Chapter 994: Clarify Before Starting
When Stella met Luca's gaze, her expression instantly turned cold. She asked in a stern voice, "Where's Meggie?"
Luca stood up and looked at Stella, speaking softly, "She went out to buy something. She should be back in a moment. Wait here."
Olivia subconsciously took a couple of steps backward as Luca approached her.
Upon seeing Stella's reaction, Luca stopped in his tracks. "I won't come over. Just sit here for a while. She'll be back soon. Or maybe you can call her?"
As Luca spoke, Stella picked up her phone and dialed Meggie's number.
Meggie answered quickly, "Stella, are you here? Wait for me at home; I'll be back in about ten minutes."
The moment the call connected, Meggie's voice came through the phone.
Stella replied, "Okay."
As Stella was about to hang up, Meggie's voice came through again, "Oh, I forgot to tell you that Luca is there too. If you feel uncomfortable, you can wait downstairs, and we'll eat outside."
Stella glanced at Luca, who was awkwardly standing on the side, and replied, "It's okay, I'll wait here."
Meggie confirmed, "Alright, I'll be back soon."
Luca stood there as Stella ended the call. "Wait here for a while," he said before turning and heading to the guest room.
Stella watched the door close after Luca entered the room. She then turned around and sat on the living room sofa.
Meggie said ten minutes, and it was indeed ten minutes. She entered the house without even changing her shoes. When she saw only Stella sitting in the living room, Meggie couldn't help but sigh with relief, "Stella, were you waiting anxiously?"
Stella looked at Meggie and replied softly, "It's fine. Did you go out?"
Meggie returned to the entrance to change her shoes, "I went out to buy some things. I thought you'd be having dinner here tonight, so I got some food you like."
After changing her shoes, Meggie brought the things into the kitchen and then came out to sit next to Stella. When she didn't see Luca, she asked, "Did Luca leave?"
Stella nodded her chin in the direction of the guest room. "He's in there."
Meggie glanced at Stella's face and then at Luca's direction. "In that case, let me go and ask him to eat out."
Stella reached out and stopped Meggie. She said softly, "Meggie, it's fine."
While Stella disliked Luca, she didn't take it to such an extreme. Moreover, this was Meggie's place, and her younger brother was here. She had no right to prevent him from being here.
Hearing Stella's words, Meggie looked at her face and then sat back down. "Stella, I don't mean anything else by asking you those questions earlier. I just think it's better to know things clearly before starting." Stella nodded, "I understand, but I haven't met this person either. He's a friend of Brandon's. Brandon wouldn't introduce me to someone unreliable. Let's see how it goes when we meet; who knows, I might not feel anything."
Meggie responded, "Sure, let's see when you meet."
After having dinner at Meggie's place and chatting for a while, Stella bid farewell and left.
When she arrived home, the lights were still off. Stella checked the time and decided to call Sandy. Sandy picked up the call quickly. "Sis, Brandon had too much to drink, and we're still at Maple House."
Hearing Sandy's words, Stella stopped in her tracks and asked, "Do you want me to come pick you up?"
After a moment of silence on Sandy's side, she said, "No need, Anthony had a bit too much to drink as well. We got a suite here, and we'll stay overnight."
Stella said, "What about you? Your situation is different. If anything happens, I can come pick you up."
"It's alright. Brandon is quite obedient when he's drunk; he won't cause trouble," Sandy assured.
Satisfied with Sandy's response, Stella said, "Alright then. Take care, and call me if anything happens." "Okay, thanks. Good night," Sandy replied.
After ending the call, Stella put her phone away and continued walking inside.
When she exited the elevator, Stella's steps suddenly halted as she saw someone squatting by her door. She furrowed her eyebrows.
