Chapter 12

Farren’s POV

“You got married?!” Max asked loudly, and his sweet and smooth voice echoed around. the vast spacé.

The sudden outburst caught the attention of a few people nearby, but they quickly resumed their activities. Jasmine, on the other hand, couldn’t help but mirror my own confusion.

“Why are you so surprised?” Jasmine asked, echoing my thoughts.

Max blinked rapidly, clearly taken aback. “Uh, yeah. Sorry about that. I… I tend to overreact,” he admitted, scratching his head sheepishly.

“But you’re usually the most composed person I know,” Jasmine remarked, puzzled.

“Maybe all this traveling has thrown me off balance,” Max pondered. He turned towards me, a grin on his face. “Apologies if I startled you.”

“No worries,” I replied. “I’m sorry for not being more responsive. I’m Farren. Nice to meet you.”

He nodded and pursed his l*ps, his gaze shifting towards the ring on my finger. When his eyes returned to my face, he inquired, “So, you’re really married?”

“Yes, I am,” I confirmed.

Jasmine chimed in from the side, “It’s strange. Why do you seem so bothered now that ‘My Farren‘ is married? Do you have feelings for her or something?”

Max stumbled over his words, flustered. “N–No, it’s not like that. Well, you used to tell me stories about Farren, and you never mentioned that she got married.”

“Oh, right. That does make sense,” Jasmine chuckled, agreeing. She tapped my shoulder and said, “I always talk about you to my brother. So, he must be really shocked that I forgot to mention that my dearest friend is married.”

If that’s the case, then it’s all sorted out.

“Anyway, you should head home and get some rest,” Jasmine suggested.

“Here’s the key,” the attractive Max handed me the car key.

I took the key and replied, “Thanks. I’ll be sure to return it once my car is fixed.”

“No need to rush,” Max reassured. “Luckily, I have two cars, so feel free to use mine. And if anything goes wrong, you can reach out to me.” He took out his phone and asked, “Can you give me your number?”

Since he was lending me his car, I didn’t see any issue with sharing my number. I gave it to him, making sure to remember it this time.

“Okay. Saved,” Max said, putting his phone back in his pocket. “Contact me if any. problems arise.”

“Sure. Thanks a bunch.”

I said goodbye to Jasmine and Max. I felt a bit guilty that Max had to be rude to Jasmine’s car because of me. But I’m really fortunate to have such a caring friend.

I managed to make it back home without any difficulties using Max’s car. “I really hope Father won’t stoop to such a low level again,” I whispered to myself.

I called the police, and they assured me that they would apprehend the culprit.

However, the following morning, I discovered a suspicious letter on my office desk. Once again, the sender’s identity was concealed. As I opened the letter, I found it, contained only a few brief words.

[“Even if you involve the police, I won’t stop.”

Reading the threat, I started to wonder if this was really the work of my father.

He’s completely unhinged and wicked! He’s also a heartless individual who would shamelessly show up at his own daughter’s workplace to demand his share of the inheritance from Grandpa.

But even if he’s fallen back into his old habit of using dr*gs, could he really orchestrate something as intricate as this?

Honestly, I have to admit that my father is simply too foolish. He wouldn’t care if he was caught on CCTV while vandalizing my car. If he was the one who sent me the package and this letter, he wouldn’t bother concealing his identity.

“Then, it might not be him,‘ I realized.

Who could it be, then?

The clock struck 6pm, and everyone left the office. I decided to be the last one to go. home. Jasmine tried to convince me to come with her because she was worried about. me, but I declined, assuring her that I would be fine.

Once everyone had almost left, I finally walked out of the office. As soon as I stepped outside, I could feel someone’s gaze on me. Ignoring it, I continued walking until I reached the parking lot.

When I stopped in my tracks, I sensed the person behind me also pausing. I didn’t bother turning around because I already knew someone was there. But this time, it was less frightening than before.

All I wanted was to deal with this situation and move on. So, after a brief pause, I suddenly started running. I could feel the pursuer chasing after me, so I quickly changed direction and hid myself.

Now, it seemed like the roles were reversed. I became the one stalking that

person.

From my hiding spot, I patiently waited. I could hear faint footsteps approaching. Slowly, I emerged from the darkness and cautiously peeked out.

Under the bright light, I spotted a suspicious–looking man wandering around the parking lot. He had a hat on, making it impossible for me to recognize him. One thing was clear, though: he definitely wasn’t my father.

I made sure to stay hidden as the man glanced around. Then, he made his way towards the car that was lent to me by Jasmine’s brother.

To my surprise, he pulled out a can of spray paint from his pocket.

So, he was the one responsible for vandalizing and damaging my car. I see.

Anger surged within me, and I made up my mind to handle the situation myself.

Before the man could vandalize the car again, I swiftly dashed toward him, grabbed his arm, twisted it behind his back, and pressed him against the car as if I were arresting him.

“Ouch!” he cried out in pain.

Standing behind him, I tightened my grip on his arm and whispered, “Who are you?

He didn’t respond, only flinched in pain.

I took off his cap and stole a quick glance at his face. Our eyes locked, and I was

completely taken aback.

“Eugene?” I exclaimed in disbelief.

Eugene, the janitor in our office. That’s why I was so shocked to discover him as the culprit. I’ve always been kind to him!

Before I could question him about his actions, Eugene forcefully pushed me away.

I stumbled and collided with the car behind me. “Ouch!” My right side hit the side mirror.

The impact triggered the car alarm system, and it blared loudly.

Wee woo. Wee woo.

As I looked up, Eugene was already charging towards me, his right arm swinging in a powerful roundhouse strike.

Now that he’s been caught, he’s resorting to violence.

“As if I will let him.”

As soon as he launched his attack, I swiftly sidestepped his b*dy and ducked under his arm before bouncing back up and spinning around.

He abruptly halted on rigid legs and swiftly turned towards me. In a state of panic, he charged at me once more, attempting the same move. His right arm swung towards. me, but I skillfully sidestepped and ducked, this time delivering a powerful elbow strike to his side as I spun beneath his arm.

He rebounded off his locked knees and immediately came charging back at me. I evaded his attack once again, feeling the rush of air as his massive fist narrowly missed. my head by an inch.

As I rose to my feet and turned around, I unleashed all my strength, starting from my toes and surging upwards. My fist collided with his ear, causing him to stagger backward, and I swiftly followed up with a colossal right hook to his jaw.

“Ack!”

After being hit, he stumbled back, giving me the perfect opportunity to utilize the self- defense techniques I had honed over the years. I swiftly grabbed his groin and positioned my feet on the back of his, effortlessly lifting him off the ground and forcefully slamming him down.

“Ouch!” he groaned in agony.

I went on his top and grabbed his collar.

Eugene winced in pain, unable to retaliate, and begged, “Please, spare me! I didn’t intend to do it!”

“Who sent you?” I demanded. “Who dared to send you to stalk and mess with me?!”
