Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared) -
Chapter 607
Jared walked to the door, ready to swing it open.
His hand had already grazed the doorknob.
Agnes' thoughts came to a screeching halt, she had probably never been this nervous.
It felt like she was standing on the edge of a cliff, with one foot already over the line.
The next second, she would plunge into the abyss, breaking every bone in her body.
A battle was raging deep within Agnes' consciousness.
Only one thought kept hammering in her mind stop Jared from opening the door.
He can't open the door!
The door was already ajar.
The next moment, Agnes rushed forward, wrapped her arms around Jared, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed him.
Jared was visibly taken aback, his body going rigid.
His hand stopped in its tracks.
Agnes leaned against the door, slamming it shut.
A sigh of relief escaped her lips as the door closed.
All her attention had been on what lay beyond the door.
She was praying that Nocturne wouldn't catch a glimpse of her.
But now, the atmosphere had done a complete change.
Jared looked at her, a surprised look in his eyes.
Agnes' lips were still pressed against Jared's.
Their bodies were almost pressed together, their breaths mingling.
Jared's fresh scent, mixed with the familiar smell of his regular shower gel.
The familiar aroma left Agnes a little disoriented.
A fire was burning in Jared's usually cold eyes, growing hotter by the second.
Agnes couldn't tell if it was anger or desire.
Agnes froze, letting go of Jared as she leaned back.
But her back was against the door, she had nowhere to run.
Their bodies were still almost pressed together.
Agnes locked eyes with Jared.
His gaze was growing darker by the second.
It seemed like in trying to avoid one problem, she had created an even bigger one.
But given the circumstances, that was the only thing she could do to distract Jared.
Only then could she make him forget about Nocturne outside the door.
But what now?
"Agnes, do you have any idea what you just did?" Jared's voice was cold and hoarse.
Agnes knew her actions must've seemed crazy to Jared.
Thinking about it, she felt kind of silly.
Jared was so smart, even though he was taken aback at the time.
He could easily figure out what was going on when he thought about it later.
Agnes figured she couldn't make her intentions too obvious.
Jared could easily guess that her actions were a desperate attempt to cover up some ulterior motive.
She couldn't let Jared think that.
She had to at least confuse him, so he couldn't guess what she was really thinking.
Agnes gritted her teeth, looking into Jared's eyes, her emotions becoming clearer.
"I know exactly what I'm doing," Agnes said.
With that, Agnes leaned in for another kiss.
This time, it was different from the gentle peck before.
Agnes was passionate, even provocative.
Jared had just stepped out of the shower, his body bare.
Agnes' hand rested on Jared's chest.
She found that Jared's body was warmer than her palm.
But Jared seemed frozen in place.
His gaze was fixed on Agnes' face, his eyes a blur as he took in her deliberately teasing demeanor.
