Evil Angels -
Chapter 11
Emma’s POV
It has been a slow day at the store. Most of my shift has just been sweeping up and organizing everything. Andy is home sick so it was just me for the rest of the night until nine. I am not expecting any customers though because most of this town goes to sleep at seven. The ring of the doorbell broke me out of my thoughts and caused me to turn my head towards the door. There stood Mr. Brown with his normal angry frown plastered on his face.
I sighed and looked up at the clock.
Shit… we don’t close for twenty more minutes. I can’t use that excuse to get him out of here this time.
He grumbled, “Are you just going to stand there like a statue for the rest of the night? Or are you going to help me replace the canned tuna?”
He was normally rude like this when he came in.
I gave a fake smile and walked around the counter, “Good evening, Mr. Brown. It is over on aisle five. Would you like me to get it for you?”
He grunted, “Do you think I can’t do it? The nerve of some people. Always assuming since I am old I can’t do anything.”
He then shuffled off to the aisle.
Well he is taken care of for a few minutes. Maybe I will lock up the back then close up early after he is done.
I walked into the back room locking up the door then turned off the lights and made my way back to the front. Out of nowhere, I heard the dropping of cans onto the ground.
Ugh, Mr. Brown, why didn’t you let me get those for you. Now, I have a mess to clean.
Then, I stopped myself when I heard his voice.
“Are you death?”
What is he talking about?
I was about to walk again but a different voice halted my movements.
“No, sir. I am not death. I am here to guide your soul. Everything is going to be okay.”
I heard Mr. Brown’s voice again but he sounded so broken, “No it’s not. I am going to hell.”
The other voice was calming, “I can assure you, you are not going to hell. You were a kind man and a brave young soldier once. Even if old age has made you a little grumpy.”
Mr. Brown let out a quiet laugh, “Yeah but I sure was stupid when I was young.”
I quietly walked closer to the aisle and peered around the corner. There, Mr. Brown was laying on the ground with a girl, facing away from me, kneeling next to him.
Is that the girl from the cafe?
She smiled, “Thank you sir. Goodbye.”
Mr. Brown’s eyes closed and a faint glow formed around him. The glow lifted, floating into the roof and disappeared from my eyesight.
The girl stood, looking up at the ceiling with a smile. Suddenly, two big wigs and horns appeared on her body. She turned towards me as I let out a gasp.
What the hell?!?!
Her red eyes connected with me, “Oh shit…”
I felt dizzy and my vision got spotty. Then, my whole world went black.
