Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1277: Why did you lie to me

"President, something's happened!"

Ivor ran into the president's office with the tablet in hand.

Edgar locked his eyebrows, put down the file and reprimanded unhappily, "What's so urgent?"

"President, look." Ivor couldn't be bothered to explain and handed him the tablet straight away.

Edgar took it, and the image on the screen happened to be Elva rushing towards Edwina with a broken bottle.

He pulled the video progress bar forward and watched the entire video in its entirety.

"What's going on here?" After watching it, he looked cold to the core.

Ivor returned truthfully, "This is the video that suddenly appeared on the internet and now the whole internet is talking about it and ..."

He looked embarrassed as he tried to speak, making Edgar more and more annoyed and ordered, "And what? Tell me!"

"The internet is full of words cursing Miss. Edwina, it's hard to hear, even unpleasant."

As soon as Edgar heard that, he immediately looked at the comments of the video.

As expected, they were all abusing Edwina.

"This mistress is so cheap, she deserves to be beaten up for ruining someone's relationship."

"That's the way it has to be done, mistresses these days are shameless, she should be taught a hard lesson."

"The mistress just has a guilty face, if it were me, I would have torn her face apart."

...

There were worse, and Edgar couldn't bear to look down and simply snapped the tablet back onto his desk.

He calmed himself down before saying in a deep voice, "Immediate PR, take care of this."

"Yes." Ivor led the way and hurried away.

Edgar remembered that Edwina's hand had indeed been injured.

And she had told him that it had been accidentally burned.

If it hadn't been for this video, he wouldn't have known that Elva had gone to her, and even hurt her.

This fool, to have kept something so serious from him.

He was so distraught at the thought of it that he could no longer read the file, got up and walked out of the office.

...

Edwina returned home, walked to the living room and sat down, her mind going back to the questions the media had asked. "Miss. Edwina, did you seduce Edgar?"

"Have you ever thought that you are just a mistress in the shadows and a single mother, there is no way the Khan family would accept you, or are you just asking for money?" "Miss. Edwina, with all the fuss this has made, have you thought about what to do about it? Should you break up with Edgar or continue to stick with this unseen relationship?" Their every word was like a thorn in her heart.

It was hard.

It wasn't at all what they knew, but she had only one mouth to feed and no explanation, and she could only let it get worse and worse on the internet.

You don't have to look online to see how badly the internet is calling her out.

But what they forgot was that Elva had hurt her.

This society already has a very low tolerance for mistresses, and she happened to be mistaken for one.

So what she is suffering now is normal.

It was just that...

She lifted her hands to cover her face, feeling like a big stone was pressing down on her heart, so hard she couldn't breathe.

She didn't care what people said about her, only how her relationship with Edgar would continue.

As long as the marriage between the Khan and Boone families was not cancelled, they would both be scorned by the world, as in this case.

They had been together for so long, and she really couldn't give up.

She was at a loss as to what to do when the phone rang, startling her.

It was Edgar.

She picked it up, "Edgar."

Edgar was driving to the restaurant and as soon as he heard her voice ringing in his ear, he asked, "Are you all right?"

Her frightened heart slowly calmed as the sound of his voice fell into her ears.

She Edwina smiled, "I'm fine. How about you?"

Edgar would ask that, assuming that he already knew about what had happened online.

The netizens had not only scolded her, they had scolded him too.

After all, to the netizens, he was a scum bag, and the scolding was no less severe than hers.

"I'm fine too." Edgar asked as he turned the wheel, "Are you at the restaurant?"

"No, I'm going home."

At that Edgar slammed on the brakes and pulled to the side of the road, "What's going on?"

Shouldn't she be at work at this hour?

"Some media came to the restaurant to interview me and it affected the normal operation of the restaurant, the manager let me take a few days off." Edwina didn't say anything about her suspension, not wanting him to worry about herself.

"The media just loves to rub it in." Edgar frowned, thinking that he would contact Ivor later and ask him to sort out the media as well.

"I know." Edwina smiled to herself, "After all, I'm hotter than some celebrities these days."

Isn't the mistress of the Khan Group's CEO more popular than a celebrity?

Hearing her self-deprecation, Edgar was heartbroken and said, "I'll come and get you."

"No, I'll be fine." Edwina didn't want his work to be affected by her.

"Be good and stay at home and wait for me."

With those words, Edgar hung up the phone and restarted, driving towards the neighbourhood where Edwina lived.

Edwina put the phone down, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips, and somewhere in her heart, she seemed much more at peace. After about twenty minutes or so, the doorbell rang.

Edwina rushed over to open the door, and as soon as she did, she saw Edgar standing outside the door.

She smiled unconsciously.

Edgar frowned slightly, "What are you smiling at?"

"Nothing. Just happy to see you."

Edwina stepped aside and let him in.

The moment the door closed, Edgar wrapped an arm around her waist and took her into his arms.

"I'm sorry to have put you through this." He whispered against her ear.

The voice was full of apologies.

All those pointed questions from the media hadn't made her cry, but because of his words, she cried instantly.

The sobs rang out and Edgar was even more distressed, holding her close as if he wanted to embed her into his body.

The two held each other in silence for who knows how long before Edwina's emotions eased.

"Are you in a better mood?"

Edgar asked softly as he stroked his palm through her long, soft hair.

"Yeah." Edwina answered sullenly.

Edgar let go of her and grabbed one of her hands, rolling the sleeve of his shirt up to reveal the gauzed wound.

Heartache was written all over his handsome face, "Why did you lie to me?"

"I'm sorry." Edwina whispered her apology.

Edgar looked up, the corners of his mouth lifting in a helpless smile, "Edwina, I don't want to hear you apologise. I just want to know why you didn't tell me the truth at the time?" "Because..." Edwina pursed her lips, "I didn't want to worry you."

"But aren't I more worried now?" Edgar sighed lightly, "Edwina, since we chose to be together, there should be nothing hidden between us."

Edwina bit her lip and didn't say anything.

Afraid that she might feel guilty, Edgar added, "I'm not blaming you. You're my girlfriend, it's my duty to protect you, and I shouldn't let you get hurt even a little bit."
