His Destructive, Toxic Love -
Chapter 156
This scene was perfectly captured by the man standing outside the door as he peered through the glass into the room. The bag he was gripping crinkled up due to the force of his hold. Casper had come today with the intention of personally telling Eliza that he wanted a divorce. Yet, the scene before him deeply wounded his heart. The first time he felt this way was when Aaron fed her cake, and now, David was offering her peaches. The way she looked at other men was always tender, always gleaming with light. Ridiculous. Casper had been made a fool time and again, and yet he considered letting her off. The paper bag was torn into two, then again into quarters, until it was shredded into pieces. Only then did Casper throw it into the trash can.
He turned around. Pushing open the door to the hospital room again, he walked in. The two were laughing and looked towards the door, their voices coming to an abrupt halt.
"Mr. David. You're here too?" Casper's voice was surprisingly gentle as he extended his hand for a handshake with David. "Here to see Eliza?"
"I heard she was injured, so I came to check on her." David was holding a can of peach preserves. "My mom made some, so I brought them over to indulge Eliza's cravings."
David's face maintained a calm and natural expression. Casper raised an eyebrow, looking towards Eliza lying on the bed, "Oh? Eliza likes peach preserves, does she? Then I'll have my secretary buy some in a bit."
His tone was even, his gaze caring, embodying the perfect boss. Only Eliza could hear the subtext in his words. She nervously looked towards David. "David, I'm fine. You can go home now."
"Alright then." He placed the peach preserves on the nightstand. "Make sure to eat these later. They'll spoil otherwise."
"Okay, will do."
David turned around, addressing Casper, "I'll be leaving then."
"Mr. David, take care."
The door to the hospital room was closed once again. Casper pulled up a chair and sat down in front of the bed.
"You sure have a lot of caring men
around you," he said, picking up the jar of peach preserves and lazi lifting his eyelids to look at Eliza.
"What am I to you?"
"Mr. Casper, is this an interesting question?"
Ha. He might forever be her husband. To hell with it. Who cares anyway?
"I hope Mrs. Welton would behave as a married woman should," he said, scooping up a piece of peach and chewing it. "This old lover's gift is indeed sweet."
"If you have nothing else, please leave. I need to rest."
She was neither in the mood nor had the energy to listen to his sarcasm.
"You are in such a hurry to get rid of me. Is David planning to come back, or is Dr Martin expected?" He scooped another piece of peach into his mouth. "Or do you have another man?"
"Wouldn't you know if I had another man?" Eliza looked at him with an indescribable loathing. "Stop calling me Mrs. Welton. If you truly see me as Mrs. Welton, then please leave and let me rest."
"Alright then." He put down the jar, took a wet wipe to clean his fingertips, and methodically started to unbutton his jacket.
Eliza frowned, "What are you doing?"
"Isn't it time to rest? As a husband, I have the duty to ensure my wife rests well," he said, unbuttoning his cuffs.
Eliza sat up straight in panic. "Casper, I'm a patient right now. Are you sure about this?"
