TEGAN'S

P.O.V

Now that the interviews were done, the ball was the next big event. Once the ball comes to an end, then we can begin to really prepare for what's coming. We had already been researching dates and having the Kingdom train with different skills so that we were as prepared as we could be. But it just didn't feel like enough. We really needed to figure out how to get more information. What little I have managed to see, wasn't nearly enough.

As I sat in front of the mirror looking at my reflection I looked over to the place I was hit in my last dream. I was terrified of that happening again. But if he could hurt me, does that mean I could also hurt him? If that were the case then I needed to be ready even in my sleep for a potential battle. How the f**k does one even prepare for such a thing?

My bedroom door swung open and closed with a slam, pulling me instantly from my thoughts. I looked over to see Imagen leaned against the now closed door. Her eyes bulged as if she had seen a ghost, which truth be told wasn't far fetched. Her breath was ragged and shallow. Her body stuck in one spot, not moving from the door. Almost like she was in shock.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked now concerned.

She didn't respond by even looking at me. Tears were surfacing, clouding her eyes.

"Imagen, hey." I said jumping up from my seat and rushing over to her. "Talk to me, what happened?" I asked as I pulled her into my arms.

'My...Mate...' She signed once she pulled away.

"You found him? That's wonderful news... Right?" I asked, confused.

I wasn't surprised she would replace her mate, today was the Gala and many wolves from around the world would be coming. Her mate must've been among them.

'No... She signed as tears surfaced once again. 'Not him.' She signed again before her body slid down the door until she was sitting on the ground.

"It's okay, we can figure this out." I said, sitting next to her.

'I have to reject him T. She signed.

"Why?"

'Because of who he is.

"Who is it?" I asked, now concerned.

Her eyes looked up to me, darting side to side as if searching for the right words to say.

'You need to get ready. The ball will happen soon...' She signed, ignoring my question.

I didn't push however, I could tell she wasn't ready to talk about it out loud yet. I understood the feeling. Once the words were out there, there was no taking them back. "Yeah, so do you." I said, with a nudge.

'But I found my mate, I am no longer invited.' She signed before looking down.

"Oh, you're coming. I already had dresses brought up for you to choose from." I said as I stood, making her head snap up.

"Come on, let's get ready." I said with my hand extended to help her off the ground. "Let's go pamper ourselves and forget about our stupid mates, yeah?" I said, making a small smile spread across her saddened face.

We both spent the rest of the time getting ready. I chose an elegant light blue vintage dress to match the theme, whereas she chose a vintage emerald colored dress that complemented her very well. Once our hair and make up was completed it was time to get down to the ball. I was expected to be early so that I could make sure everything was in order and to greet each attendee.

Luckily I had a babysitter in place for Elias. Lilyanna came home early and said she would keep him all night, giving me the complete day and night baby free. I hadn't been kid free both day and night ever. Yes, I had help with part of the day or night, but mostly it was on me. Which was the joy of parenthood, but a complete day and night free every once in a while was a goddess gift sent. Lilyanna said she wouldn't be attending the ball, she would rather have a night in with her grandson. I tried reasoning but that woman was as hard headed as a dang mule.

'Like someone else I know! Gemma piped up.

'Yeah, her son.' I replied with a chuckle.

'Here I was thinking maybe it was a Queen trait.' She said back, making me roll my eyes.

'I am not hard headed.' I replied defensively, but who was I kidding?

I was more hard headed than Lilyanna herself. I wouldn't even let Ezra explain his dream. Mostly because I was beyond jealous of him dreaming about her of all people.

However, now that I've had a few days to calm myself down and think about it, the more I see how immature I really am. He deserved a chance to explain himself. Especially since I had no right to be jealous in the first place. I just had so much anger in me about her in general that I didn't even want to hear it. But being like that wasn't right, it was something I needed to work on, not only myself but also for others. I can't shut everyone down that slightly upsets me. I was technically still the Queen and that sets an awful example of what a Queen should represent and be.

'You got that right.' Gemma said, making me roll my eyes again.

'I'm admitting my faults, what else do you want me to do?' I asked, annoyed.

'Be about them. Admitting and acting on them are two different things. Gemma replied.

I swear if my mother was here, I feel like her and Gemma would be two peas in a pod. 'Then she is great in my eyes. Gemma said, making me smile.

Taking one last look in the mirror, I was ready to slay this ball. Not literally of course.

"Ready?" I asked Imagen. She shook her head yes in response.

We both walked down to the ball together. When I entered Ezra was already there telling the caterers where the food needs to be, and what he expected of the servers. He was in boss mode and it kind of turned me on. I have been so hot and cold with my emotions lately, it was like Ezra and I had switched places. He was like this at the beginning and now it's been only me.

'That needs to change.' Gemma said. Which I agreed, it was time for a change.

I walked over to him without looking at anyone else, although the room was already starting to fill with people. When I got near he turned to look at me, as if he sensed my presence.

"Tegan... Hey." He said with his half crooked smile.

Being the spontaneous girl that I am, I decided f**k it and went with my heart rather than my head. When close enough, I grabbed his head pulling him down to my level. My lips crashed against his, with hunger and need.
