"Mr. Whitfield, this is none of your business. I got what I needed, so I'm outta here."

Agnes reckoned this was the best timing for her to leave.

Even though she was in disappointment.

If she missed the chance to see Nocturne this time, who knows when would be the next time.

But Agnes had no other choice.

Agnes tried to slip past Jared to make a French exit, but just after two steps, Jared grabbed her arm.

Jared has always been like this. His grip was so tight, it felt like he was crushing her bones.

Agnes was mad, "Jared, have you forgotten that I know Taekwondo? Let go before I hurt you."

Jared didn't even bat an eyelid at Agnes' threat.

Jared said, "You're in such a hurry to get married? Getting Ryder to come home once in these years was hard, but now that you're back, he's back. Did you two plan this all along?" Agnes didn't understand what Jared was blabbering about.

But she knew Jared, if she didn't clear things up, there's no way she could leave.

Jared was always unreasonable. He was getting hitched, but he didn't want her to.

Or maybe what got Jared's goat was that she might get married before him.

Men could be so selfish sometimes.

Even after they broke up, they still wanted the woman to wait for them.

So even though he was about to get hitched, he kept sticking his nose into her business.

Agnes decided not to piss him off, she needed to scram ASAP.

Agnes said, "I don't have any plans to marry anyone for now. Can you let me go now?"

Agnes' voice was full of resignation and compromise.

But to Jared, it seemed like she was just lying.

She clearly wanted to get rid of him ASAP, she didn't even want to argue with him.

There was no room for him in Agnes' heart anymore.

The more Jared thought about it, the more angry he got.

He felt like a volcano on the verge of eruption.

Every time he saw Agnes, there was this bottled-up anger.

Agnes tried to wriggle out, but Jared held on tight, refusing to let go.

Agnes was really steamed. How could Jared be such a jerk?

Just as Agnes was about to fight back, a clear voice came from the direction of the study, "Sir."

Agnes recognized it instantly, it was Nocturne.

Agnes felt despair, oh God, don't be so cruel!

If she showed up in front of Nocturne now, Jared would replace everything out.

Agnes made a snap decision, shoved Jared into the room, and quickly shut the door.

Agnes looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

But Agnes' reaction was so swift, it seemed more like an instinct to Jared.

Agnes was on pins and needles, her fingers were trembling out of fear.

Jared's brows furrowed slightly. He started to wonder, what the heck was wrong with Agnes? It was just a kid's voice, was she really that scared?

There was a knock on the door, a faint, young voice came from outside, "Sir, are you in there?"

Agnes felt like she couldn't hide her fear any longer.

Her heart was pounding, as if it would burst out of her chest any second.
