elias and me. The way it should be.

I got the car started and put my bag inside. I also got Elias's pack and play, some toys, and some necessary items we will need aside from his own clothes.

Once I was done, I went to Elias's room, getting him up. I put a bag of breastmilk in a warm bath to prepare it for when he was ready to eat. I gave him his morning bath, then dressed for the day. By the time he was ready the milk was thawed and good to go. I sat down and started to feed him when Tegan walked in.

"Oh, you're here." She said surprised.

"I am. Just feeding Elias. The car is ready, we just have to load up and leave when you're ready." I said smiling. I wanted everything to be ready for when she woke up. I wanted her to only have to worry about herself today.

"Okay, I am just going to change and grab my bag then we can head out." She said as she walked back to her conjoined room.

I burped Elias and got him in his car seat. Once he was ready, I carried him and his bag down to the car. As I strapped him in, Tegan appeared in the doorway, looking more beautiful than ever.

"Are you ready?" I asked as I put her bag in the car.

"As ready as I'll ever be, I assume." She replied as she got into the passenger seat.

Now, to put my new plan into action.
