EZRA'S P.O.V

When we pulled into the territory arriving at the pack house, none other than Tanner himself stood in the driveway. Shirt off, abs flexed, in the middle of the winter as if the weather had no effects on him. I liked Tanner, don't get me wrong but something about their relationship ate away at me. She confided in him, she trusted him. I wasn't sure but I felt like she may have even loved him. Tegan showed him affection I desired to have for myself. The simplest affections, such as lying her head on his shoulder for comfort, something my body and mind craved.

Spending time at her old home made me realize she was far from the average girl. My silly flowers just weren't enough. But I could do better and she was worth fighting for. I would lay my life on the line for her if need be, but she could handle herself, that much was clear. When we came to a complete stop Tegan flung her door open running right into his arms, making Kingston rage in my head with jealousy.

"Who is that?" Fredrick asked, looking out the window.

"That is one of my best warriors, Tanner Brooks. He has been training your sister in combat for a while now." I said, never taking my eyes off of them.

Their embrace was tight, a big bear hug I'd call it, he was a hybrid bear afterall. Tegan's feet dangled in the suspended air, as he twirled her around in circles as if they had been apart for years.

"I never hugged my combat trainers like that." Fredrick replied back while slapping a hand on my shoulder.

"Neither did I." I spat out trying to contain my raging beast within.

"Looks like you've got your work cut out for you then." He said, before exiting the car.

I followed suit, unstrapping Elias as I made my way over.

"Tanner, this is my brother, Fredrick." Tegan introduced as Tanner's face turned sour.

"I'd say it's nice to meet you but I would be lying." Tanner spat out angrily.

"I can see you know me. I respect your honesty. But I assure you, I would never treat Tegan the way that my family did."

"Pff. You wouldn't get the chance to even try." Tanner replied with a hint of threat in his tone.

"Tanner, Fredrick is our guest. And I expect everyone to treat him as such. Do you understand me?" Tegan said while looking back and forth between the two of them.

"Of course,my Queen." Tanner said before looking at me for the first time since arriving. "Welcome home my King, fatherhood suits you." He said, with a bow.

"Thank you, Tanner." I simply replied. Although Kingston had other words he wished to say.

"Well, I have duties to attend to, if you will excuse me." Tanner said bowing before trying to take his leave.

"Hey, training starts back up tomorrow." Tegan said, making Tanner nod in response.

Tegan took Elias from me as she proceeded to ascend the stairs. I then began to unload the car.

"Yeah, training." Fredrick replied with a laugh followed by a huff.

"What don't you agree?"

"It's not that, it's just that's not exactly how I would picture a trainer and their trainees relationship to be. It's just odd." He responded as he grabbed a few bags.

So I wasn't the only one who thought that. I wondered how many others replace their relationship odd. If only I had a way of knowing what went on during those sessions...

"I hadn't trained in a long time, I miss it, truth be told." Fredrick then said, giving me an idea.

"Oh yeah? How would you like to assist Tanner with training your sister?"

"I don't think either of them would like that."

"She is becoming more powerful and she needs to work on that. More than one person training her at once would help. Plus, not many actually know of her gifts, but you do and so does Tanner. It would benefit her in more ways than one." "What's the catch?" He then asked.

"You said you wanted to help. I am giving you that chance, do you not want it?"

"I do, it's just, why me?"

"I just told you."

"What else do you want, King Ezra? You surely wouldn't trust me alone with her, so why ask me of all people."

"You won't be alone." I replied.

"So, no ulterior motives?"

"Maybe one." I said, honestly.

"I knew it, what is it?"

"I just want to know how they are alone together."

"So in other words you want me to spy on my sister?" He asked.

"Not a spy. More like if you see anything out of the normal going on between them, let me know."

"I don't feel comfortable being a fly on the wall for you, King." He said.

"I can understand that. I'm not asking for what they speak about or what they do. I just want you to observe them alone and tell me if you think there is something there." "Something as in what exactly?"

"As in, do I need to fear losing my mate." I replied looking at him, hoping he could see how badly I needed these answers.

"You could ask literally anyone else. Why me?" He asked.

"Because I know you want what's best for her. If you see that and think that he is what is best, I want you to tell me." I said truthfully as my heart clenched in my chest at the thought. "And you would just let her go?"

"Of course I wouldn't. I would fight like hell to chase her back even harder. But I just need to know how far gone our bond is." I replied in a defeated sigh.

"Fine. I will tell you what I observe. I will watch for a bit, and give you one report of what I think. Just one, no more, no less." He said, looking me in the eyes. "That's all I'm asking for." I responded back.

He stuck his hand out, I gladly took it into my own as we shook in agreement. This may have been a breach of privacy in a way. But I was desperate. I could see with my eyes the excitement she felt when she saw him. I could see in her eyes the love that shined brightly. But what kind of love was it? I had the slightest idea. That's what I needed to know. I needed to know if what she felt for him was more than what she felt for me and if I stood a chance at getting her back.

I knew in my heart that I would stop at no end to win her over, I wouldn't stop till the day I took my last breath.

She was my wife, the mother of my child, and my fated mate. But most of all, she was my Queen.

I would never take her for granted again. She was the only one for me, and I was determined to get her back.
