Nate

Maya went to open the door while I closed the file with the sales proposals. I heard voices coming from the entrance and frowned, and I went, too, replaceing Maya standing at the door with three people. Two women and a police officer.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Mr Nathaniel Dare, right?” asked one of the two women, reading a file.

“Nate,” Maya said with a string of her voice.

I saw her lose her balance and immediately I was behind her to support her. I surrounded her waist with one arm and put her back on my chest.

“They want to get Axel,” she said in a whisper.

My head snapped, as did my whole body. I pushed Maya behind me and blocked the door, preventing him from seeing inside the apartment.

“You can’t come in here and kidnap a minor,” I said with my teeth clenched, my heart pounding in my throat and pounding.

“We have an order from the juvenile judge,” said the woman.

I clenched my teeth even more, almost certain that I also had b***d.

“Under what accusation was this decision made?” I said.

“Mrs Dare has been sued by Mr Brad Accorson, Mr Accorson declares that the lady kept the child without any right by refusing to have the paternity recognized for this he sued her and until there is the judge’s decision the child can not stay with her”

“Mr Accorson has no legal right to the child, there has been an adoption on my part, there must be a file,” I said.

“Until an investigation is made, we must keep the child,” the woman insisted.

“Nate” repeated Maya.

The woman handed me the judge’s warrant and cut my breath in my throat. There was nothing we could do but let them into the house or we could be sued.

I turned around and took Maya to keep her from falling back.

“We can’t do anything,” I said, looking into her eyes.

I saw how the b***d stopped circulating in her body and her face turned completely cadaveric white as she stared frightened.

“No,” she whispered, “They can’t. He’s my baby,” she said as she sobbed.

I approached her ear and I whispered to her, “We have to do everything according to the law or else it will be worse, I swear we’ll get him back but don’t complicate things,” I said and then kissed her on the cheek.

“Gentlemen Dare, we must,” said the other woman.

I nodded and I left Maya who went to the kitchen “I prepare his stuff” I said.

I went to Axel’s room and I took some of his clothes, trying not to break down, I knew that the only one who didn’t have to break was me or Maya and I would never get up again and we had to do it. Because I would take him back at any cost, they had no rights and that was just a ploy that had used that worm of his ex thinking that that way he would have the guardianship of Axel. He had no idea who he was up against.

I went back to the entrance and saw Maya sitting on the ground with Axel in her arms, completely wrapped in her arms.

I left the bag in the hand of one of the two women.

“I want your names,” I said to the two clenched teeth.

Both of them gave me their business cards that I will come back immediately.

I went into the kitchen and I squatted down next to Maya.

“I can’t,” Maya said with tears in her eyes.

“If we don’t do it this way it will be worse, there will be consequences. I promise I’ll get him back, I’ll burn the world to the ground to do it,” I said, hugging them both.

“For how long, Nate.”

I was about to answer when one of the women walked into the kitchen with the policeman.

“Gentlemen Dare I’m sorry but we have to take the child,” said the woman, nodding to the man.

“Can’t you see what you’re doing? Separating a son from his mother?” I said, looking grim.

“We’re more sorry than you, Mr Dare, but we have a job to do.”

The policeman approached and pulled Axel from Maya’s arms, who immediately bursting into tears and shouting our name. Maya collapsed on the ground crying as I stood up and went to get Axel and comfort him. I couldn’t let him cry, I couldn’t leave him with someone else. He was my child, nobody had the right to take him.

The woman immediately blocked me.

“I wouldn’t recommend it if Mrs Dare didn’t want to make things worse,” she said and left, following the policeman.

Axel continued to scream and stretch toward me until the door was closed and he felt my heart completely broken, my body shattered and I fell to my knees defenceless, unable to do anything.

I couldn’t do anything. I was useless. I couldn’t stop that. Maya burst into a desperate cry and I could not move, I just felt my heart broken, as if a part of me had been torn.

I turned to Maya and the screws that she held her chest and breathed anxiously, I crawled up to her and wrapped her arms, trying to make her calm even if I wasn’t quiet.

I took my phone out of my pocket and called my dad right away.

“Nate?” he quietly said, “What’s going on?” he added, frightened, hearing Maya’s crying in the background.

“Please come here immediately,” I said with a thread of my voice and then hung up.

“My baby,” Maya said, sobbing uncontrollably.
