Chapter 5 You Will Regret It

Charles and Jeremy looked at each other. How could we possibly know? Elsa also noticed their movements and inched nearer to ask, “What’s going on?” “Oh, it’s nothing.” Before Colton could speak, Charles hurriedly changed the subject and suggested, “Let’s play Truth or Dare.” Elsa looked at Colton with a smile and playfully said, “Colt?” Colton gave a nonchalant nod. “Sure.” They spun a wine bottle on the table, and as it wobbled to a stop, the mouth of the bottle ended up pointing right at Colton. Charles chuckled aloud. He was about to take action when he saw Colton give him a casual glance. Charles trembled slightly and could only choose a safe question. “Colt, how did you meet Elsa?” Elsa’s body stiffened as she looked at Colton beside her. Colton picked up the wineglass on the table and gulped its contents in one gulp, his eyes brimming with a hint of tenderness. “Elsa saved my life.” “She saved your life?” Everyone was surprised, but Elsa flashed a profound smile. She lowered her head and gently leaned onto Colton’s body. Twenty years ago, Colton and a young girl were kidnapped together. After relying on each other for survival for several days, he found an opportunity to escape and left the young girl behind, who waited for him to return and rescue her. However, it was unclear what happened afterward. By the time he returned with help, the young girl had already disappeared without a trace, and even the kidnappers couldn’t be found. The only thing he remembered was the heart-shaped birthmark on the little girl’s arm. After being forced to marry Francesca, he accidentally stumbled upon Elsa, who was performing at a bar, and recognized her through the birthmark on her arm. During those dark years when they relied on each other for survival, their bond grew stronger, becoming their only salvation. After approaching her, Colton, with his available resources, played a pivotal role in helping her rise to fame and success. However, as he was still married to Francesca, he couldn’t marry her. Colton’s face darkened once again as Francesca popped up in his mind. Upon seeing the unpleasant expression on his face, Elsa thought he had recalled some unhappy memories. She quickly said, “I’m tired. Let’s call it a day.” Colton stood up and wrapped his arms around Elsa’s waist. “Let’s go. I’ll take you home.” Everyone started making a commotion. Elsa’s face also flushed red as she nestled in his arms and walked out the door. She couldn’t help but feel secretly delighted as Colton’s attitude toward her today was exceptionally gentle. She assumed it was because he recalled the past. As they arrived at her condominium by car, Elsa drew a circle on his chest with her slender finger and posed the question, “Will you come up with me?” Just as Colton was about to speak, the phone in his pocket suddenly rang. Phillip’s furious roar could be heard. “You scoundrel! What’s this about a divorce?” His anger was palpable over the phone. After making a gesture to Elsa, Colton casually walked away. Behind him, Elsa tightly clenched her palm, a hint of resentment flashing in her eyes. Colton didn’t notice her emotions at all, and instead explained to Phillip, “Francesca is just throwing a tantrum. Besides, our divorce is just a matter of time, so you should get used to it.” Phillip was furious. “I’ll say it again, as long as I’m alive, that woman will never set foot in the Zeller family!” Colton calmly looked at Phillip, expressing his stance. Phillip’s tone suddenly softened as though he had thought of something. He sighed and said to Colton, “Fran is a good girl. If you let her go, you’ll regret it.”
