Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1240: I'll stay away from her from now on
Eloise returned to her room and sat depressed on the edge of her bed, reflecting on everything that had just happened and letting out a long sigh of relief. Luckily there had been a scare.
Otherwise, being thrown out of the Bartram family would have made it really difficult for her to see Hector in the future.
But what had she done to Earlene to make her think of such a way to get rid of her?
After thinking about it, she couldn't figure it out, so she just assumed Earlene didn't like her.
Seeing that Eloise had compromised and gone back to her room, Earlene was a little upset but said nothing more and tried to go upstairs when Rawlins stopped her. "Earlene, why are you doing this?"
Earlene drew her hand back and turned her head, quenching her cold gaze at him, her red lips parted, "I hate her, is that a good reason?"
Rawlins tugged at the corners of his lips, his expression helpless, "Of course it does, but I don't believe it's that simple."
Earlene lowered her head and sneered, "I simply hate her, believe it or not."
With those words, she walked briskly up the stairs and soon, her figure disappeared from Rawlins' sight.
Rawlins withdrew his eyes and sighed heavily, it looked like there would be no peace in the house from now on.
Back in her room, Earlene threw the necklace heavily into the jewellery box.
The sound was loud enough to startle Hector, who was leaning over the bed reading a book.
He looked up at Earlene standing in front of the dresser and asked, with a slight frown on his face, "What's wrong?"
At the sound of his voice, Earlene turned around and met his concerned eyes, and the restlessness in her heart lightened.
She walked over and sat down in front of him, gazing at him tenderly, her mouth curving, "Hector, will you ever leave me?"
"Why are you asking that all of a sudden?" Hector asked softly as he tied the strands of hair around her cheeks and behind her ears. Earlene took his hand and pressed it against her cheek, "I'm suddenly afraid that you'll leave me."
It was fear that made her think of getting rid of Elo.
Because the woman's eyes really did look like Eloise's.
She was afraid that if he saw Elo a lot, sooner or later he would think of Eloise and remember his past.
More than that, she was afraid that when he thought about it, he would hate her.
"No, I won't leave you." Hector smiled as he said this, and suddenly the sultry look in Eloise's eyes came to mind.
The smile froze abruptly and he frowned fiercely, raising his hand to cover his chest.
Why did it hurt here?
Earlene noticed that something was wrong with him and rushed to ask, "Hector, what's wrong with you?"
Hector took a moment to slow down before shaking his head gently and smiling back, "Nothing."
"Really?"
His face was clearly all wrong, it didn't look like he was fine in any way.
"Really." Hector rubbed her head and whispered, "Stop imagining things and go to your room and get some rest."
Earlene looked at the other half of the bed, hesitated and asked in a small voice, "Hector, I'll stay with you tonight, okay?"
"No." Hector refused without thinking, "We're not married yet, I don't want you to be aggravated."
"I'm not aggravated at all."
As far as Earlene was concerned, she couldn't wait for the relationship to go further.
But he had his own insistence, and all these days he wouldn't touch her no matter what, saying he respected her and was protecting her.
If he hadn't had that past, she would have been really touched and felt that he was treating her with care.
But things were different now, and she was uneasy, and even his presence around her felt unreal, as if he would disappear if she wasn't careful.
"Earlene, I know what you're afraid of, but I don't want to remove the fear from your heart in such a way that it's not fair to you."
Seeing him so set in his ways, Earlene gave up and got up, angry and helpless, "You can be indifferent when a beautiful woman throws herself at you." Hector laughed and said nothing.
As Earlene walked to the door, she suddenly thought of something and turned back to explain, "In future, if you see that Elo, you'd better stay away from her." "Why?" Hector asked suspiciously.
"Because... she's not a good person."
"Bad character?" Hector didn't understand what she meant.
"She stole my necklace."
"No way!" Hector blurted straight out.
After saying that, he froze.
How could he say something like that?
Earlene froze too, but quickly reacted, depicting a light frown on her delicate brows, "Hector, do you know her, how can you be sure she couldn't have stolen the necklace?" "I ..." Hector didn't know how to explain for a moment.
He couldn't always say that it just didn't seem like Elo would steal it.
Earlene stepped closer to him and said, one word distinctly, "I don't care what your reason for saying 'impossible' is, but I want you to stay away from her in the future." "Good." Hector nodded in agreement, "I'll stay away from her in future."
If that would reassure her, then he would do as he was told.
Earlene gave a satisfied smile, "I trust you."
With that, she turned and left.
Hector was left alone in the room, he walked over to the bed and sat down, his sword brow furrowed.
He hadn't figured out how he'd just blurted out "no way".
It felt as if he believed Elo.
Irritated by the thought, he stood up and strode out of the room.
Eloise tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and finally sat up from the bed in annoyance.
Forget it, I'm not going to sleep.
She got out of bed, slipped on her slippers and walked out of the room.
The villa was quiet, everyone was resting in their rooms, and Eloise walked gingerly to the backyard, where she found the last bench and sat down.
There was silence all around, so quiet that you could hear the insects chirping.
She looked up at the sky and was surprised to replace a few stars. The corners of her mouth couldn't help but rise and she said to herself, "Good luck, you can still look at the stars."
The irritation in her heart seemed to have miraculously disappeared in this moment.
She slowly closed her eyes and felt the peace of the moment.
Suddenly, the sound of soft footsteps rang in her ears.
Eyes oozing open, she turned her head, only to see a tall figure walking up to her.
Tilting her head, a familiar face fell into her eyes.
A delighted smile instantly spilled over her entire little face, "What are you doing here too?"
Hector smiled helplessly, "I couldn't sleep."
"What a coincidence, I couldn't sleep either." Eloise moved to the side and patted the chair, "You sit too."
Hector sat down and took a deep breath, inclining his head to look at her, "Why couldn't you sleep?"
Eloise pursed her lips, "Something happened and I was upset, so I couldn't sleep."
Hector knew what she was talking about and after a moment of silence asked, "Can you tell me what's going on?"
"It's not good for you to know."
Eloise was thinking that even if she told him, with how much he trusted Earlene, he would just think it was her who had stolen Earlene's necklace.
