Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1279: Isn't it too selfish?
"Of course I know Edgar wouldn't do such a thing, he's just bewitched by that woman."
Elva had believed from the beginning that it was Edwina who seduced Edgar.
"Boone, if what Elva says is true, this needs to be resolved as soon as possible." Elva's mother said.
She was worried that if it wasn't resolved, the union might fall through.
"Mum, there's no ifs, it's just true." Elva said disgruntled.
Elva's mother nodded, "It's true, it's true."
Elva's father looked thoughtful for a moment before speaking, "So Edgar must have had something to do with that woman if he refused the marriage."
"Dad, you've finally figured it out." Elva finally sighed with relief, "It's something to do with that bitch, she must have said something to Edgar."
"No, Boone, we have to step in this time." Elva's mother didn't want her daughter to be aggrieved, "We have to get the Khan family and Edgar to give us an explanation, if we can't, we'll go after the woman." Elva's father nodded, "OK, I'll talk to the old party."
Elva walked over and sat next to him, hugging his side and pouting, "Dad, you still love me."
Elva's father inclined his head to look at her, "This matter is not your fault, but in the future, you must not be so impulsive, discuss anything with us first, understand?"
"Got it." Elva leaned her head on his shoulder, "I'm especially relieved to have you and Mum."
Elva's mother lost her smile, "Don't worry, the marriage won't be a problem."
Elva nodded, "Yes."
She was going to marry Edgar, and she would not allow anyone or anything to ruin her relationship with him.
...
Edgar returned home, it was nearing midnight.
He thought everyone had gone to bed, but when he entered the house, the lights that had been switched off suddenly came on and the house was suddenly lit up. He froze and subconsciously turned his head towards the living room.
There were Baggott and Brimlad sitting on the sofa, both of them with bad looks on their faces.
It was clear to Edgar that they were waiting for him, and it was clear what they were waiting for him for.
He took a deep breath and walked over to them.
"Dad, Mum, why are you still awake?" His tone was as relaxed as he could make it.
Brimlad glanced at the sullen Baggott and said, "We're waiting for you."
Edgar laughed, "Waiting for me to do what? Afraid I won't come back?"
His relaxed look as if nothing had happened angered Baggott and he scolded him angrily, "Look at you! Coming home so late! Say! Where have you been?"
"I ... I've been working late at the office." Edgar lied casually.
"Working late at the office?" Baggott frowned, his sharp gaze fixed on him, "Edgar, do you take me and your mother for fools?"
Edgar's heart leapt and he asked cautiously, "Did you ask Ivor?"
"Bullshit!" Baggott said angrily, "With all the fuss about the video today, your mother and I were worried that it would affect your work and wanted to wait until you got off work to ask for clarification, but who knew you'd be off work before your time was up!"
Edgar lowered his eyes and didn't make a sound.
"Did you go to replace that woman?" Baggott asked.
Although Brimlad was angry with his son and Edwina, he couldn't bear the thought of his son being scolded, so he could only give him a wink and tell him not to tell the truth.
But Edgar still answered back truthfully, "Yes, I did go to see Edwina."
"Ridiculous!" Baggott rose in anger, pointed his finger at him and scolded, "Do you even have the Khan family in your eyes, or your grandfather?"
"Dad, can you ask that every time? If I didn't have the Khan family and grandpa in my eyes, I wouldn't have taken on the burden of the Khan Group in the first place."
Edgar really disliked the way his father always questioned him about this, as if he didn't care about the Khan family at all.
But in reality, since his grandfather's car accident, he had carried the entire Khan Group.
Everything he had done seemed worthless in his father's eyes.
"Since you've taken on the burden, you should think of the Khan family!" Baggott said in a loud voice.
At that, Edgar laughed out, with a sarcastic smile, "Dad, can't I even have a little life of my own?"
"Of course you can. But the big picture still has to be the Khan family!"
After all, in Baggott's eyes, the interests of the Khan family outweighed everything else for his son.
Edgar, although he had known his father's mentality for a long time, was still inevitably a little cold-hearted.
He laughed softly, a little hopelessly, "Dad, can you think of something for me? I just want to be with the person I love, just this little wish, and you won't even grant me?"
Seeing the sadness in his eyes, Brimlad could not bear it and said, "Old Fang, aren't we being too selfish? Sometimes it's time to put ourselves in our son's shoes."
"Put yourself in his shoes?" Baggott snorted, "If I think for him, how can I face Boone or anyone else? People will call us Khan family out for not keeping our promises, and then who will want to hang out with us." Brimlad frowned, "It's not as bad as you think, is it?"
"It's far more serious than you think."
Baggott glared at Edgar, "If it wasn't for you, would I have to stoop to Boone's level?"
It was the first time in his decades of pride that he had ever stooped so low to someone other than his old man.
And the other man didn't even appreciate it, and every word was a taunt.
Just thinking about it made Baggott feel angry.
"Then wouldn't it be better to cancel the union?" Edgar really didn't understand what they were insisting on.
With the size of the Khan Group now and the partnership with the Rogers Group, there was no need for Ye's help.
"Is a union cancelled just by paying lip service to it?" Baggott found his idea really naive.
"What else? Buy headlines? Or hold a press conference?"
Either way, he was willing to do whatever it took to cancel the union.
"You think it's that simple?" Baggott laughed at his naivety.
"Actually, it's really not as serious as you think, Dad." Edgar was helpless.
Apart from wanting to rely on the Boone Family to get him established in the Khan Group, he really couldn't understand why his father kept trying to link up with the Boone Family.
Baggott didn't want to get into this with him and turned the conversation directly to the video, "You must apologise, to Elva and the Boone Family for what happened with you and Edwina, and to the public as well." Edgar thought he had misheard, "Dad, are you crazy? What do I have to apologise for? You've seen the video, it's clearly Elva who is at fault."
"Yes, Elva hurt someone, but that's a different story. You have to know that if it wasn't for you and Edwina, she wouldn't have been so impulsive!" Edgar sort of understood that in his father's eyes, he, his son, was not as good as someone else, Elva!
