Eliza tried to lighten the mood, hoping to sidestep the issue.

Amaya, however, was having none of it. "He's always at home; there's no way he has a girlfriend. Definitely not."

Eliza just smiled, opting not to continue the conversation.

Not far off, Faithe and Casper's eyes were glued to Eliza.

"Mr. Casper, do you think she can land the contract?"

Faithe had her doubts about Eliza's abilities. Sure, Eliza had some connections, but the stakes here were much higher than just knowing the right people.

"If she wants that million, she'll move mountains to get it done."

Eliza had a tenacious streak. Casper didn't know why she needed the million, but it seemed urgent.

"But Mr. Casper, with all the competition today, are you sure she can pull it off?"

He was sure. Though Carter had bought the land years ago, it had since been deeded to his son. And his son, David, had once been head over heels for Eliza. The Simmons family adored Eliza. Why wouldn't they reward her with this piece of land to make her happy?

Turning away, Casper headed outside, and Faithe quickly followed.

After some family chit-chat, Amaya called her son over. "David, it's been ages since you and Eliza last caught up. Why don't you two chat? I'll go check on your dad; don't let him get too carried away with the drinks."

Amaya, all smiles, nudged her son to sit beside Eliza.

David felt a mix of helplessness and embarrassment. "Excuse my mom, she's just..."

"David, Amaya told me the land Carter owned has been transferred to you. Is that true?" Eliza's intent was clear.

He thought she might engage in some small talk first. A bit about the past, a bit about the present.

"Are you here today because..."

"Honestly, Welton International is interested in buying that land." She took a deep breath and glanced at the eager businessmen around," know many are eyeing it, but Welton International is willing to pay more. Would you consider it?"

"You're with Welton International now?" He realized Eliza's visit wasn't social; it was all business. "You're here to talk shop?"

"Pretty much." She didn't need to

hide or dress it up. "Welton International wants to set up the largest auction base in Falconfidge, and your land is in a prime spot. So... would you consider it?"

David didn't rush to answer. His eyes lingered on Eliza's delicate and pretty face, and he smiled lightly. "Since Welton International is interested, let's talk."

"Great. Tell me your price. Welton International is serious. We won't let you down if you give us a chance."

David found it hard to say no to Eliza. He figured this was why Welton International had sent her. Savvy businessmen always weigh their options and come prepared. Casper was known for making calculated moves.

"Let's swap numbers," David said, pulling out his phone.

Eliza said. "David, send me the price later. I'll discuss it with Mr. Casper. If he agrees, can we aim to sign the contract within three days?"

"That soon?"

"Well, maybe not." She was indeed a bit too eager. For a deal this big, it was normal to need a few extra days. "David, take your time, no rush."
