Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1263: Taking a step back
"It's not right anywhere!" Brimlad was partly angry and decided at once: "No, you must break up with Edwina."
The marriage between the Khan family and the Boone family was already well known and had been negotiated between the two parties; it was not something he could cancel just by saying no. "There's no way we're breaking up." Edgar said, "Edwina and I like each other and since we decided to stay together, we won't break up."
"What about Elva? What about Elva?" Brimlad questioned angrily.
Edgar was silent.
He hadn't actually thought about how to talk to the Boone Family about it.
And he knew that if he told the Boone Family, the two families might fall out.
"You can't say it, can you?" Brimlad laughed angrily, "The only way you're going to solve this is if you break up with Edwina!"
"No, we won't. Mum, you're done with that." Edgar's attitude was firm and non-negotiable.
Brimlad stared at him, wanting to go up and crack his head open to see what was in it.
Elva and Edwina.
Anyone with a brain would know who to choose.
But he had chosen Edwina, a woman who would not help him, but might even cause him problems.
No, she could never let him be confused.
"We're going to the Boone Family now, we have to get this over with today."
Brimlad pulled him out, despite Edgar's objections.
Baggott returned just in time to see the scene and, with a frown, raised his eyebrows and asked out loud, "What are you doing?" "Baggott, you're back at last."
Seeing Baggott, Brimlad was like seeing a saviour and immediately let go of Edgar and greeted him.
"What's wrong?" Seeing how anxious she seemed, Baggott's inquired with concern.
"What else can be wrong? I'm getting pissed off at that brat." Brimlad said angrily, pointing at Edgar.
Edgar immediately barked, "Mum, I didn't mean to be angry with you, I told you so."
"Told me?" Brimlad laughed, "Told me what? That there was absolutely no way you would agree to the union?"
At that, Baggott looked to Edgar and asked, "Edgar, is it true what your mother said?"
Edgar nodded, "Well, it's true."
"Why don't you agree?" Baggott asked again.
"Because ..." Edgar hesitated, "Dad, I've got someone I like."
Baggott looked at him quietly, his expression becoming serious.
...
Edgar followed his father into the study.
After the door closed, Baggott opened the door and asked, "Who is that girl?"
"Edwina."
Baggott frowned, "Why does that name sound a bit familiar?"
"She's been to our house, she's a friend of Eloise's."
"Have I met her?"
"No. You didn't happen to be home when she came."
Baggott nodded, "What was the character of that person?"
"She was very nice, very kind."
At the mention of Edwina, a sweet smile spread across Edgar's face.
Baggott's eyes deepened a little, he could see that his son liked the girl called Edwina very much.
If it were before, he might have agreed.
But not now.
"Edgar, do you remember what you said when you took over the reins of the Khan Group?" Baggott asked.
"Remember. I said I would never fail to live up to the expectations my grandfather had of me."
Baggott smiled gratefully, "That's good to remember. But do you ever feel that what you're doing now isn't right?" Edgar froze.
He knew his father meant his relationship with Edwina.
As far as his parents were concerned, Elva was the perfect choice for his wife.
No, more accurately, it would be the best choice for the Khan family's daughter-in-law.
"Dad, have you guys ever thought that I could actually run the Khan Group on my own?" Edgar asked tentatively.
"I've thought about it." Baggott smiled, "But your mother and I don't want you to work too hard. We want you to have fewer obstacles in your way to success."
"So you guys just want me to marry Elva?"
"Edgar, we're all doing this for your own good." Baggott patted him on the shoulder.
Edgar laughed, a little sarcastically, "Dad, you're forcing me to do something I don't want to do under the guise of doing what's best for me."
He paused, "Aren't you guys afraid that Elva and I won't be happy in marriage?"
"I know you don't like Elva right now, but feelings can be nurtured." Baggott said.
"It can't be." Edgar shook his head, "There's no way I could like her."
Baggott frowned, "Edgar, are you going to be so stubborn?"
"Dad, I'm not stubborn, I just know my own heart very well."
Seeing that he couldn't be persuaded, Baggott gave up, "Fine, you're my son. I'll replace a way around the union, but tonight we'll go to the Boone Family, Elva has fainted because of you and we should go and see her." Edgar didn't expect his father to compromise so easily and happily agreed to his request. "I'll go downstairs then."
After Edgar had gone out, Baggott's expression slowly sank.
He knew his son's nature well enough that it would be counterproductive to play hardball with him.
It would be better to go along with him and back off before trying to work out a solution to his affair with the girl.
...
Edgar came to the Boone Family with his parents.
Elva's parents don't give Edgar a good look when they see him.
Elva's mother said grimly, "I thought you had forgotten about my Elva. That's right, how can anyone who doesn't care remember."
Baggott and Brimlad inevitably felt a little uncomfortable, but said, "I'm sorry, we didn't teach Edgar well enough for this to happen." When they said this, Elva's parents' faces lightened up a little.
Brimlad asked smoothly, "How is Elva?"
"Low blood sugar caused the fainting spell, but she's fine now, resting in bed." Elva's mother said.
"Let's go up and have a look."
So the group went upstairs.
Elva was sitting on the bed, swiping her phone, when there was a knock on the door.
Frightened, she hurriedly hid her phone under her pillow.
"Elva, your Uncle Edgar and the others are here to see you, and Edgar is here too."
At the sound of Edgar coming too, Elva's eyes lit up and she hurried to lie down.
Elva's mother pushed open the door and a group of people walked in.
Brimlad walked quickly to the bedside and was distressed to see Elva's frail appearance, "Silly child, how can you not eat when you are angry again? Auntie will really feel bad inside when you hurt your body like that." "Auntie, I'm sorry." Guilt was written all over Elva's face.
"Child, it's not your fault, you don't need to apologise. It's someone else who should apologise."
At that, Brimlad turned his head to Edgar and said, "Why are you standing so far away? Why don't you come and see Elva?"
Edgar opened his mouth to refuse, but seeing the look his father was casting, he walked over.
