Alyssa was clearly taken aback.

Her eyes were wide in shock when she saw Agnes. Agnes was pretty used to getting that look.

So, in comparison, Agnes was as cool as a cucumber.

She knew what she was in for before she got here.

For Agnes, this was a mental wrestling match.

But they were nothing in comparison to the possibility of losing Nocturne.

Alyssa seemed to have an inkling of what was going on.

She didn't say a word, just cracked open the door to the study.

"Come on in," Alyssa's voice had settled down.

Jared made his way in and Agnes followed suit.

Tim was busy penning something behind his desk.

There was a stack of papers on his desk, each one was marked with the word "calm."

Looks like Tim was royally ticked off, and he needed to do this to keep his cool.

After Jared made his entrance, Alyssa went over to him, "Jared's back."

Tim didn't even glance up, just kept on writing.

The room was dead silent.

Everyone seemed to be waiting patiently for Tim to finish his calligraphy.

Only when he was done did Tim put down his brush and lift his head.

When he did, he saw Agnes.

But Tim had experienced lots in his life, so his face didn't change when he saw Agnes.

He didn't even bat an eyelid.

He calmly asked, "What's all this about?"

Jared piped up, "I came back today to make an announcement."

Jared paused for a beat.

Tim and Alyssa turned their attention to him.

Jared said in a steady voice, "I've called off the wedding with Valeria."

Jared dropped this bombshell as soon as he got back.

Before Tim could say anything, Alyssa chimed in, "Marriage isn't child's play, you can't just call it off. So many people saw you vanish from the venue yesterday, what do you take Valeria for? Someone you can just play like a toy?"

Jared responded, "I've made it clear to Valeria and she's agreed to call off the engagement."

Alyssa said, "Jared, you can't do this. You can't treat Valeria any way you want just because she loves you. I don't agree to cancel the wedding."

"I've made up my mind." Jared's voice was steadfast.

Everyone in the family knew Jared's character. Once he decided on something, he wouldn't budge.

His words were for notification, not negotiation.

This was the first time Alyssa had ever gone up against Jared.

Tim glanced at Agnes, "So tell me, are you calling off the wedding because of Agnes, or was it because of Sharon's suicide attempt last night?"

Tim's voice was ice cold.

Agnes still remembered him as the kind and gentle figure from four years ago.

But the man before her now was nothing like the old Tim from four years ago.

He commanded respect, his aura was powerful, he had a natural-born leader's charisma that made people hesitant to approach.

Agnes had almost forgotten about that.

Not only was Tim a legend in the business world, but he was also a general who had experienced war and held extensive experience. Jared calmly said, "Because I want to remarry Agnes."

The room went dead silent again, as if time had stopped and the air itself had frozen.
