Destroyer
Chapter 9

“You can’t! You can’t leave! Why?! How long? Where?” Destroyer was being bombarded with questions as he walked to his room. She only heard her father say he was leaving. He tried not to answer her, but her questions were getting to his head. He didn’t know where he was going. He knew of nobody and he needed to be as far away from her as possible.

“I have to.” He told her as he went to his room and into his closet. He could hear the hurt in her voice. She never made friends easily due to her female Alpha-ness and only a few tolerated her and Destroyer was one of them. He sighed as he grabbed whatever duffle bag he hand and threw it on his bed.

“No. You don’t. Daddy says you have to leave. Tell me why. As your best friend, I demand to know why!” She stomped her foot on the ground and he sighed softly. He couldn’t tell her, he promised he wouldn’t tell her until the time would come to when she would need him. He gathered as much stuff as he could get into his bag. He remembered that Archie would set him up with a friend in the city, some top detective werewolf that would take him in and help him out. He would also set him up with...basic things.

“I do. I can’t tell you. Even if im...our friend I cant. Go.” He pressed his hand onto her back and pushed herself out of his room. She was left angry and stomped all the way to her parent's room. She knocked on it softly and waited for her parent's answer and stood there until she knocked again.

“Yes? Baby, what’s wrong?” Archie opened the door and walked out. He looked on her face and knew that she wasn’t happy about Destroyer.

“Why are you making him leave? What did he do wrong? He can fix whatever he did wrong, you don’t have to make him move away.” She furrowed her brows and crossed her arms. He tried to avoid her since she heard them from the doorway and dreaded the exact day.

“It’s not as much as me telling him to go, as much as it is that he has to go.” She told him and she questioned his logic. She blew her cheeks up and crossed her arms.

“You’re lying to me. You know that he’s my only friend and you’re taking him away from me. If he leaves now he’ll miss everything!” She told him and kept herself from burst out crying out of anger.

“Why does he have to leave. He’s my friend. He’s your friend and you are just letting him leave. Where? Why? When is he going to come back?” She asked him and he shrugged. He didn’t know what to say to her other than the truth and he couldn’t.

“There are things that a ten-year-old can and can’t know and should or shouldn’t know. I can’t tell you. And you shouldn’t know. He’s going to leave in the afternoon so I suggest you...say goodbye or something.” he placed his palms on her shoulders and she yanked herself away from him.

“She’s going to hate for me..” He told himself before leaning into his room door and watching her storm off. She traveled down the stairs and out of the house. She walked off away from the house with her arms crossed.

“Well look...it’s the so-called Luna over there.” She heard someone say something and it was a group of others some way from her. She ignored their comment and stuck her face up and walked in the other direction.

“Hey! You!” She clenched her teeth and groaned.“I have a question.” It was a red-haired boy with freckles and he was her age. She remembered seeing him around a few times and never talked to him. At school, he would always be around a lot of people.

“Why is your only best friend a grown up? Don’t you have normal friends?” She sucked in a breath of air. She was getting sick and tired of the comments about her best friend being Destroyer and was ready to punch someone. Especially after getting news that he was leaving and if he was leaving then her only friend would be gone and she would be alone.

“He is a normal friend and has a better friend than anyone I know. You should all just leave me alone me and my friend and worry about your own.” She Huffed air through her nose and crossed her arms keeping her stance up. The other boys and females behind him had all hissed at what she said, but in a good way saying what she said to him was funny.

“Isn’t it weird? He’s like...more than 50.”

“Yeah. And so is your mom.” The red-headed boy widened his eyes and stepped back for a moment.

“And you know what. You can’t do anything about what I say because I’m better than you because I have a true friend instead of puppies that follow me around 24/7.” She spat at them, dug her heels into the ground and turned herself around to go back home. She felt bad that her only friend was a grown man over the age of 50.

She remembered the few times she did try to make friends and she ended up pushing them away. She would talk so much about Destroyer, or she would not like how they look and the face she couldn’t communicate well with others. SHe ran back to her house and ran up to Destroyers room. When she poked her head inside the room was slightly empty. Her eyes widened and scrambled to her parent's room.

“Mommy? Mommy!” She yelled out and Charlie rushed out of the room.

“Yes? Baby, what’s wrong with what happened?” She asked and placed her hands on her shoulders.

“Where is he?! His room is clear and he’s not in the living room or outside where is he?” She begged and Charlie sighed dropping her head.

“Goodness child. Gave me a heart attack...he’s in your father’s office.” Caroline tore herself away from her mother’s hands and ran to her father office. SHe barged through the room to see Archie handing Destroyer some things.

“You can call me, or us anytime and- Caroline?” He asked and Destroyer glanced at her and her face was red when she looked at the both of them. She walked up to Destroyer and punched him in the leg along with one kick. He flinched a little bit.

“That’s for leaving in the first place!” She stated to him and then wrapped her arms around him. She wasn’t crying yet, but he knew she would. He placed his hand on her back and she stared at her dad.

“I don’t like you for not making him stay. He has to stay.” She blew through her nose and looked back at Destroyer.

“You’re gonna call right? You’re going to call me when you get there or wherever you’re going and then will you come to visit? You have to come to visit please?” She begged him and he nodded towards her. He wanted to drop his bag and not leave her as he heard her heart waver.

“Of course, I will call. You will have to send me videos of your recitals also and pictures of your first days of school…” He told her and she smiled wide. She dug her face into his pant leg and nodded.

“But do you have to go now? Can you stay for the whole day? I don’t want you to go…” She begged him and then looked at her father. She had pleading eyes and just stared at him point blank and kept herself quiet.

“Please?” She finally said something and Archie sighed.

“Yes, he can sweetheart.” She grabbed onto him and tried to pull him out of the office. He looked at Archie with slight worry and he gave him a nod. He sighed as she dragged him outside of the house and folded her arms in front of him.

“We can go to the park and then get ice cream and I have to make your last day great!” She told him and he nodded.

“I will be leaving at night, so in some hours. Anything you want.” He told her and she nodded. She looked down at her shoes and kicked the ground for a moment before she started to cry. She hid her tears behind her hair and he got down on one knee to her. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly. She did the same and cried into his arms.

“I don’t understand...can you at least visit on holidays? Come on my birthday! And if I get friends you’ll meet them too!” She told him and he nodded.

“Of course. I’ll only come on holidays and special days okay?” He told her and she nodded. He wiped her tears away and stood up.

“Now let’s go to the ice cream place.” She smiled and held onto his hand and began to walk to the ice cream parlor. When they walked into the parlor all the customers and the cashier waved at the both of them. She pulled him to their table and looked through the specials menu.

“We should get something big. We can get a float! Two floats.” She pointed to one and nodded.

“Your favorite is the orange one. I remember!” She got up from the table.

“I’ll go get them both while you wait and sit here!” She told him and ran up to the cash register.

“Oh my god, he is like...super sexy. I heard he doesn’t have a mate since he’s...well you know, a hellhound and he’s a rare one.” Caroline tilted her head behind her towards a small ground of teenage females.

“I know right? Wait. What am I saying? We have mates or we will have mates when we replace them so you guys have to stop.” One of the girls pushed the shoulder of the girl who made the sexy comment.

“Oh please. It won’t hurt to admire. I did hear that he’s never..you know did it with anyone here.” Caroline furrowed her brows and walked to the table to them.

“Why are you talking about him like that?” SHe asked them and they turned their head. They glanced around and looked at each other.

“What do you mean? Destroyer?” They asked and she nodded.

“He’s my best friend and it’s weird that you talk about him like that. Why?” She asked and one of the girls giggled.

“Well it’s what...teenagers do? We see someone like him and you just talk about him.”

“Is that good?” She asked and tilted her head. They didn’t exactly know what to say to a ten-year-old, but it’s not like they could lie.

“I guess? Its stuff we say when we like a person. Naturally.” They said and she nodded. Caroline then looked at Destroyer who was laying his head down and then walking to the cashier to get their treats. She had gotten their flowers and placed them on the table.

“Thank you.” He told her and she smiled as she opened her straw and drank. She eyed him for a little bit and stopped.

“Destroyer?” She asked and his eyes lifted from his drink.

“Yes?” He answered and continued shipping.

“You’re sexy.” Once she said that he inhaled the drink and began to cough almost dropping his drink. Caroline leaned back and watched as he struggled to breathe.

“What?”

“You can’t say that. Especially about me. Nope. No. That’s not a word you should use.” He told her and gathered himself. She only shrugged and went on with her treat. He stared at her for a moment and sighed to himself.

For the rest of the day, they went on to do what she wanted. He only admired her will to stay positive that he would stay if she tried hard enough. They went to the park, he let her ride his back to play airplane for a while and before she knew it was dark.

They spent some of the night watching their favorite shows and movies and she ended up falling asleep against him. The movie credits where rolling when her head was on his lap and she was holding onto him.

He picked her up and took her to bed. The more he would see her the more he hurt and the more he knew that she would be the one hurting if he would visit every holiday or every birthday. He was supposed to meet Archie and Charlie to leave, but instead, he grabbed his things and decided to leave unnoticed.

He looked at the phone he was given and placed it inside the bag and shifted. Leaving his home seemed like the worst thing in the world. But he had to do it, for her at least.
