His Lethal Love -
Chapter 87
Scott POV.
Maura's funeral took place in the small chapel of her birthplace in Boston. In the middle of the mountain, there is a stone chapel. Lots of cars are parked outside it. Scott parked his car at the corner and moved out of it swiftly. His face was creased with sorrow as he walked inside. He passed many familiar faces. There were also Hollywood actors and actresses, all wearing black. Archie, Maura's brother, was standing with Kate. His eyes were fixed on the ground and his expression was gloomy.
Scott walked up to him and hesitatingly placed his hand on his shoulder. Archie stepped away from him, brushing his hand away. His expression was resentful. He hated Scott's presence there. He was the one who caused his sister's death. Kate glanced at Scott and nodded something to him. Scott nodded back and walked away.
Maura's coffin was in the middle of the aisle as the priest started to speak.
"Before I begin I have asked Archie to say a few words."
Archie stepped lazily forward as he watched the microphone for a minute before he started to speak.
"Maura Garcia..." he smiled sadly with tears in his eyes. "My only family in this world..."
He continued for a few minutes before Scott was invited to say a few words about her. He took a long breath before standing in the aisle.
"It is too much for me. Maura was always kind, and pleasant to me. All of a sudden this..." Scott sighed heavily. "Sorry, I was too devastated."
After a while, Her body was buried and Scott was standing near it, watching everything with a blank expression. He was confused, pained, and scared. Maura was planning to take her own life? He could never have imagined that she could ever do it. It was too much for him. When he heard her news that day he drove straight to the hospital where Maura was being taken for treatment. She was pronounced dead there. She hung herself after overdosing on drugs. Scott was the one who brought her body to her hometown and arranged her funeral. He started to hate himself even more for doing that to her. She begged him for love and he was unable to do it.
People passed by and gave their consoles but nothing entered Scott's brain as his eyes focused on Maura's coffin. He wondered what would happen if he married Maura four years ago. Would they both be happy couples? Or she continued to use drugs and engage in sexual activity? Was not marrying Maura his mistake? He practically killed that woman. It was his fault that Maura committed suicide.
Suddenly he recalled Camille's words.
'I swear I'll finish every person who loves you, Scott Martinez. Nobody will be there for you when you need them the most.'
"Shit! She told the truth," Scott muttered to himself and glanced at Archie who was silently crying on Kate's shoulder.
In a couple of hours, when all the guests have left. Archie advanced on Scott and grabbed him by his collar. "I won't forget her death, Scott!" He snarled, pushed him away roughly, and stalked off the graveyard.
Kate squeezed Scott's shoulder. "Don't mind his words. He is angry. Everyone knows about Maura's drug addiction. I asked Archie to send her to the rehab center but he never listened to me."
Scott looked at Archie who was storming out of the graveyard angrily. "Somewhere it was my fault, Kate. If I was there for her she never took this step."
Kate said nothing and left.
Scott sat on the mud, near Maura's coffin and watched her headstone quietly. 'Will I be remembered? Maura Garcia.' These words were written on the graveyard's headstone. He smiled sadly, shaking his head. "I fucked up! I just fucked everything!"
Camille stepped up next to Scott where he was sitting and lowered herself. "I'm sorry for your loss." Her voice was emotionless.
Scott turned his head to see her and was not surprised by her sudden appearance in America. She never wanted to come to her birthplace as it reminded her of her nightmares. Scott said nothing and looked away from her with a clenched jaw. "Are you okay?" she asked while placing her hand on his shoulder. "I never thought she would commit suicide."
"I don't know why I felt like it was not suicide," Scott whispered without looking at her.
Camille frowned. "Do you think I killed her?" she asked almost shockingly.
"Of course not, Cam. You can't do that even if you want to." He turned his head to her. "I have known Maura forever. She was too selfish to take her own life. I think it was murder."
"I thought the same thing but I thought you blamed me for her death."
"You don't understand me at all." Scott smiled sadly. "If you could know how much you mean to me, Cam. I could never hate you, no matter how terrible things got between us. If only I knew your truth earlier we would not have been at this stage."
"But you never tried to replace my truth nor did you give me a chance." Camille plucked a wildflower from the mud, scanning it. "Do you know why you never tried to listen to me?"
Scott's brows creased in confusion as he asked, "Why?"
"Because you believed her." Camille nodded at Maura's coffin. "She told you a lie and you trust her every word. She knew that Samuel was raping me but she never let you know. She helped him to approach me. It was her plan. She knew everything, yet she supported Samuel."
Scott placed his hand on her shivering hand and looked into her eyes. Camille paused speaking, sighing shakily. "I hate my past! And I hate her. Call me cruel but I am happy that she is no longer alive."
Camille bit into her lower lip, gazing at her grave. "I can't believe I said these words. I have never been like this, Scott."
"I know," Scott said quietly. "I like the way you are. You don't need to pretend to be a good or bad person, Cam." Scott paused briefly. "When did you come here?"
"Just a few hours ago."
"Wanna meet your family?" Scott asked and Camille hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Let's go then."
"But how...do you..." Camille couldn't form a proper word. "How do you know about them?"
"I'll tell you everything but first you need to get on your feet." Scott grabbed her hand and pulled her onto her feet.
They sat in the car and Scott drove down the town. Camille watched the place where she spent her childhood. "Can you drive me to my mother's cemetery first?" she asked him unsurely.
"Yeah, sure." Scott took a U-turn and drove to the cemetery. It took them half an hour to reach there. Camille quickly took off her seatbelt and rushed to the cemetery. She threw the iron gate open and stepped inside. Her eyes watered when she caught her mother's grave. She walked up there, looking at dried flowers and a few letters. She frowned at those letters.
"It was your younger brother who often visited your mother," Scott said from behind her as if he had read her mind.
"Caden?" Camille blurted out, shooting her eyes at him.
"He is fifteen now."
Camille broke into tears. "Does he know about me?"
"I guess yes," Scott replied, sitting next to her.
"How are they doing?" Camille asked, her voice inaudible. She was desperate to know about her family.
"You hired a private investigator for me. Why didn't you ask him about your siblings?" Camille's eyes popped out to listen to his words as she snapped her head at him, gazing at him in disbelief. "How do you know that?"
Scott scoffed. "I would say you should have hired a competent investigator."
"What do you mean by that?" Camille's face flustered in embarrassment.
"It's fine, baby." Scott rose to his feet and stuffed his hands into his pants pockets. He watched Camille as she murmured something to her mother. He walked away from her so that he didn't invade her personal space. After a few minutes, Camille walked over to his car and got inside. Her face was crumbling and sad.
During their entire drive, they didn't speak. Camille's breath hitched when Scott parked the car in front of a multi-story building.
"Is this the house where they live?" Camille asked in shock.
"Yes." Scott opened the door for her. They walked up the stairs and rang the bell. In a few moments, Natalie answered the door with her four-year-old son. Natalie rooted at the spot in shock as soon as she opened the door and saw Camille. "Hi..." Camille threw a nervous smile.
Natalie didn't smile back and turned to Scott. "Mr. Scott, it's nice to see you here. How are you?"

"Umm...I'm sorry. Please, come on in." Natalie ignored Camille's presence.
"Oh my goodness! Is he your son?" Camille cried in excitement when she saw a chubby boy. "What is his name?"
"Charles," Natalie replied roughly and led them into the living room. Camille glanced around at the quaint house. "Is this your house? It's so beautiful."
Natalie stopped walking and turned around to see Camille. Her expression was bitter. She was not happy to see Camille there. "No, this house belongs to Mr. Martinez. He just lends it to us until we come out of the debt our father left." Camille's jaw flexed as she threw a cold glare at Scott before looking back at Natalie. "How are you?"
Natalie crossed her arms over her chest, looking away from her sister. "We're fine without you." "Nati, why are you talking to me like that?"
"Why?" she laughed bitterly. "You are really asking this question? You just left us in father's debt with your so-called boyfriend. I thought you would be back but you never looked back at your family in the last four years." "I'm sorry but I..." Her voice trailed off as she glanced at Scott. "I never wanted to reveal my true identity."
"We are your family, Camille?!" Natalie snapped. "Come on, Camille, you need to stop acting like you really care about us. All you care about is money or your rich boyfriend. Once you are freed from us, you have never visited us again. If Scott did not help us we would have been in jail."
Camille's jaw flexed and her hatred for Scott rose. First, he took Rika and now her family. Everyone was against her. Nobody could see the hardships Camille had to endure in the last four years. Everyone was thinking of themselves. "I'll pay off all the debt, but first I need to meet with my lawyer."
"Well, we don't want you to do that because, in the next month, everything will be cleared off." Natalie stepped up to her sister, staring into her eyes. "Do us a favor never come back into our lives. We don't want you in our lives, Cara Davidson."
"Nati, what are you speaking about?"
Suddenly a tall boy appeared from upstairs. He had tattoos on his arms and his hair fell across his face. Camille didn't take time to recognize her younger brother as she rushed toward him. "Caden," she whispered with a huge smile on her face. "Oh my God, what have you become? You're totally unrecognisable."
"Who are you?" Caden frowned and Camille froze, dumbstruck.
