Destroyer -
Chapter 10
“Where would it be sweetheart?” Destroyer looked around the station. He was currently at an airport and was looking at his new surroundings. He looked at the woman in front of him and then looked at the boards with different plane locations.
“Ill...New York?” He asked and typed behind the desk. He remembered that Archie said he had a friend there that would take him in until he finally settled.
“That’ll be 86.38.” He nodded and dug in his bag for the money that Archie had given him.
“Will that be the regular, supernatural or mixed flight?”
“Any will do.” He told the lady and gave him his ticket and change. He held onto it and walked away from the line. He looked at the gates and then his ticket. He sat near the one he was supposed to and waited for his flight. He felt horrible that he left without saying goodbye to Charlie or Archie.
He dug in his duffle bag and took out a picture of him and Caroline. He smiled at it and tucked it into his bag once more and looked around. He saw that there was a couple who had been talking and then one of them pulled out a blood bag and began to drink from it.
He had figured out in the day he was a way that the world had been littered with the supernatural and human conversion. The president was even a supernatural, but not many liked him and not because he was supernatural. He was just bringing the country down. Lots of people gave him looks and he suspected that they where supernaturals confused by his smell. Every creature had a specific smell to them and to others he was something else.
He leaned into his chair and grabbed the phone from his bag. When looking on it he found contacts. He found the detective guy, Archies, and Charlie's numbers. He didn’t know the detective guy so he clicked his contact to see what was up. There was nothing on it except for his name.
“Detective Sullivan...Detective Damon Sullivan.” He told himself and backed out. He had gotten a message from Archie and checked it.
’Sorry we missed you man, you probably set it up that way though. Here’s the address for his apartment. Also, you should come back when she turns 16. Its when she matures for a mate. She misses you.’ He looked at the text and smiled.
’Please send any important videos and pictures, per her request and i will.’ He heard his flight and stood up. He gathered his things and tucked his phone into his pocket and walked up the long corridor for his flight and soon into the plane. He had never been on such a big machine before so everything from there on out was new to him. He traveled multiple states before he ended up in New York and he hadn’t known how beautiful the city would be.
The sky was dark but the city was bright and people had walked all around him. He smiled as he walked around and tried not to show how excited he was with being in what people called ‘The big apple.’ He watched as others would hang onto others when coming out of clubs and would dance on the sidewalk.
“Hey! You! Tall guy!” He heard a feminine voice call over to him and he turned his head. He looked at the woman that called him and she beckoned her finger for him and he looked around before crossing the street to the woman. This would be his first encounter in the city and he gave her a polite smile.
“Hello miss. Is there a problem?” He asked and she looked him up and down. He watched as she circled him around with a cigarette in her hand. He looked at it and twisted his mouth.
“Now I’ve been on these streets for about twenty years and I’ve never seen you around. What’s your name?” She asked and he smiled more.
“My name is Destroyer. Your's ma’am?” He asked and she giggled.
“No ma’am sweetheart. I see the sweet boy though. The names Clara. Now tell me if my nose is lying, but...you smell something I’ve never smelt before.” He took a whiff of her and she was a cat...more like a familiar than just a normal cat.
“I’m not. I’m a…” He stopped himself. He remembered that he had to keep what he was a secret. It would alarm some people so he decided not to say.
“I’m just something else. Oh...was there something you wanted..uh Clara?” He asked and she touched his arm.
“I actually just wanted to know...let’s just talk. Let me invite you into my shop.” She begged him to follow her as she walked away from him and dropped her cigarette. As he followed her he looked up at the sky. He tilted his head as he saw blue streaks go into the sky.
“May I ask what those are?” He asked her and she laughed.
“What do you mean?”
“Those blue lights. In the sky. What are those?” She turned herself around and eyed him once more.
“Where have you been for the last...Honey those are the lights for the twin towers...The Phantom towers.” He was confused but just nodded.
“Some asshole...or assholes hijacked some planes and...okay sweetheart. Where exactly were you before you came here?” She asked him and kept walking to wherever she was leading him.
“Well, I was living with my best friend and his mate and their pack. Also their daughter for the past...long years. And before that, I was...well. Archie calls it being held as a slave and I guess that’s an appropriate answer.” The woman walked into a small space in a building and held the door open for him. When they walked in the place smelled like cigars and wine.
“Sit. Now let me get this right….You were a slave?” He looked down at his hands and glanced back at her who was now sitting right in front of him.
“Oh….i’m not sure if I should tell you. I’m supposed to meet a friend...or a friend of a friend so I can get settled in the city.”
“Yes Yes...but now I’m interested in you, baby. So..get to talking. Beginning.” She told him he nodded as a cup of tea appeared in front of him.
Destroyer had spent the entire night with the woman named Clara. It was mainly talking about himself and what he has been through and she found it intriguing. The current story was about how he was going to visit Caroline every holiday and weekend. His eyes lit up like Christmas in new york and he was laying down on her long couch and his head was on her lap. Per her request.
“Oh lord darling. If you would have stayed any longer you would have been...in some trouble. I don't think it's a good idea to do that.”
“Do what? See her each year she gets older! Every holiday to see her smile and happy! It’s the best thing ever!” He sat up and brushed his now braided hair to the side.
“Don’t you realize? If you see her on every important day of the year you won’t be able to come back to new york and you might actually feel obliged to stay. That’s going to be bad because she has six more years till shes age of consent AND matured for a mate. Along with the fact that you’re going to STAY when she turns sixteen...just because shes age of consent doesn’t mean you can actually stay with her. Your older than most people in this city and when an adult mixes with a minor it is NOT good sweety...My suggestion is to stay away from her until she’s eighteen. She’ll be matured for you emotionally and physically. Just my opinion though.” He watched as she told him her thoughts. His eyes dropped and he messed with his hands.
“I...i guess it makes sense...But what if-” “It’s better to discover yourself before you go back to that family...or to her or anyone related to her for that fact. It won’t hurt.” She told him and he grew even sadder. She raised his head with her hand and sweetly smiled at him.
“Don’t feel sad, love. I can teach you...and I can teach you how to be with her. You know...teach you how to make sure your feelings are true and NOT just this mate thing. That apparently won’t affect you as much as regular wolves...as I’ve...heard. You know?” He nodded solemnly and turned his head away. He picked at the small couch and heard her sigh.
“I didn’t expect to...go through this. Is it okay to see the messages he’s going to send me of Caroline? She’s a really great kid. I want to be able to see her accomplishments.” He asked her and she nodded.
“Just don’t speak to them and all that. I’ll help you, darling.” He stood up and looked out her small window. Turned out she ran some type of witch shop for witches. He heard her bracelet jingle as she got up and walked towards him and placed her hands onto his shoulders. He felt her hands travel down his arms and then around his waist.
“It’s a good choice. I can help you with everything, sweetheart.” He froze up and moved her hands off of him.
“I...what are you doing?” He asked and he pushed his hair behind his ear.
“I said I would help you with what you need to know. Including ever intimate thing. It will be okay. I promise.” She told him and he stepped back just a bit.
“I...but I thought I was supposed to wait for her? Would it be special for me..and her? Is that wrong?” He asked and she shook her head.
“You want everything to be special with her. You want her to feel special when the time comes. You don’t want to be immature to everything. So darling...let me.” She held onto his hand and slowly moved her hand to the back of his shoulder. He tried to go through the thought process, but she kept distracting him with either her hands or her voice. She guided her lips to his neck and as much as he felt she was wrong he felt as if he couldn’t deny her because she was right? He just closed his eyes and hoped it was the right choice.
“Yeah, he’s not here. You sure he should’ve came man?” The male on the other side of the phone was talking to Archie. It was the detective that Destroyer was supposed to meet a couple of days ago when he went to New York.
“Damn, I'm sorry man. I don’t understand what happened. I mean he should have been there by now. I know he’s alright. So I’m not sure what happened.” Archie sifted through his office for some papers and dropped into his chair giving up for a moment.
“Yeah. I’ll let you know if he shows up. Gotta go. Case.” Damon said through the phone and hung up, leaving Archie not able to say bye and him frustrated. His lifted his head and walked to the door and opened it to watch Caroline fall on the ground.
“Sweetheart?” He asked and she quickly got herself up.
“I...i was just wondering if Destroyer said anything! You didn’t tell me so I don’t know…” She mumbled and he knelt in front of her.
“Listen to sweetheart. Let's let him settle down and hell call or text soon enough. It takes a while okay?” He told her and she nodded. For the past week that he was gone, she hasn’t exited the house. She stayed either jus inside or couped up on her room. She would watch tv or sleep without Destroyer.
He sent her off to her mother and looked at his phone. The last text message was the one he sent out about his friend's address. He watched as she walked down the stairs to her mother who was outside down in the garden.
“Hey, where are you? Damon hasn’t gotten anything from you and you haven’t texted me back. Are you okay? What’s going on?” He texted him and chewed his lip. He watched as the icon showed sent, but not delivered. He dropped his phone on his desk and leaned back, hoping that he was okay.
Weeks went by and nothing. Soon months and then years without anything. Destroyer had not come to visit, he hasn’t texted or called or even shown some type of recognition he was okay or alive. It took Caroline four years to finally replace a good friend that respected her.
On her sixteenth birthday, she was told that there was a possibility that Destroyer would come back and her friendship or love or whatever she had never faded until he never showed up to wish her a happy birthday like he said he would. She then forced herself to forget about him. When she knew she wished he came for her rescue.
