Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1049: Can you ask for me?
Halfway through her meal, Earlene put down her chopsticks, picked up her napkin and wiped the corner of her mouth elegantly.
Raising her eyes, she looked at the man across the table.
"Edgar, do you really not know what Mr Hector is doing in Italy?"
Edgar's hands moved, he swallowed what was in his mouth, lifted his head and raised his lips in a smile, "I've just said that I don't know. And it's his personal business, I'm not at liberty to ask that much." "Then you ..." Earlene hesitated, "can you ask for me?"
The smile on Edgar's face froze instantly, and he felt really uncomfortable inside.
What did she take him for, anyway?
Or did she just want to get Hector's information from herself?
Seeing that Edgar's face was not right, Earlene realised that she had overstepped the mark and she smiled awkwardly, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have ..."
"It's okay." Edgar interrupted her as he took a deep breath and continued, "Earlene, I'm Eloise's cousin and I couldn't possibly do anything to hurt her. I really hope you can let go of this relationship that is simply not possible, it's better for you, for Eloise and for Hector."
Earlene looked puzzled and didn't make a sound.
"I know it's not my place to tell you what to do with your feelings. But I really don't want you to cling on, it's you who will suffer." Edgar looked at her heartbreakingly.
Lifting the juice on the table and taking a sip, Earlene smiled bitterly, "Who wouldn't want to let go if they could. But ..."
She raised her eyes with a mixture of emotions in them, "I can't let go, I'm sorry."
That was to be expected.
Edgar sighed, "You don't have to apologize to me, this was supposed to be your own business and I shouldn't have meddled." In the end, he was really disappointed.
He had thought she would be a very sensible, principled person, but now she didn't seem to be, instead she was a bit stubborn.
The disappointment in his voice could be heard, and Earlene's heart suddenly clogged up, as if a large stone had been pressed against it.
The atmosphere became somewhat oppressive.
After a while, Edgar spoke again, "Let's eat."
Earlene looked at him, her lips moved, but in the end she said nothing and lowered her head to continue eating the rest of the dish.
...
Edgar and Earlene walked out of the restaurant together.
"Are you going back to the office or the Institute?" Edgar turned his head to look at Earlene.
"Institute."
She was only halfway through her experiment and had to hurry to finish it, she had other things to do.
"Take care on the road then."
Edgar smiled at her and watched her walk to her car, until her car drove away and he guessed he withdrew his eyes and looked up at the blue sky, the corners of his mouth curling into a self-deprecating smile. He looked up at the blue sky with a self-deprecating smile on his lips. He was the one who should really let go of his feelings.
A sigh escaped his lips as he took a step towards the car.
Suddenly, a surprised voice came from behind himself. "Cousin."
He turned around and saw Eloise running towards him.
He raised both eyebrows, "What are you doing here?"
Eloise stopped in front of him and said with a smile, "I was out for a stroll with my brother-in-law and I just happened to see you." His mother was here too?
Edgar looked up and only then did he see his mother walking slowly over to him.
"Why are you guys hanging out here?"
There was no mall around here either, so what were they shopping for?
"Isn't the hospital nearby? After lunch, my brother-in-law wanted to say she'd come out for a walk, so I accompanied her out." Eloise explained.
As soon as Brimlad approached, Edgar asked, "Mum, are you up to something? Why else did you wander out here?"
He looked deep into Brimlad's eyes.
Brimlad defended, "What's the purpose of ...? Can't I just wander around?"
"Mum, that's the Bartram Group over there," Edgar pointed to the building not far away.
Eloise turned her head to look and realised that it was indeed the Bartram Group.
She hadn't noticed it the few times she'd passed by.
Suddenly, she understood what Edgar had meant by the question he had just asked.
"Aunt-in-law, you're drunk!" She looked at Brimlad with a wry smile.
Seeing that they had read her mind, Brimlad simply didn't hide it, "Yes, I just want to see Earlene, can't I?"
Edgar gave a helpless smile, "Yes, of course."
"That's not all." Brimlad gave him a blank look without a smile.
"Earlene's not at the office, she's gone to the Institute." Edgar said.
"So." Brimlad was a little disappointed, but soon she sensed that something was wrong.
She narrowed her eyes at Edgar, "How do you know she went to the Institute?"
"Because we just had dinner together."
At that, Brimlad was instantly pleased, "You had dinner together?"
"Yes."
Seeing his mother's mouth grinning with delight, Edgar was even more bemused, "Mum, we're just friends. And Earlene doesn't like me."
Eloise's eyes twinkled at the words "she doesn't like me" and she looked at Edgar and sighed inwardly.
Yes, it was Hector that Earlene liked.
"Then you try harder, she'll like you." Brimlad, who didn't know what was really going on, gave his son a pep talk.
Edgar was more frustrated than helpless.
"Auntie, don't get involved in your cousin's affairs, let them develop naturally." Eloise advised.
Brimlad nodded approvingly, "You're right, I can't get involved in young people's affairs."
She slapped Edgar on the back, "Don't you dare embarrass your mother."
"Mum." Edgar shook his head helplessly.
"Cousin, you go and get busy, I'll hang out with my brother-in-law again."
Eloise took Brimlad's arm affectionately.
"You guys be careful then."
"Got it."
Eloise waved her hand at him and pulled Brimlad away.
He watched them walk away before Edgar drove off.
Eloise turned back to see that Edgar's car was gone before she spoke up to persuade Brimlad, saying, "Auntie, actually, you shouldn't be in a hurry to try to set up your cousin and Earlene, there might be a better girl for your cousin than Earlene."
"Is that so?" Brimlad raised an eyebrow, "Do you have a suitable person to introduce?"
"I ..." Eloise choked and was at a loss for words.
Brimlad shook his head and lost his smile, "I wish there was a better girl than Earlene out there, but right now it's just Earlene and I can't help it."
"Actually Earlene ..." Eloise was tempted to tell her who Earlene really liked.
But the words came out of her mouth and she swallowed them back, it was better not to let her know about such things and save her the worry. "What's wrong with Earlene?" Brimlad asked.
Eloise laughed, "Nothing. I just think it's not sweet to be forced."
"Who said that." Brimlad patted her hand, "I'm sure Earlene will replace good in Edgar, it's only a matter of time."
Auntie Junior was really into Earlene.
Eloise smiled and didn't say anything else.
