Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 77
Maya
We ate almost silently while Axel complained that he had not received any biscuits and therefore refused to eat spaghetti with sauce. Every time I tried to feed him, he would turn around and seal his mouth.
“Please Axel, eat,” I almost begged, stretching the fork back to his mouth.
In response, Axel sealed his lips and turned his head to the other side, crossing his arms across his chest.
My eyes filled with tears and my lower l*p shook imperceptibly. Why the f**k was I crying?
I turned to Nate and I begged him with tears in my eyes and he looked at me frowning.
“Axel,” he said in a stern voice, in response, he turned to his father and looked at him, “Eat,” he said sternly.
Axel looked at him, his eyes full of defiance, and shook his head, “No,” he said with clenched teeth.
I began to sob “He Doesn’t listen anymore!” I said to myself at a crying crisis.
Both Axel and Nate looked at me with the same frowning expression.
“Mom, don’t cry,” Axel said.
“Eat and your mother stops crying,” Nate said, but Axel didn’t give in, shaking his head again, “Okay,” Nate replied quietly.
He stretched out and took the plate out in front of him and dismissed him “No pasta, no biscuits, no juice after” he ruled.
Axel opened his mouth and his eyes wide, surprised that he had not won it by Nate who always made them pass smooth.
Immediately my baby turned his head towards me and looked at me with shiny eyes which made me cry even more, “Mama, Axel twituit,” he said, trying to bribe me with his fawn eyes.
I opened my mouth to reply, but Nate preceded me, “No,” he said, capturing Axel’s attention, “First eat the pasta and then the dessert, otherwise neither,” he said as seriously as possible.
Axel shook his head again and looked at me, “Then don’t eat,” Nate sternly sentenced.
Axel looked down and made the gesture to get out of the car seat. I immediately satisfied him and put him down and he ran to his room, surely crying. I looked at Nate with tears in my eyes, I didn’t know why I was crying, because Nate was right. We couldn’t always let him do what he wanted and give him a win, and Axel tended to take advantage of it often. I just couldn’t see my baby with tears, I couldn’t.
“Necessary,” Nate said, continuing to eat his pasta.
“I know,” I said with a string of my voice.
“Put it aside, later he will yield and will want to eat,” he said chewing, “We can’t give in to him.”
“You’re the one who won him over,” I said, almost sobbing.
“Why are you crying now?” he asked almost exasperated.
“I don’t know!” I snapped, wiping my cheeks with my hand.
“You’re weird these days”
“Oh shut up,” I said.
We finish eating and settle the kitchen quietly while Axel stayed in his room, be it the first rebellion?
I was tempted to go over there and cuddle him, but Nate looked at me like a hawk. If there was one thing I was more than confident about, it was Axel’s upbringing, I knew Nate would be great with him.
After we finished with the kitchen we both sat in the living room on the sofa, with the TV on, after a little while Nate went to check on Axel and came back dazed.
“So?” I asked.
“He’s sitting on the floor playing in silence,” he said. I could see that he was going to give up, that he was going to take all the boxes of biscuits and go and buy more just to make him happy.
“Sit down,” I said, touching the seat next to me on the couch, “Tell me about the houses.”
Nate sighed and sat down, “They weren’t very good to be honest,” he admitted.
“They didn’t inspire me to have a family together, I didn’t see us there in the garden with Axel at all,” he said.
“I trust you. We’ll see about the next ones, what did the real estate agency tell you?”
“He will look for someone else in the neighborhood where we grew up”.
“Next to Mom and Dad,” Nate nodded.
“But there the prices are very high, the ideal would be to make a mortgage to pay it but I don’t really want to get involved with the banks”
I sighed, “We will replace a solution,” I said sure. Because it was. Together we would replace any solution.
I started zapping between channels, both of which were focused on television when Axel’s thin voice caught up with us.
“Dad, Mom,” she said, and we both turned to him, replaceing him standing next to the couch, “Axel sorry,” he said with tears in his eyes, “Axel no bad,” he said crying again.
“Come here,” Nate said.
Immediately Axel rushed to him and Nate picked him up and hugged him close to him. Axel was sobbing. Tears came to my eyes again. I looked at the ceiling and tried not to cry. Because I was so bloody hypersensitive.
“Do you want to eat now?” Nate asked softly.
Axel nodded cheerfully and Nate stood up with him in his arms and then took him to the kitchen. I got up and followed them. I took Axel’s pasta plate and put it in the microwave while Nate put it in the car seat and put the cutlery in front of it.
Once warmed up, I put the plate in front of him and Nate began to take it easy, while Axel ate everything, getting pampered by his father.
I laughed and turned to the calendar. The next day would be Monday and I had circled the red date.
“Tomorrow is the first day of kindergarten,” I said on the phone, “Classes won’t start again for at least another two weeks, I can take him. When I have the schedule of the lessons we agree,” I said.
Nate nodded and continued to feed Axel cheerfully.
I stayed with the phone in my hand while checking the notifications that I had completely bypassed. I came to the notification of my menstruation and I froze.
The notification that the last period had come to me more than two months ago. My breath froze in my throat and I think my heart stopped beating.
“What?” Nate asked.
I looked up and watched as Nate kept feeding Axel.
“I’m late for my period,” I said with a string of my voice.
Nate froze and the fork fell from his hand, rumbling on the plate, while Axel remained with his mouth open, waiting for the pasta fork.
