Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1174: Taking the long view
Eloise cried.
She didn't know how many nights she had woken up with nightmares about Hector leaving her, but she didn't dare to talk about it for fear that her family and friends would worry, so she had to suffer in silence. When she heard the news about Hector, it was as if she had found an outlet for her sorrows and wanted to let them out.
Edgar sat quietly beside her, keeping her company and giving her silent comfort.
Eloise lifted her head and took the tissue handed to her by Edgar to wipe her tears.
She took a deep breath, "Cousin, how did you get the news?"
Her voice was a little hoarse because she had just cried.
Edgar took out his phone, tapped on the photo and held it out to her, "The man I sent out got a shot of Hector." Eloise hurriedly grabbed the phone and looked at it carefully, her eyes widening abruptly.
"It's Hector!"
She exclaimed, pointing to the figure in the corner of the photo in excitement.
"Still you have good eyes, you saw him right away." It occurred to Edgar that he still had to zoom in to see Hector. "Where is he?" Eloise asked.
"J country."
Eloise frowned, "Before I went back to City J, I think you guys said you'd found Rawlins travelling to and from J a lot recently, right?"
"Well, we also found out that he was going to Yamaguchi Gang, an underground group in Singapore."
"Yamaguchi Gang? A gangster organisation?"
Eloise's heart couldn't help but lift, if Hector was under the control of a gangster group, then they were afraid it wouldn't be good to save him.
"It used to be, now it's not, it's just that there's still a certain amount of power in place, if we go ahead and rescue someone, we might get into trouble." "Then what should we do?"
They couldn't just leave Hector there all the time.
Edgar patted her shoulder and said reassuringly, "Don't worry, we'll replace a way to save them. It's just that this has to be a long term plan."
"I know. I'm just worried that Hector isn't doing well there."
Edgar couldn't help but lose his smile, "Eloise, you're overthinking it, how can Hector not have a good time with Earlene there?"
"I don't trust Earlene," Eloise felt the urge to slap herself at the mention of the woman.
If she hadn't genuinely thought of people as friends in the first place, none of this bad stuff would have happened later.
There was nothing to regret.
"Don't worry, she likes Hector so much, surely she won't hurt Hector."
Eloise was silent for a few seconds before she spoke, "Make sure you tell me what your plans are, I don't want to be kept in the dark again." Edgar smiled and nodded in agreement, "Yes, we'll tell you all about it."
"What are you guys talking about?"
A sudden voice startled Eloise and Edgar, they looked around to see it was Hector's mother and hurriedly both stood up.
"Hello, auntie."
Hector's mother smiled, "Hello."
Then she wrinkled her nose, "What were you talking about, what's wrong with Hector?"
Eloise and Edgar looked at each other and shook their heads busily, "Nothing, just that Hector's been away for so long he doesn't know when he'll be back." "Not true." Hector's mother shook her head, "I clearly heard you guys talking about gangsters and saving people, something must have happened to Hector." In the face of Hector's mother's questioning, Eloise bit her lip, hesitating to tell her the truth.
Seeing that they were both silent, Hector's mother became anxious, "Eloise, tell me, what's going on?"
"Mum, take it easy for a moment." Eloise stepped forward, intending to help her, but when she raised her hand she accidentally tugged on her shoulder. "Mmm!" She grunted and her eyebrows furrowed.
Hector's mother didn't bother to ask about Hector's condition and asked anxiously, "Does it hurt again?"
Eloise smiled and shook her head, "I just pulled it accidentally, it's fine."
"A wound?" Edgar looked at them both in confusion, "What kind of wound?"
Oh no!
She'd forgotten to tell her cousin about it.
Eloise tugged awkwardly at the corner of her mouth, "It's just... it's ..."
Before she could say it clearly, Hector's mother spoke up for her, "She got a bullet in her shoulder and was just released from the hospital."
"A bullet?" Edgar looked over at Eloise, confusion written all over his face.
"Got accidentally hit by a mugger shooting on the road." Hector's mother explained.
Edgar saw Eloise scowling at him and he nodded in realization, "So that's what happened. If I hadn't come today, I'm afraid you wouldn't have told me, would you?" He asked Eloise.
Eloise smiled awkwardly, "Wasn't I afraid you'd be worried?"
"So I'm not worried now that I know?" Edgar shot her an uncomfortable glare.
Eloise spat out her tongue, "I'm sorry, I'll be sure to tell you later."
"Later? Do you want to run into thugs later?"
"No."
Edgar laughed helplessly, "How's the wound?"
"Actually it's almost healed, I just pulled it by accident." Eloise smiled, "I'm fine, don't worry about it."
With her interruption, Hector's mother calmed down, "Eloise, tell me what's wrong with Hector?"
Eloise laughed bitterly, "Mum, how can you still remember?"
"Of course I remember, that's my son."
Hector's mother had said that, and Eloise couldn't hide it from her.
"Sit down, Mum, and I'll tell you."
When Hector's mother sat down beside her, Eloise looked at Edgar before speaking slowly, "Actually, Hector is not on a business trip, but ..." Hector's mother frowned, "What is it?"
"Disappearance."
As soon as the words came out, Hector's mother rose up in a misty voice and glared down at Eloise, "What did you say? ... Hector is missing?"
"Mom, take it easy, listen to me." Eloise pulled her down and continued, "It's not exactly missing, it was taken by a woman and hidden away."
"But my cousin has found someone." Eloise said, casting a pleading look at Edgar, who took it in stride and picked up where she left off, "Yes, Auntie, we now know where Hector is." Hector's mother locked her brow, "No, why am I getting confused, what's this about missing, what's this about hiding, what's going on?"
Eloise sighed, "Mum, since you didn't get it then forget it, just know that Hector will be home soon, that's all."
"When is soon?" Hector's mother asked.
"Auntie, you have to trust us, we will bring Hector back safely." Edgar assured.
Hector's mother shook her head and sighed, "It's really wrong of you to hide such an important matter from me."
"Mum, we were afraid you wouldn't be able to bear it." Eloise put her arm around her shoulders and whispered.
"I'm not as fragile as you guys think, that Hector kid has never let me worry since he was a kid, it's so hard to let me worry for once, and you guys are still hiding it from me."
At that, Eloise couldn't help but laugh at how things were going differently than she had thought.
