Chapter 8

The voice was familiar. Nydia turned around and smiled the moment she saw his face. “Walter!”

Walter Carlson was the twin brother of her best friend, Veronica Carlson. He was handsome and gentle, and more importantly, he was like a brother to Nydia.

“How come you’re by yourself?” Walter grinned and sat down beside her, ordering a drink as well.

“Veronica is still abroad. So I just hang out myself.” She raised the corners of her lips. “What about you? Why are you here?”

Nydia was not as frosty as usual after drinking. The alcohol lured her cute personality out. Walter casually raised his hand and smoothed her tangled hair. “To see a client.”

Nydia leaned over the table, staring at the liquid in the square–mouthed glass flashing beautifully in the light as she muttered, “Do you think there’s a limit to one’s endurance?”

Walter sensed that Nydia was in a bad mood but was not in a proper position to ask why. He said softly, “Sure. Unless, of course, your heart is dead, and there is no hope, and naturally, you wouldn’t care when it’s going to end.”

“Is that so?” Nydia turned to look at him, her eyes slightly red and teary.

Josephine picked out the things Cade didn’t like before placing the dinner plate in front of him, softly smiling and joking, “I’m going to exhaust myself taking care of you like this for the rest of my life.”

Cade absentmindedly answered her. Glancing at his cell phone screen, he tapped it and saw the photo. His face instantly darkened.

When Nydia returned to the villa at ten, she found the living room light on. Just as she stepped inside, she saw Cade standing in front of the French window. She didn’t expect Cade to come home again and

so early. He stood there motionlessly like a statue, silent and gloomy. Nydia wondered how long he had been there and whether he had seen Walter send her home.

But she had settled the matter with the board. Cade had no reason to be angry at her. And she didn’t

intend to talk too much.

So she took off her high heels and changed into slippers, asking distantly, “Mr. Jackson, you are home early today. Are you waiting for me?

The pungent smell of alcohol she carried as soon as she came in made Cade’s face even more sullen

than before, his eyes icy cold.

“Don’t flatter yourself. You really have no self–respect,” He said coldly.

Nydia smiled indifferently, not wanting to say a word. She turned to go upstairs, but Cade caught her wrist and pulled her back.

His grip was so tight that she felt her bones would be broken. She couldn’t hold back her rage anymore. “What the hell are you doing?”

“Are you that horny? Would it kill you not to mess around with men?” He grimaced angrily, his dark eyes. filled with disgust and contempt.

After she entered the room, he had been slapping the most unsavory curses on her one after the other, itching to trample her underfoot and crush her like garbage.

She was so mad at him that she even wanted to laugh. She met his eyes, asking him in the meanest manner, “There are only two reasons why a married woman still hangs around with other men. Either her husband can’t satisfy her, or her husband is cheating on her outside. Guess which one suits me the best?”

Cade didn’t expect this. He froze for a few seconds and realized that her backhanded sneer was just a disguised tacit admission that she was out there messing around with men.

His anger skyrocketed. He slammed her into the couch, hands heavily clamped down on her thin- shoulders with the strength to crush her. His eyes were dark, and he said, “You’re disgusting!”
