Forsaking the Years of Longing -
Forsaking Billionaire 82

Daphne stood frozen outside the hall, her mind roaring like thunder.
Her heart trembled violently.
Matthew had come to the church on their wedding anniversary, but it was to pray for Charlotte.
Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, nails digging deep into her palms, almost drawing blood. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the tearing feeling in her heart. Daphne turned away and walked back to the wishing tree where she and Matthew had once made their vows. Now, all she felt was disgust and irony.
In the next moment, she reached out and ripped down the remaining prayer ribbons.
In doing so, she tore away every memory she shared with Matthew!
She shredded the ribbons into pieces and threw them into the air, letting the wind carry them away- An unreliable marriage wasn't worth holding on to; it was better to let it blow away! Daphne descended the steps, one by one, never looking back.
Returning to the villa, she headed straight upstairs.
Just as she was about to enter her room, Charlotte, who was supposedly resting and weak, suddenly appeared.
A mocking smile curled on her lips. "Daphne, did you enjoy your time at the church? I specifically asked Matthew to go and pray for me."
"How did you know I went to the church?" Daphne was shocked, but more than anything, she was confused.
Charlotte stepped closer, her eyes glinting with satisfaction.
"Matthew slept beside me last night. Of course, I know everything about his movements, including the anniversary you two planned." Daphne was stunned, staring at the woman's rosy complexion, disbelief and doubt in her eyes.
"Charlotte, you weren't really poisoned, were you?"
"That's right." Charlotte smirked.
She leaned in close to Daphne's ear, her whisper sharp as a knife:]
"I'm just making sure Matthew's heart drifts away from you, little by little, and closer to me."
Daphne felt a wave of suffocating pain in her chest, anger and despair intertwining.
She could no longer bear it; she pushed Charlotte, trying to escape. But unexpectedly, Charlotte fell to the ground, groaning in pain.
Daphne's eyes widened in shock, and when she turned around, she saw Matthew, dressed in a suit, coming up the stairs just in time to witness the scene. "Charlotte, are you okay?"
"Daphne, how could you be so cruel!"
As he comforted Charlotte, his fierce gaze turned to Daphne, as if he wanted to tear her apart.
Daphne's heart throbbed with pain.
"I..."
Before she could say anything, Matthew was already cradling Charlotte in his arms, as if the woman in his arms was a fragile treasure he feared might break. Watching the scene, Daphne felt as if her heart was being shredded.
She wanted to explain herself, but seeing the triumphant look in Charlotte's eyes, she realized she no longer had the strength to speak.
She turned and walked back to her room, each step heavier than the last.
Behind her, Matthew's warning was like ice piercing her skin:]
"Daphne, if you dare harm Charlotte again, don't blame me for being harsh. There's no need for you to stay in this house any longer!" This house? Who was really the mistress of this house?
Daphne screamed silently in her mind, her eyes filling with tears, but she stubbornly refused to let them fall.
It was only after she shut the door that she finally let herself lean against it, tears soaking her clothes.
The scenes from moments ago replayed in her mind like a slideshow.
Even though she knew she would forget everything in a few days, Matthew's attitude made her want to end things with him once and for all. After a few seconds of hesitation, she suddenly thought of something.
She opened the drawer and began rummaging through her things, gathering everything related to Matthew that connected him to her.
There were souvenirs from their trips, countless photos, and the expensive jewelry Matthew had given her.
Every item she pulled out felt like reopening an old wound, making her relive the pain once more.
Finally, Daphne gathered everything in one place, pulled out a lighter, and set it all ablaze.
