Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1050: Backstabbing
When they got home in the evening, Brimlad mentioned that the old man was showing signs of waking up and Baggott and Edgar were pleasantly surprised. "Mum, is it true what you said?" Edgar asked uncertainly.
"Of course it's true, ask Eloise if you don't believe me."
Edgar turned his head to look at Eloise.
Eloise pursed her lips and said with particular seriousness, "Cousin, it's true. Grandpa's finger moved today and the doctor said he'll be awake soon."
When Baggott heard this, he said "Great" several times, and you could see his eyes were red.
Edgar's eyes were also moist at the corners and he took a deep breath to push back his tears, squeezed out a smile and said in a happy tone, "It's great that Grandpa is going to wake up."
"Edgar, you've got to get things sorted tomorrow so you don't let your grandfather down." Baggott said in a serious tone.
"Dad, I know."
For tomorrow, Edgar was confident that things would come to a successful conclusion.
Eloise clenched her fist, "Go for it, cousin."
Edgar smiled, "Yeah, I'll cheer."
The next day, the board meeting was held as scheduled.
The large meeting room was silent as everyone looked at each other, seemingly waiting for someone to start the meeting.
"Ahem!" Mr Cranshaw coughed lightly and his mid-range voice rang out in the meeting room, "We are all here today to get a satisfactory result, so later on, let's not be so heavy-handed and be more tolerant of Edgar, so as to give me, the old man, face."
From the beginning to the end, Mr Cranshaw was unconditionally on Edgar's side.
This made Edgar very grateful and he smiled at Mr Cranshaw, "Grandpa Cranshaw, thank you."
"Don't be in a hurry to thank me, I'll be the first to scold you if you don't give the group a satisfactory result today." Mr Cranshaw said with a scowl. Edgar nodded, "I know."
He then rose, looked around at everyone in the room and said in a loud voice, "We all know about the fire in the warehouse, but you don't know that on the night of the fire, a shipment of herbs was smuggled out of the warehouse." This statement shocked the room.
Mr Cranshaw looked at the others and was the first to question, "Edgar, what do you mean by that, what do you mean by a shipment of herbs being smuggled away?" "Grandpa Cranshaw, take your time and listen to what I have to say."
"Okay, go ahead."
So Edgar continued, "This is what I found out later on when I sent someone to investigate. The warehouse was on fire at the time, and it is true that most of the herbs were burned, but there were also those that were only half burned." "At the scene, we found that the One Piece Red and Western Ocimum, which were stored at the innermost part of the warehouse, were surprisingly burnt to the ground."
"You should know that the fire was burning from the outside to the inside, and the herbs adjacent to the Western Wutou were not burnt to the ground."
Someone noticed that something was wrong, "You mean to say that someone had moved the Yixian Hong and the Western Region Ebony Head before the fire started, is that what you mean?"
"Yes." Edgar nodded, "I did have the ashes from the fire scene tested and there was no western aconite or one pint of red."
"What's ... going on here?" Mr Cranshaw was totally surprised that this was the case.
Everyone else was also shocked and in total disbelief that things had turned out this way.
Edgar continued unhurriedly, "Some time ago, my cousin, also known as ArliceMr Arlice, privately signed a contract with a foreign SA group for the sale of medicinal herbs, and the herbs in the contract were none other than One Piece Red and Western Aconite."
This was like a heavy bombshell, shocking everyone in the audience speechless.
They had thought that there was an external thief, but they did not expect it to be an internal thief.
"Edgar, don't talk nonsense, do you have any proof?"
The question was asked by the shareholder on Arlice's side, who was looking very bad at the moment, and he was very worried that he was on the wrong side.
Edgar looked at him, slowly and methodically picked up the document on the table and said, "This is the export declaration, the declarant's name is Winchell, who, coincidentally, is Arlice's cousin's uncle." Then he took out his tape recorder and played the recording.
"That's right, it was Arlice who asked me to declare the export formalities for him ..."
Everyone listened with a look of disbelief.
"The recording ... recording couldn't have been made by someone to set Arlice up, could it?" Still the man was questioning.
Edgar raised an eyebrow, "If you don't believe me, I can bring the person in and confront them face to face."
Before the man could say anything else, Mr Cranshaw said, "No, that's not necessary. You get someone to bring Arlice in." "Good."
Edgar called Ivor in, "You get Mr Arlice and tell him to come into the conference room."
"Yes." Ivor took his orders and hurried off.
...
Meanwhile, Farabee was in his son's office, walking around like ants on a hot stove, agitated.
Arlice got annoyed, "Dad, will you stop? My head is spinning."
Farabee stepped on his feet and then walked up to him, "Arlice, aren't you in a hurry? The board meeting has already started by now."
"What's the point of rushing when it's time to come."
Arlice thought he would be upset, but strangely enough, he was calm.
There was indeed nothing to be upset about, they had already thought of a way to deal with it.
Farabee sighed, "You're right, what comes around must come around."
As soon as the words left his mouth, there was a sudden knock on the door, followed by his secretary's voice, "Vice President, Mr. Ivor wants you in the conference room, the president wants to see you." Arlice curled his lips, "Dad, here it is."
He straightened his suit and lifted his chin, "Dad, let's go."
With those words, he took the lead and walked out.
Farabee shook her head and sighed as she hurried after him.
As soon as he left the office, he saw Ivor looking at himself with an expressionless face.
Arlice smiled, "Mr. Ivor, it's hard for you to make this trip."
"Vice President, please." Ivor made a gesture of invitation.
Arlice curbed his smile, his face sank, and he strode towards the lift.
When he reached the door of the conference room, Arlice stopped abruptly.
Seeing this, Ivor raised his eyebrows slightly, "Vice President, what's wrong with you?"
"Nothing." Arlice reached out and pushed the door open.
For a moment, all eyes were on him.
He took a step towards Edgar.
"Cousin." Edgar looked at him with a big smile.
Arlice stops in front of him.
The two men stared at each other.
"I've brought my father here to admit his mistake." Arlice spoke.
At that, Edgar's smile instantly disappeared and his brow locked, and before he could open his mouth to ask what was going on, he saw Farabee rush in.
Farabee took a few big steps and threw herself on her knees in front of him, slapping herself in the face as she said, "Edgar, it's all my fault, it's all my fault that I got carried away and did something that hurt the company, you can blame me if you want to."
Edgar was a bit confused by the suddenness of the situation.
Mr Cranshaw, who had been through a lot, calmly asked, "Edgar, what are you doing?"
