#Chapter 862: The Precious Gift Left for Me

Yanis looked at him and couldn't help but reach out and gently ruffle Zane's hair. "I know."

Just as Zane was about to speak, he saw Bonnie standing by the window, looking at them with a disdainful expression. He raised his hand and rolled down the car window. "What's up, Miss Cooke?" Bonnie looked at Zane with contempt. "Can't you two consider the feelings of us single folks?"

Yanis suppressed a smile and looked at Bonnie. "What's wrong?"

"Old Mr. Cooke asked me to ask you if you and your Mr. Lawrence can come over for dinner tomorrow night?" Bonnie leaned against the car and asked.

Yanis glanced at Zane's face. "Do you have any plans for tomorrow night?"

Zane responded, "Not at the moment."

"In that case, should I let Old Mr. Cooke know later? We'll go for dinner tomorrow night then?" Yanis nodded.

"Alright, go on, hurry up and leave. You lovebirds should go home and be lovey-dovey." Bonnie waved her hand, signaling Yanis and Zane to leave.

"Okay, we'll head home now."

Bonnie covered her eyes with her hand and waved for Yanis and Zane to leave. After they left, Bonnie turned around and greeted Linda before driving to Maple House. When Bonnie arrived at Maple House, Lane was already there.

"Did you wait long?" Bonnie entered the private room and greeted Lane.

"I just got here a little while ago," Lane stood up and pulled out a chair for Bonnie. "Have a seat."

Bonnie thanked him and sat down on the chair. "Yanis originally said we'd have dinner together tonight, but I made plans with you, so I stood her up."

Bonnie could tell that Lane could see through her thoughts, so she tried to act natural when she was with him.

"Why didn't you bring her along? I actually wanted to invite her as well, but I was worried Mr. Lawrence would get jealous, so I didn't dare ask." Lane whispered. Bonnie chuckled, "The lovebirds went for a candlelit dinner, they don't want to be with us single folks."

Lane listened to Bonnie's words and chuckled softly, "We'll do it together next time."

Saying that, Lane took a menu from the side and handed it to Bonnie. "Take a look, choose something to eat."

Bonnie took the menu from him. "The dishes here are pretty good. Do you have any dietary restrictions?"

Lane replied, "Not really. Just order what you like, don't worry about me."

Bonnie looked at the menu while responding, "That won't do. This way, I'll know what you like to eat and what you don't like for next time."

As Bonnie spoke, Lane's gaze fell on her face, and he couldn't help but space out for a moment.

"Do I have something on my face?" Bonnie raised her eyes and coincidentally met Lane's gaze. She reached up and touched her face.

Lane slightly averted his gaze, feeling a bit flustered. "No, have you finished looking? Shall I call the waiter?"

Bonnie nodded. "Almost done. Why don't you take a look at what you'd like to eat? We don't need to order too much since it's just the two of us."

Lane responded with an "mm-hmm" and took the menu from Bonnie. He casually marked a couple of items and then called the waiter over to hand him the menu.

"Are you planning to stay in Manches City for a while?" Bonnie asked,

looking at Lane.

"For now, I plan to settle down in Manches City. I don't take on cases that are too far away anymore," Lane replied.

"That's good. You can take care of your family more easily in Manches City," Bonnie said.

"There are other reasons too." After Bonnie's words, Lane deliberately added an explanation.

Bonnie's smile froze slightly when she heard Lane's words, but she quickly replied naturally, "I think Manches City is great."

Lane nodded. "The people are great too."

Lane's words tonight were a bit too straightforward, leaving Bonnie speechless a few times. But Lane had a sense of propriety and, after a few deliberate hints, he returned to normal conversation. The two of them continued to chat about ordinary things.

After finishing their meal, Bonnie was originally going to go home, but Lane suggested taking a walk nearby. Bonnie thought that refusing might seem too deliberate, considering that he had just treated her to a meal. It wouldn't be right to just leave like that.

So Bonnie didn't refuse and went along with Lane for a stroll nearby.

Since Bonnie had been lying down for a while, she didn't feel like moving after taking just a few steps. Lane realized this only now, "Sorry, I forgot about your current condition. If you're tired, let's go back?" Upon hearing Lane's words, Bonnie looked at him apologetically, "It's okay, I guess I haven't been moving around much lately, so sudden movement feels a bit tiring."

Lane glanced around and pointed, "There are chairs over there. Let's go sit for a while and then head back."

Bonnie nodded and walked towards the chairs.

"Bonnie, can I ask you a question?" After a brief silence between them, Lane spoke up.

Bonnie turned to Lane when she heard his voice, "What is it?"

Lane repeated the question in his mind a few times before asking, "Why... did you want to keep the child when he's not around?"

Perhaps it was because Lane had dealt with many cases where women struggled to raise their children alone or were in desperate situations with their children. So he wondered why someone would choose to keep a child when the father was no longer present.

After saying this, Lane paused for a moment and added, "I mean..."

"I know what you mean. I just feel that since he came, it's fate, and I want to keep him. It's the precious gift he left for me," Bonnie interrupted Lane softly. "You might think that since he's no longer here, keeping the child without a father would be difficult. I've thought about it too, but I still want to keep him. At least, it's clear that he loved me very much."

Lane looked at Bonnie, opened his mouth to say something, but didn't utter any other words.

Myles' love for Bonnie was evident to everyone, including Lane.

And Bonnie's love for Myles was also apparent.

But fate was unfair, as Myles couldn't accompany her to the end of her life, and Bonnie didn't have the chance to spend a lifetime with him. "Lane?" Just as Lane was thinking of changing the topic and continuing the conversation with Bonnie, a woman's voice came from the side.

Hearing the voice, Bonnie turned her head in that direction and was slightly surprised.

Esme walked over from the side with a smile and greeted Bonnie, then turned to Lane, "Aunt mentioned that you're staying in Manches City. I was thinking of inviting you for a meal sometime." Lane responded, "I've been busy with work lately, so I haven't had much free time."
