The next day, the investigation results came in.

After Sophie joined the company where Charlotte worked, she immediately set her sights on her.

Charlotte's refined style and elegant demeanor made it obvious that she came from a wealthy family.

Playing the victim, Sophie shed a few pitiful tears in front of Charlotte, even going so far as to hire actors to pose as her parents and make a few staged calls. Charlotte, with her kind heart, naturally took care of her. It wasn't until Sophie started sticking close to Charlotte and met Jaziel and Nolan that she realized just how privileged Charlotte's life truly was.

Sophie had only ever seen someone like Jaziel in financial magazines.

And Nolan? He was a famous racing champion in Miami, with posters of him once dominating the city.

Jealousy consumed Sophie. The kind of men she could never dream of reaching were orbiting Charlotte's world.

Her intense resentment overwhelmed her.

Sophie used every excuse to complain to Charlotte, clinging to her and using their connection to ingratiate herself with Jaziel and Nolan.

What Sophie never expected was how easily Jaziel and Nolan fell for her manipulations. They treated her well, even choosing her over Charlotte time and time again.

To prove their love for her, Sophie went to extremes:

She intentionally injured her hand, made dramatic complaints about her life, and deliberately broke Charlotte's trophy. She even planted flowers in their house despite knowing Charlotte was allergic. As someone who had worked as Charlotte's intern, Sophie was well aware of her asthma and pollen allergy.

Her actions were intentional-her malice almost tangible

She hated that Charlotte hadn't died that day.

The restored phone data laid everything bare, including the message Sophie had sent on the day Charlotte left:

"Sorry, but once again, I made Jaziel and Nolan leave you behind. Looking forward to living together as a group of four-take care!*

The words were like a slap in the face. Enraged, Nolan slammed the phone against Sophie's face.

"How dare you talk to her like that?" he snarled through clenched teeth.

"If it weren't for Charlotte, do you really think someone like you would even catch our attention?"

Jaziel leaned back on the sofa, his eyes closed, his lips moving coldly.

"Throw out all of Sophie's belongings. And make sure her family comes here to collect her."

He issued the command without hesitation.

Marcus quickly responded with a crisp "Yes," directing workers to remove Sophie's things

Sophie collapsed onto the floor in despair, her eyes dull and lifeless.

"No... don't move my things!"

Watching the workers carry her belongings out one by one, Sophie scrambled to stop them, throwing herself at the boxes in a panic.

She had only lived in this luxurious house for a few days. Her good life had barely

begun-why was this happening to her?

She fell to the ground, genuine tears streaming down her face.

"It's over... everything's over..."

For the first time, Sophie saw no path forward.

She had clawed her way out of her rural village, managed to join a prestigious design company in Miami, only to fall completely from grace. The past two months felt like a beautiful dream.

But now that she was awake, reality had come crashing down.

She was still the ugly duckling, incapable of ever becoming a swan.
