Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1164: A Glimmer of Hope

"You're not taking her away?" Rupert looked at Bergerian suspiciously.

He didn't quite believe Bergerian's words.

Bergerian gave him a cold glance and turned around, "Believe it or not."

With that, he walked over to the bench and sat down, looking up at the operating theatre.

Rupert and Thomas looked at each other, despite what Bergerian had said, they didn't dare to take it lightly, who knew if the other man was deliberately trying to fool them. "Mr Rupert, why don't you sit and wait too?" Thomas pointed to the seat next to Bergerian's and said to Rupert.

Rupert shook his head, "That's not necessary."

The operation took over two hours to finish and the moment the operating theatre door opened, Rupert, Thomas and Bergerian were immediately greeted.

The doctor stepped out, startled by the three men rushing over to him, and subconsciously took a step back.

"Doctor, how is my sister-in-law?" Rupert asked anxiously.

"The shot was just about two centimetres away from the heart, which is unfortunate." The doctor said as he removed his mask.

"The wounded man has lost too much blood, and after our resuscitation, he is out of danger and can be sent to the ward after a little more observation." At the doctor's words, the three big men let out a huge sigh of relief.

"Thank you, Doctor." Rupert thanked the doctor.

"It's what we should do." The doctor turned and went back into the operating room.

Eloise was brought to the ward before the anaesthetic had worn off and she was still unconscious.

Her face was as pale as paper because of the loss of blood, and there was no blood at all.

It was hard for Rupert to think that she had been laughing and joking with herself just a few hours before.

"Sister-in-law, I'm sorry, I was too careless to let you get hurt like this." Rupert blamed himself.

They were all so happy that Aisly had added a new member to the Rogers family that they had forgotten to protect her.

His brother would not have spared him if he had known.

"Mr Rupert, you mustn't blame yourself, it's me who is to blame." Thomas looked at Eloise in the hospital bed with a look of remorse.

Rupert turned sideways and raised his hand to pat his shoulder, "Well, we are both to blame."

Following this, he turned his head to look at Bergerian, "Of course, he's more to blame."

At those words, Thomas turned his head too, his gaze falling on Bergerian's expressionless face, his brow furrowing slightly, "Mr Bergerian, I still want you to stay away from my Miss Eloise, or better yet, give her up." Bergerian lifted his eyes, his gaze warmless, his thin lips parted, "I need her for my research."

"Then you may be disappointed." Rupert said, "The virus in my sister-in-law's body has been contained and will soon be eradicated, so there is no way you can use her to experiment with the drugs you have developed." Bergerian wrinkled his brow, "What do you mean?"

"The meaning is clear: the virus in her body has been slowly killed."

"Impossible!" Bergerian shook his head, "Not unless you have researched a drug to deal with the virus."

The complexity of the virus was not something that could be studied so easily.

Even Professor Curry had taken a lot of time to get the virus right.

Not to mention working out a drug to deal with the virus.

Rupert laughed, "Mr Bergerian, don't think of others as useless, you have world class scientists, we have them too, no less than you."

"No way, no how." Bergerian looked over to Eloise in the hospital bed and shook his head repeatedly, still not believing what Rupert was saying.

"Mr Bergerian, it's understandable that you want to use living people for experiments, but have you ever thought about how terrible the virus is, my family Miss Eloise would have died of a seizure if she hadn't been kept under control with medication."

Speaking of this, Thomas was indignant.

How much the Prince and Miss Eloise had suffered just for this virus.

Bergerian gave them a look and said coldly, "I don't believe you, so I will have someone come and check her body to see if the virus is still there."

When Rupert heard this, his heart tightened; he had just said that, just to dispel the idea that Bergerian was going to use his sister-in-law for experiments.

But in fact the virus was still there.

If it was found to be still there, then his sister-in-law would certainly not be spared from being taken back to Italy.

He exchanged a glance with Thomas, raised his eyebrows and said calmly, "Bergerian, whether the virus is still there or not, this is none of your business. Please get the hell out of here right now, immediately!" Bergerian's brow was furrowed and he stared at him with a displeased expression.

Rupert hooked his lips, "This isn't Italy, it's not your call."

The implication was that this was the Rogers family's territory, not Bergerian's.

Bergerian narrowed his eyes, even though he was upset, he had to put up with it, because Rupert was right, this was not Italy.

If he confronted the Rogers family head on, he would be the one to lose out.

He looked at Eloise in the hospital bed and said in a deep voice, "Sofía, I will come back to see you some other time."

After saying this, he swept a cold glance at Rupert and Thomas as he walked away.

Thomas hurried to follow them and watched them enter the lift before turning back to the ward and closing the door behind him. "Mr Rupert, Bergerian can't give up that easily." Thomas said.

Rupert nodded, "I know. We must be on heightened alert and vigilant, we must not let what happened today happen again."

He looked deeply at Thomas and continued, "Otherwise neither of us will be able to answer to my brother."

Thomas smiled bitterly, "To be honest I'd still rather be chastised by the prince than not know where he is."

"Don't feel bad, I'm sure my brother will be back soon." Rupert patted his shoulder soothingly.

It was obvious that he, the younger brother, should be the one who was having the hardest time, but he didn't expect him to comfort his brother's assistant instead. Rupert couldn't help but shake his head and laugh, looking a little helpless.

"Mr Rupert, what's the situation with AlmeidaSener?" Thomas asked.

Rupert's brow furrowed slightly, "Almeida told me the other day that the drug is almost ready to be researched, but they can't guarantee it will work against the virus and ..."

He paused, his voice taking on more than a hint of concern, "And there's a fear that the drug will have a lot of side effects. Once the side effects are too great, they're afraid that with my sister-in-law's current body, she won't be able to handle it." "So... you guys aren't going to let Miss Eloise try it?"

"It's time to try it, otherwise the virus will strike and there will be consequences."

Thomas nodded, "I agree. I think the prince would agree too if he was around."

"That's true." Rupert took a deep breath, "My brother always says to try as long as there is a glimmer of hope, even if you fail, you can learn from the experience and make adjustments, it will always work."

"Mr Rupert, it seems you have not been taught much by the prince." Thomas said jokingly.

Rupert shrugged, "Who wasn't."

Regardless, the medicine had to be tried, otherwise things would be even more problematic if Bergerian's side learned that the virus was still in his sister-in-law's body.
