Love at the Door -
Chapter 81
Chapter 81
Melina swiftly bounced back without allowing herself to wallow in sadness and pain. Her main priority now was to earn money.
She’d taken a few days off to look after Andrew, but since he didn’t seem to need her care, she decided to head back to work today itself. It was Monday, so she could carry on with her tutoring in the afternoon as well.
After changing into her old clothes, she headed downstairs. She planned on heading to Oakread after work today to bring some of her clothes over. That way, Wallace wouldn’t have to keep buying new ones for her.
The sun had just barely risen. Thinking it was still early, Melina assumed everyone else was still asleep. However, when she got downstairs, she saw Celine’s two young daughters sitting on the living room couch and chatting while they played on their phones.
Quick. Once we’re done with this round, we need to hurry up and head back to our room. We’d be doomed if the adults came down and realized we’d stayed up all night playing games.”
“This is all Grandpa’s fault. He’s so nice to Melina, that new cousin–in–law of ours, but he wants us to share a room with Mom! If we had our own room, we could’ve
just locked the door and played as much as we wanted. We wouldn’t have to sneak down to the living room in the middle of the night just to play on our phones.”
“Who are you calling our cousin–in–law? She’s just an outsider! I refuse to accept her as a member of the family. Didn’t you see what happened yesterday? Even though it was her first time coming over, Andrew didn’t even come with her.”
“You’re right. I think Andrew doesn’t even like her. He won’t be coming back here either. Look at her moving into the Wentworth residence without him when she’s his newlywed wife! Isn’t she afraid of getting mocked?”
As Melina came closer, the two girls who were noticed her, and their chatter died down.
engrossed in their game finally
Melina approached them, and one of the girls called out in a loud yet hesitant voice,” W–What do you want?”
Being in a bad mood herself, Melina said curtly, “Nothing. I just want to remind you that as children, you should be focusing on your studies. You shouldn’t be making le comments about people behind their backs. That’ll only make it seem like your on’t have any manners.”
“How dare you say that we don’t have any manners? So what if we said those things about you? Even if we said it to your face, what could you do about it? Go on! I dare you to admonish us if you can!”
Melina abruptly leaned in close and said solemnly, “I can’t admonish you, but if you get on my nerves, I’ll hit you.”
“Why, you…”
Melina walked off without waiting for their response. She’d heard all sorts of gossip and unsavory remarks growing up. As long as those people didn’t provoke her, she didn’t care what they said. In any case, she didn’t care what the other Wentworths thought of her, as long as Wallace was pleased with her.
Meanwhile, Celine’s daughters were outraged, but they dared not confront Melina about it. Though they didn’t fear her, they were afraid of Andrew.
Apart from Wallace, the entire Wentworth family was afraid of Andrew. In their eyes, he was a demon. A full–blown lunatic wouldn’t be as terrifying, but alas. Andrew seemed perfectly normal most days, but there was no telling what would happen when he was angered.
Melina didn’t care what the two girls thought. She went to the kitchen to make herself a simple breakfast. It was too expensive to eat out, and she wanted to save money whenever she could. Yet when she got there, she realized the staff had already prepared a full breakfast spread.
She asked the chef, “Hi there. Can I take a couple of pieces of toast?”
The chef, who was still busy preparing more food, turned around. When he spotted. her, he hurriedly replied, “Of course. Feel free to have whatever you like, Mrs. Wentworth. If there’s anything in particular you’d like to have, do let me know. I’ll make it for you.”
When Wallace introduced Melina yesterday, he even made sure all of the household staff, including the chefs, the maids, the drivers, and the security guards, knew who she was. Thus, all of the staff recognized her and treated her with courtesy.
Melina felt a little awkward about being addressed so formally by the chef. She felt as though she was in some kind of alternate universe.
Cheeks flushing slightly, she said, “Thanks, but it’s alright. I’ll be fine with just a few pieces of toast.”
She grabbed what she wanted and scrambled to leave.
The chef couldn’t believe that the shy Melina was Andrew’s wife–their personalities

felt as different as day and night.
After scarfing down the toast, Melina took a cab to work. When she got to the supermarket, she started greeting everyone while heading to her station. Her arrival seemed to inject life into the rather dreary supermarket where everyone had been busy tending to their own work.
Melina seemed to possess some kind of power that allowed her to transmit her liveliness and zeal to those around her.
