Love at the Door
Chapter 78

Chapter 78

To verify the information, Andrew sent someone directly to Melina’s hometown to dig deeper. He wanted to know details about her life, and nothing could be left

unchecked

Andrew was unable to sleep and gave up trying altogether.

Late at night, the oppressive atmosphere around Andrew seemed to grow heavier

For the first time, he realized just how much Melina had affected him. It had only been a few days, but he was already growing dependent on the calmness she brought him.

But what if Melina found out about him? She could easily use that knowledge against him and threaten his control.

The unpredictability of it, such as the possibility of such a dangerous weakness, had sparked a fleeting but dark thought within him to destroy her before she became a

threat.

In the next moment, Andrew flipped on all the lights at Oakread. Darkness had a way of unleashing demons, so it was better to keep the place bright.

Standing by the window on the second floor, he noticed something odd in the garden below. A few tiny plants had started to sprout.

He vaguely recalled Melina in mentioning she had planted cabbages or maybe

tomatoes.

Andrew went downstairs and stepped outside.

He stared at the small green shoots breaking through the soil, so delicate yet filled with an undeniable vitality, just like Melina. They were fragile on the surface but carried a resilient spirit beneath.

He forced himself to suppress the violent thoughts stirring inside him.

Meanwhile, Linda went home alone in a daze.

A deep sense of unease gnawed at her. It wasn’t Wallace’s attitude that bothered her as he had never treated her particularly well. What worried her was Andrew.

Wallace’s opinion doesn’t matter to

her. As long as she held onto Andrew, she felt

secure.

But now, she could sense something shifting within him–a change she couldn’t

control.

For years, Linda had centered her life around Andrew, watching his every move and knowing him better than he knew himself. That’s why the anxiety she felt now was so overwhelming as Andrew was slipping out of her grasp.

As she took out her key, unlocked her door, and stepped inside, Mary’s complaints greeted her instantly.

“Linda, you’re back. What’s going on? Why did the Wentworth family cut off their business with us? Did you do something to upset Andrew? You’d better figure it out and apologize for it!

“And your brother’s grades are terrible, but he still wants to get into Cyntia University. We don’t have any connections for it. Please ask Andrew for help.

“About that jewelry Andrew gave you last time, your brother’s girlfriend really liked it, so I gave it to her. Just get Andrew to buy you something nicer.”

Linda’s head was spinning. She could hardly hear the words anymore, just the incessant and nagging voice going on and on.

She screamed while throwing the glass in her hand to the floor in frustration. “Can you stop? Just stop! Why do I always have to run to Andrew? Why!”

Mary was startled, but later, she snapped back angrily, “Why? Because you saved his life years ago! He owes us, and the Thompson family deserves the benefits. It’s just a few small favors. What’s the big deal?”

“I bet it’s not Andrew refusing to help, but it’s you! You’re just too selfish to care about your brother!”

you want me to give? I’ve Linda’s frustration turned to rage. “How much more done everything for him and for this family! When will it ever be enough? Andrew doesn’t even respect me anymore! He’s with someone else now. Are you happy now?

Mary stopped making trouble when she heard her.

She asked nervously, “What did you say? Andrew has another woman? That can’t be! Everyone in Cyntia knows he’s never been interested in other women. It’s always been just you!”
