Forsaken betrayal -
Chapter 22
Episode 22
Gealic watched as Lennox stormed out of the room, only running after him when she heard the door click shut.
"Lennox! Lennox!" She turned the knob, trying to open the door. "Lennox you can't lock me in here, I didn't kill anyone." Tears escaped her eyes in trickles.
"Let me out please!" She yelled banging at the door. "Let me out, I have to tell you something."
She was better off as an impostor than a murderer. Gealic would rather face Lennox's wrath than be called a murderer.
"Lennox please I have something to tell you, please let me out of here. I did not kill anyone, I really did not kill anyone, Lennox!" She kept banging the door till her hands went sore and even still, she was determined to get Lennox's attention. She couldn't live like this, she couldn't live as a murderer.
"Lennox!" She screamed, "I hate you. I swear I'll hate you till my last breath. Please Lennox get me out of here. I-i'm not a murderer, I don't have the heart to do it. Lennox! Amelia did it not me."
"I hate you!" She banged the door for the last time, slumping to the ground as exhausting wreaked through her body.
"Mrs Rachel, please tell Lennox to get me out of here, please. Is anyone there?" She begged.
~~~
"I see you're still working with Mrs Rachel." Gealic said as noticed Maggie standing at the door.
"She had to drug Lennox men to get me in here." Maggie smiled, cat-walking further into the room. "I came to see my favourite murderer, how are you holding up in your prison? I heard you came to throw a tantrum at father's house, how cocky."
"You can take my place here, I know how wanton you are for this prison." Gealic seethed.
"You're an horrible person, you know? Killing people, taking people's husband's, stealing your mother's inheritance." She chuckled. "You're the biggest bitch."
"I see you know more about the story than I do, why don't you tell me more?"
"What's you've done is more than enough for the world to hate you, you killed my brother!"
"Oh spare me that bullshit, you don't hate me because of that, you barely even remember the boy."
"You feel no remorse, do you?"
"You've never had a reason to hate me. You only projected our parents' anger on me."
"You took the person I loved!"
"If you fought for him, you would have had him." Gealic yelled. "You were weak, you lost to me."
"Bastard! I could never win, you don't fight fair."
"It's good that you know your place." Gealic sneered, stirring up Maggie's anger. "If you liked him, you would have fought harder for him. I'm pretty sure I liked him first to be able to clinch him." Gealic could cringe later at the absurdity of her words, for now, she wanted to push Maggie into doing something drastic.
"I loved him first! You found out about that and approached him just to spite me. You told me to my face that you had no interest in him but because you didn't want me to have anything, you'll take him. You planned your whole marriage with him, his entire need with Grandfather and you as a... of their bond knowing that grandfather is a godforsaken conservative man."
Gealic gasped in mock surprise, "How pitiful."
"You think I was blind to that? I watched as you took the man I loved-"
"Shush, I'm tired of this story."
"I'll take back what belongs to me." Maggie promised
"Oh, I will hand him over to you with much pleasure. I'll give you a chance to beat me, to win. You want Lennox and I want my freedom. I am tired of him." Gealic proposed. "Like you said, I only wanted him because you did first. Now I'm bored of him."
"You don't mean it."
"I'm Amelia, I don't bluff. Take him."
"What do you want in return?"
"Get me out of here."
"That won't make Lennox fall in love with me, how can I trust that you won't come back?"
"I don't care if you drug him, or tie him down or cast a spell on him. I will not come back, I swear on my life."
A sly smile splayed across Maggie's face, "Consider it done."
~~~
"Mr Len, you have a message from someone, he says it's urgent." Mr. Gu announced as he walked into Lennox's office.
"Let the person in."
"Yes sir," He walked out of the office to invite the stranger in but came back in a minute, delivering another information. "The person said to give you this and watch you read it then go back to him." He delivered the news, pondering on the absurdity of the instruction.
He handed a brown envelope to Lennox who tore it open, pulling out the contents. They were all pictures of Lora and Ryan in a private meeting with someone who looked similar but much older than Lora. In the picture, the other woman was signing a document while Lora was smiling with her husband. In another picture, Lora was dressed in black in a graveyard, however unlike the somber atmosphere, Lora was smiling from ear to ear at the same woman, holding in her hands a document. Another picture was a blurry, zoomed-in photograph of the document in her hands. Another picture was the clear image of Lora's baby drowned in the swimming pool while the last had a maid in their house being handcuffed and taken away.
Alongside the pictures were two other document. One was the frontpage photograph of a newspaper from twenty years ago with a headline circles in red marker: JANE WILLIAMS DROPS OUT OF THE RACE FOR THE POSITION OF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF HER FATHER'S EMPIRE, GIVING UP THE POSITION TO HER YOUNGER SISTER, LORA EVANS. Under the headline, another part circled was the place where Jane mentioned in an interview that she was going out of the country to start up her own business.
The last thing in the envelope was the photocopy of a legally signed document by Lora and Jane. It was a signed agreement to keep Jane's secret in exchange for dropping out of the fight for their father's empire.
Everything began to make sense to Lennox, the gap in Ryan's story, the feeling of guilt that he could not shake off, the absurdity of Ryan's story, it was all a lie. Lora and Ryan had known that Amelia was not their son's killer but they still let her take the fall for it, all to blackmail the real murderer, Lora's sister.
Amelia's family knew she wasn't the murderer. Amelia didn't kill her brother, she was all a victim caught up in a fight for Raymond's inheritance.
"I've messed up again." Lennox could only muttered to himself.
"Mr Len, I have gotten the private investigator you asked for," Lennox looked up as Mr Gu spoke.
"I don't need him anymore," He replied, his words coming out in a rush. "I need to get home, postpone whatever schedule I have today, and inform Alex and Johnson that we will not be meeting as earlier planned. I need to see Amelia." He got up from his seat.
"Sir." Mr Gu called.
"Yes?"
"Mr. Richard called, Miss Amelia is missing."
