Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1048: She's no match for Eloise

Earlene arrived at the institute and immediately changed into a white coat. She looked at herself in the mirror and her red lips curled.

In terms of looks, she was no match for Eloise.

In terms of ability, she was no match for Eloise either.

But why did Hector only have eyes for Eloise?

Just thinking about it made her feel all sorts of resentful.

She let out a long breath to ease her depression a little.

"Earlene, as long as you work on a drug to destroy the virus, you have a chance to win."

Cheering herself on in the mirror, Earlene took a deep breath, straightened her back and turned with a determined face to walk out of the dressing room. Throughout the morning, the research on the virus proceeded in an orderly manner.

Earlene injected the extracted virus into the mice, and strangely enough, the mice died very quickly.

The incubation period of the virus in the mice was very short, and the virus struck very quickly.

As she watched the dead mice, Earlene's eyebrows knitted together in thought.

It wasn't right.

The virus in Eloise's body should have been there for quite some time, but she was still alive and well.

A little worse for wear, but alive and well.

What was going on here?

Is it because of the difference in individuals?

But even if they were different, the virus in Eloise's body couldn't have remained intact.

Earlene decided that she couldn't figure it out just by thinking about it, so she gave up for now.

The most important thing now was to replace a cure for the virus.

It was close to noon when Earlene received a call from Edgar.

"Earlene, do you have time for lunch?"

Edgar's cautious voice came from the other side of the phone.

Earlene turned her head to look at the clock on the wall and asked, instead of answering, "What can I do for you?"

Edgar sat in the car, steering wheel in one hand, phone in the other, head sideways, gaze through the windscreen towards the Bartram Group building. "I'm downstairs at your office."

"What are you doing there?" Earlene frowned.

Edgar laughed softly, "Nothing. Just out to meet a client and happened to be passing by."

"So?"

"So..." Edgar hesitated, "Would it be convenient to have lunch together?" "Sorry, I'm not in the office."

The expected rejection, but Edgar was still lost, and he smiled to himself, "I see."

The loss in his voice could be heard even though it was through the phone.

For some reason, Earlene inexplicably felt a little overwhelmed.

She knew exactly how Edgar felt about her, and had rejected it outright.

But he was too persistent and had been unwilling to give up.

Perhaps it was the same illness.

Earlene thought this as she pursed her lips and said, "Where's the dinner? I'll come straight over." Edgar asked in disbelief, "Are you coming over?"

"Yeah."

The faint "yes" almost made Edgar cheer with excitement.

But he held back, "There's a Japanese restaurant near your office, do you know where it is?"

"Oh, I know." Earlene said.

Edgar asked again, "Where are you, do you need me to pick you up?"

"I'm at the Institute. Got my own car, see you later."

"See you later."

Edgar hung up the phone and he froze, still a little in disbelief that Earlene had accepted his invitation.

He pinched his cheek hard.

He made a painful sound and hurriedly rubbed his pinched cheek, smiling contentedly.

It was good to see her again.

...

Earlene walked into the Japanese restaurant and caught a glimpse of Edgar.

As soon as he saw her, Edgar stood up and waved at her.

She walked over to him.

"I knew you didn't like the noisy environment, so I booked the private room." Edgar looked at her with a gentle, light smile. "You took heart." Earlene returned the smile.

Edgar was embarrassed, "It's what I'm supposed to do."

When you liked someone, you had to replace out what she liked.

This, he did well.

The waiter led the way to the innermost booth in the restaurant.

Edgar sat down cross-legged and pushed the menu on the table in front of Earlene, "You order, I'll take whatever you want." Earlene didn't push back and ordered a sushi platter.

"Do you like noodles?" She looked up at the man across the table.

"Same as you."

Edgar's answer was inexplicably a little childish and Earlene raised her eyebrows and ordered two orders of udon noodles. When the order was ready, Edgar sipped his tea as he asked, pretending to be careless, "What are you doing at the Institute?" "Doing a study."

Seeing that she seemed reluctant to say more, Edgar didn't ask any more questions.

He smiled, "I haven't seen you in a white coat yet, you must look particularly good."

"Not bad."

Earlene spared the words and Edgar couldn't help but laugh, "How come you're so shy of words like me Hector?"

"Is that so?" Hearing him say she was like Hector made Earlene feel a little happy.

He could clearly see her eyes suddenly light up, and it took Edgar a moment to realise what he had said, and he wanted to slap himself.

He knew she liked Hector, but he had even brought it up.

He drank his coffee straight from his cup in frustration.

Earlene didn't notice, she bit her lip and hesitated for a moment before asking, "How's Eloise these days?"

"Pretty good." Edgar sipped his coffee sullenly.

"So..."

Without waiting for Earlene to finish, he said bluntly, "He's gone to Italy."

Earlene froze, then realised who 'he' was referring to.

"What's he doing in Italy?" Earlene asked, almost subconsciously.

"How should I know." Edgar put his glass down and quirked the corner of his mouth in self-deprecation, "Earlene, you really do care about me Hector." Meeting his deep gaze, Earlene unconsciously averted her eyes, "Do you?"

"It's all showing on your face." Edgar said.

Earlene reluctantly tugged at the corner of her mouth as she picked up her tea to hide the panic she was feeling inside.

"Earlene ...," Edgar weighed his words, "they're really close."

At that, the coffee in her mouth was instantly bitter and Earlene curled her lips in a smile, "I know, so?"

"So..." Edgar wanted to talk her out of it, but found himself in no position to tell her to give up.

All he could do was smile and say, "Nothing."

After that, both of them fell into silence.

It wasn't until the waiter brought in the food that the awkwardness that filled the room was slightly relieved.

Edgar glanced up at Earlene and sighed heavily inwardly; he always made the situation awkward every time he did.

"Earlene," he tried out.

Earlene looked up at him.

Meeting her cold gaze, he swallowed back what he was going to say and he tugged the corner of his mouth, "It tastes okay here, I hope you'll like it." "I've been here a few times." Earlene's said faintly and ducked her head.

Edgar raised his hand to his forehead, even more speechless at himself.

This cooking restaurant was right next to her home office, she must know it better than he did.
