Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1122: Don't want to be just your friend
Rowson waited until it was dark and Curry didn't show up.
He pressed on and called Katerina on the phone.
"Where are you?" As soon as he got through, Katerina's impatient questioning came over the line. "Outside the Institute."
"Rowson, have you lost your mind?" Katerina's voice rose an octave, "What the hell are you trying to do?"
Rowson stared at the closed doors of the Institute and asked in a hushed voice, "Is Curry in the Institute?"
"Does it mean anything if he's there or not?" Feeling like she was driving him mad, Katerina took a deep breath and continued, "You've promised to come over and I won't see Eloise again, so there's no need for you to help her." As if he hadn't heard her, Rowson asked himself, "Does Curry usually come out of the Institute? Or is it the same as before, never setting a step outside the Institute?"
"You!" Katerina was so angry she couldn't speak for a moment.
"I need you to tell me the answer."
"I need you" again, Katerina smoothed her hair in annoyance, "Fine, I'll tell you, Professor Curry won't show up, you'll wait until you're dead and he won't show up." At that, Rowson frowned, "He's not at the Institute?"
If Curry wasn't at this Institute, then where could he be?
Whirling around, it occurred to him that something wasn't right, George was at this Institute, which would prove that Curry was there too.
"Catherine, is Curry here or not?"
This time Katerina didn't answer him, but said, "I'm outside your flat."
With that, she simply hung up the phone.
Rowson took the phone off and stared at the blacked out screen for a moment before starting the car and leaving.
...
Katerina stood by the car and saw a car approaching from a distance, and narrowed her eyes.
As soon as the car was parked, she walked over to it.
Rowson opened the door and got out.
"Do you want to die?" Katerina asked in a low voice.
Rowson looked at her, his dark eyes as still as water, without a ripple.
Katerina suddenly realised that he probably didn't care about his own life.
Instead, she was caring for him, worrying about him.
There was something self-serving about it.
"Where's Curry?" Rowson asked.
Katerina snorted, "After all this, you still can't let go of that Eloise."
"Like I said, I owe it to her."
"Owed to her?" Katerina couldn't help but laugh, the irony in her smile, "Maybe you won't feel like you owe her until you're dead." "If my life can be exchanged for her safety, I will gladly do so."
At those words, Katerina felt like a large stone was weighing down on her heart, and it was hard.
She lowered her head, the smile on her lips a little more rueful, "So you love her so much."
Rowson didn't want to talk to her about it, so he changed the subject and repeated the question, "Is Curry at the Institute or not?" "Yes."
Katerina looked up abruptly, her sharp gaze directed at him, "Even if he is, what can you do about it? After what happened last time, not even a fly will be able to get in the Institute now."
Rowson's expression sank; if that was true, he wouldn't be able to get anywhere near Curry on his own, let alone get what he wanted.
Seeing his face change, Katerina laughed out, a smile that didn't reach her icy eyes, "Rowson, I'd advise you not to antagonise Bergerian. He was kind enough to give you a pass last time, but he won't be so lucky next time." She really didn't understand how much more he had to give up for that Eloise woman.
Was it true that there was no life left before he would stop.
Rowson didn't make a sound, but stared deeply at her.
Having known him for so long, she could already tell what was going on in his mind.
She smiled to herself, "Rowson, to you, am I just a tool that can help you?"
"No, you're my friend." Rowson said.
"Friend?" Katerina laughed, then stared straight at him and spoke with exceptional clarity, word by word, "But I don't want to be just your friend."
Rowson's eyebrows twitched as Edwina's thin lips parted, "I'm not going to fall for anyone else."
The words were like a pot of cold water pouring down on her head, chilling her to the bone and quenching all thoughts.
She nodded, "Okay, you won't like anyone else. Then I won't help you either."
With that, she turned and walked towards her car.
She walked very slowly on purpose, thinking he would catch up and beg for himself.
But there was no movement at all behind her.
Finally it was she who could not resist, turned around and yelled at Rowson, who was still standing still, "Rowson, you bastard!" She had made it so clear, why didn't he get it?
Rowson frowned and lifted a step over to her, stopping his feet in front of her, his eyes fixed on her.
"Will you help me?" He asked.
Katerina averted her face from his gaze and closed her eyes, hiding the sadness in them, the hands at her side slowly clenching.
There was silence around her, only the sound of the wind blowing past her ears.
Rowson didn't force her, he sighed softly, "Forget it, I'll figure it out myself."
With that, he turned to leave.
Suddenly, his wrist was grabbed and he looked down at the hand that had grabbed his wrist before turning back to meet a pair of eyes that were covered with a chill. "I'll help you." Katerina said, her voice without a hint of emotion.
Rowson raised an eyebrow in surprise, "Are you sure?"
"I have conditions."
"You name it."
There shouldn't be a worse condition than not being able to see Eloise.
"This is the last time I help you, I won't help from now on, and you can't think about saving Eloise."
Rowson frowned, "Katerina, is that condition too much?"
If he couldn't save Eloise, then there was no point in him living.
"I'll get you the core of Professor Curry's research this time, and I think that's enough to save Eloise's life."
This time, she made sure to cut him off from all thoughts of Eloise.
Rowson was silent, thinking hard about whether to agree to her terms.
"Just so you know, you won't get the core information without me." Katerina added.
Rowson nodded, "I can promise you that, but you have to do one more thing for me."
Katerina perked up at that, "Rowson, don't you dare get ahead of yourself!"
"As long as you help me with these two things, I'll agree to anything you say."
Katerina stared at him intently, as if considering whether his words were credible.
After a long moment, she nodded, "Okay, go ahead."
Rowson curled his lips slowly, "I want to know if Earlene and Hector have left Italy? And, where did they go?" Katerina couldn't help but smile, "Rowson, you know how to make the most of what you have!"
Neither of those things were easy for her.
"I believe you."
Katerina turned around, "Wait for my message."
Watching her car leave, Rowson let out a long sigh of relief, hoping that the news he waited for was good.
