Chapter 70

Sarah gathered her courage and stepped out, glancing around before asking softly,” Linda, where’s Melina?”

They had all changed clothes a while ago, but Melina was still nowhere to be seen.

Linda shook her head, secretly wishing Melina would disappear.

Andrew was furious and genuinely angry. He sat on a high stool in the corner while slowly sipping his drink. The air around him radiated danger, enough to keep everyone at a distance, including Linda.

As they talked, a few girls came over and gathered around them. Technically, the Thompson family didn’t have the standing to attend such a private gathering, but because of Andrew, Linda had become a central figure.

‘Linda, Sarah, what are you two talking about?

“We were just thinking of heading to Oakread for some fun tomorrow. Linda, you should talk to Andrew as he always agrees when you ask.

Linda shook off her earlier thoughts and said with a proper smile. “Sure, I’ll talk to him. But you’ll need to bring your drinks. Let’s not raid Andrew’s private collection.

*Come on, Linda! You’re not even married to him yet, and you’re already protecting him? Fine, we’ll bring our own.”

“Don’t joke around. Andrew won’t be happy if he hears,” Linda replied.

“Don’t be shy, Linda. It’s pretty much a done deal at this point. Since you’ve agreed, it’s settled and we’ll all go to Oakread tomorrow.

It was as if everything Linda said carried Andrew’s authority as if she were already Oakread’s unofficial madam, and Linda loved that feeling. After all, it was just a gathering, and Andrew wouldn’t object.

After chatting for a while longer, the group made their way toward where the elders were seated, and that’s when they saw Melina.

She wasn’t dressed in formal attire but instead wore a loose–fitting martial arts outfit. At that moment, she played chess with a few elderly men.

“Hey, Mr. Black Senior, no take backs! You can’t cheat.”

“Mr. Dignam Senior, didn’t I tell you teaming up with me was the right move? I learned chess from the best old masters in the mountains. I wiped the floor with

“Lina, a close eye on Tony. He loves taking back his moves, and he plays dishonestly!”

“Alan, you old fox, how dare you slander me?

Three elders were also dressed in loose martial arts outfits. Melina blended in with them seamlessly, as if she belonged there.

The young crowd exchanged confused glances. These elderly men represented the most powerful factions in Cyntia.

For these youngsters, simply attending the event was a privilege. Joining the elders‘ activities was out of reach.

But Melina? She wasn’t just part of the group but she was also seamlessly blending in.

Almost everyone present had heard of Melina. Her arrival at Oakread spread quickly among the elite who frequented the place, not to mention Linda’s hasty return from abroad just because of her.

Melina was the first woman to ever live at Oakread. Whether she was a maid or something else, anyone staying there was important enough for people to remember.

Then, one brainless woman couldn’t help but blurt out, “Isn’t that the maid from the Wentworth family?”

Her comment echoed in the quiet room and was loud enough for many to hear. Even the elders picked up on it.

That woman immediately covered her mouth after realizing her mistake, and the panic flashed across her face as her family elder shot her a warning glare.

Wallace’s face darkened.

Was that how that fool Andrew had introduced Melina to everyone?
