Suri Nightingale

I had a weird dream. I dreamt that I was in the woods and it was dark, but the crazy part about it was that I could still see almost everything. My eyes... they had become somewhat like I had night vision. But it wasn't just that. It was also that I could hear and smell everything around me a thousand times clearer and better. It's like I have inherited a superpower.

Though it wasn't all good. What started off as something interesting became terrifying when I realized what I had become. I am no longer human.

I was an animal.

I woke up abruptly at that thought and realization as a scream erupted from my lungs. My heart was racing inside my chest and I was sweating like crazy. "Suri!"

Three different voices greeted me and though there was barely any sunlight peeking through the curtains, it was like a spotlight on them.

Atlas, Wes, and Dev. My boys.

"Am I... dead?" I asked as I blinked at them confused.

Did I die and go to whatever place it is that would have all three of them hovering over me with widened eyes and worried looks? To a place where finally we could all be together without any problems and worries? "No, baby, you're still here with us." Atlas responded as he gave me a heartwarming smile and he took my hand, lacing it with his.

The touch felt nice, but it felt extra sensitive that I accidentally pulled my hand away from him, staring and touching it as if it wasn't my own.

What the fuck is going on?

"What is it, angel? What are you feeling?" Wes looked at me with worry in his eyes as he sat at the edge of my bed and rubbed my leg with a blanket on it.

"I... I don't know, really. I feel fine. o wait, actually, something is different. It's like I'm a different person. I think it's related to the weird dream I had..." I told them as a shiver ran down my spine when I remembered it.

"What dream?" Dev asked as he squeezed my hand on the other side, and he turned to me with his brows furrowed as if looking at me pained him.

There was also restlessness in his eyes. Actually, looking at them now, they all did.

Wait a second...

I looked around and suddenly realized where I was.

In my room.

On my bed.

Back at Los Altos.

How the hell did I get here?

The last thing I remember was talking with my mom, rushing to get to Ohio by bus to meet up with Polly and the other girls and-

Oh, shoot! Polly! I never made it to The Big Bang Club!

"Suri, what are you doing?" Atlas asked, bewildered.

"My phone! Where's my phone?!" I panicked, lifting up the blanket and pillows to check if it had somehow gotten stuck in between one of them.

It has to be here somewhere! I couldn't have lost it! Or... did I?

I can barely remember what happened after I got off the bus that night, so how would I be sure I didn't leave it somewhere else?

Damn it.

"Um, I hate to break it to you, but your phone is dead. You broke it when you accidentally stepped on it, probably when you shi- Ouch! What the hell, Dev?!" Wes gave back the same death glare Dev was giving to him before a second later his expression changed into understanding and he quickly pursed his lips.

"What? What do you mean I broke it? When? Finish what you were saying, Wes." I turned to him with a distressed look.

Wes just glanced at his brothers as if asking for confirmation whether or not he should continue what he was saying. When he bit his lip and gave me a frown, I knew he wasn't going to finish it.

"Polly and your friends are fine. We bumped into them at the airport when you were knocked out and we said that there was a family emergency and you needed to go home." Atlas then explained and I nodded my head in thought.

It was good to know I didn't have to worry about that and just as I let out a sigh, that's when a scary realization dawned on me.

Holy shit.

The brothers and what I found out about them.

The memory I remembered of that night when I watched that video.

It was very much real.

"You guys are wolves," I blurted out all of a sudden and all three of them stared at me with a taken aback look.

I was thinking they would deny it or say something to change the topic, but I was wrong.

"We are," Atlas spoke and the two nodded their heads.

Uh.... what the fuck? Now what am I supposed to answer to that?

"Please don't freak out," Dev added.

"I'm not," I said and that made them look even more perplexed like I had just given them the world's most complicated math equation.

"Honestly, I left because I was just a little hurt that you guys didn't think you could tell me and the fact that I just... needed time to process it all alone. I know you had your reasons, but I wish you would have trusted me and trusted that whatever it is you guys were, I would have stayed. My love for the three of you wouldn't ever change even if you had told me you were aliens." I confessed to them right before furrowing my brows. "Wait, you're not aliens, right? We're not actually in some kind of spaceship made to look like your place in Los Altos?"

Wes let out a hearty chuckle. "No, angel, you're on Planet Earth. Though I can't deny you'd be the hottest alien if that were the case."

"Wes!" Atlas and Dev shouted at him and then he realized he had just said something it seems he shouldn't have.

And as for me, it didn't take me too long to realize what he meant.

And what he meant was that I was one of them.

Not an alien, but a wolf.

I don't know how long I was just staring at nothing with my mouth wide open and my eyes blinking continuously, but it must have been a while because Atlas was the one that pulled me out of it.

"Please say something..." He said softly and I could tell they were all worried, but I didn't know what to say. Hell, I barely even understood what was happening!

"H-how... is... that... even... possible..." I said with my heart starting to pick up its pace and my breath has turned into pants.

"We had no idea you were going to turn into one of us, Suri." Dev said as he squeezed my hand again, but that still doesn't explain anything.

"But, what... What does one of you guys even mean?" I glanced at each one of them with a cautious and wary look.

"Suri, what do you know about wolves?" Wes asked and I shrugged my shoulders.

"I don't know. Barely anything. Just stuff I saw from movies or read from books. They're like gigantic dogs but with extra strength and speed and everything. They're like vampires' worst enemy, always fighting over territory. I think they can also talk to each other in their heads. Ah, and they also rip through clothes which, in my humble opinion, is very wasteful, and oh my god, it all makes sense now."

The second it hit me, it was like some sort of revelation.

"Always shirtless. Always running in the woods. Always like you guys are communicating in your heads. Always sniffing the air for something. Always eating like you're a pack of hungry wolves. Sweet baby Jesus, and your name is literally Wolfe. I'm punching myself for not realizing this any sooner."

"Baby, we've been with humans for years and nobody's ever figured it out." Atlas exclaimed and he had a point.

"So... I'm really one of you guys? I can shift into a wolf? But don't wolves stand on all fours? I could have sworn I was as tall as a tree that night..." My mind boggled as I thought about that time.

"You're a Lycan," Dev said and I blinked at him.

A what?

"You mean... Underworld: Rise of the Lycans? That kind of Lycan?" I asked and these assholes just chuckled at me.

"What? Give me a break! There's not really a lot of material I can learn from!" I said in defense and it was their smiles and the twinkle in their eyes that tugged at my heart.

God, I missed this. I missed seeing them and being so close to them. I know now that I never wanted to be away from them ever again. Those three days were enough. Wolf or not, they're my family as I am theirs.

Now I just need to figure out how my life would be like now that I'm... well, not entirely just human.

"Something like that, but not entirely." Dev said.

"And you won't need any other material when you've got us. We'll teach you, angel. We'll teach you everything you need to know." Wes said as he rubbed my leg again and I felt warm inside.

Atlas then tightened his grip on my hand. "We'll be here every step of the way, baby. All three of us as well as Keith."

Keith! Oh, I missed him, too, and I'm so glad that we were all together again.

"Thank you, guys. I really wouldn't know where I'd be without you all."

"Believe us, we wouldn't know where we would be without you either, sunshine." Dev shot me a wink and I think I just melted into a puddle.

Out of nowhere, I heard a low grumble from inside me and I wasn't sure if it was my chest or my stomach, but I suddenly felt queasy.

I had no idea what was going on since I've never felt anything like this. All of a sudden, there was a voice that I knew was not my own, pop up in my head.

"Suri," it said with a calming voice but the sudden interruption in my head completely caught me off guard.

"What the fuck?!" I suddenly squealed and all three brothers stood up, looked around as if they were trying to replace a perpetrator, but the thing is, I don't think they can catch the one in my head. "Who- who are you?! Why- how are you inside my head?!" I shouted in panic and it's like the boys realized and knew what was going on because they relaxed right after. "Guys, what is that?! Why is there someone speaking in my head?!" I asked them in panic and they told me that it was alright.

"Don't worry. That's just your wolf." Wes explained and I stared at him like he was joking.

"My what?! It's inside me?! Is that... some kind of s****l reference?"

They all burst out into laughter and my cheeks flushed red.

"No, baby, it is what you think it is. Your wolf and you can communicate inside your head. Try it. Think of it inside your head. Ask her what her name is," Atlas explained. I was skeptical at first, but I figured, what the hell?

So I closed my eyes and focused on talking to myself, but not really myself. Let's just say it was weird as f u c k.

"What... is your name?" I managed to ask, using as much of my brain as I could to 'channel' it.

I didn't think it would work, until...

"My name is Aurora. It is lovely to finally meet you after being asleep for so long, Suri."

Oh. My. God.

I really do have a wolf.
