Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1338: That's Enough
Edwina thought for a while and decided to send Bonnie to a friend's house.
And only after that, she went to the supermarket to buy some groceries and went home to prepare dinner. Very thoughtful.
But it was also very sad.
This could be... the last dinner with him.
Before leaving work, Edgar got a call from Edwina.
"Can you come over tonight?"
Her inquisitive voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Sure." Edgar agreed without saying a word.
"Then I'll wait for you."
After saying this, the phone had hung up without Edgar waiting for a reaction.
What was wrong with him?
Edgar picked up the phone and looked at the blackened screen, frowning.
As soon as he left work, Edgar grabbed his jacket and hurried outside, almost bumping into Ivor at the door.
"President, are you off duty?" asked Ivor.
Edgar gave him a long look, "If not, do you want to stay late for work?"
"No, there's a conference you have to be at."
Edgar frowned, thinking of Edwina, who was clearly beside herself on the phone, and promptly said, "Take it back. I'm not available tonight." With those words, he strided toward the elevator.
It took him a while to get to Edwina's house, as he was stuck in afternoon rush hour traffic.
When Edwina saw him, she smiled slightly, "You're here."
"Well, I'm here."
Edgar walked in, glanced into Bonnie's room, and asked, "Where's Bonnie?"
"Bonnie's not home."
At that moment, Edgar lost all concern and wrapped his arms around her waist, taking her in his arms and kissing her slightly parted lips. Edwina's eyes widened in surprise.
But the next moment, she slowly closed her eyes and ran her hands up his broad back, responding to his kiss with rawness.
The temperature around them slowly rose, and just as it was about to go out of hand, Edgar pulled Edwina away just in time, lowered his eyes, looked into her dazed eyes and cursed. Damn it.
He almost couldn't help himself.
Squashing the restlessness from his body, Edgar curved his lips into a smile, "Have you eaten yet?"
Edwina came to her senses, reacting to what had just happened, and instantly even the roots of her ears tinged crimson, turning her head away, not daring to look him in the eye. "Not yet, I'm waiting for you." Her voice was soft and catchy, with a hint of a pout.
Edgar laughed softly and asked, "Do you want to eat at home or go out?"
"At home." Edwina pointed to the dining room.
Edgar saw the steak, wine and candles on the table, and turned his head to look at Edwina. "This is ..."
"Today marks our one hundred days together."
Edwina led him into the dining room and sat down, lighting the candles and pouring red wine into the glass in front of her.
"One hundred days?" Edgar laughed out loud, "If you celebrate it like this, will there be two or three hundred more days?"
"Maybe." Edwina's heart sank as she raised her glass. "Edgar, I've been lucky to be with you all my life."
Edgar frowned slightly, "Why are you so emotional all of a sudden?"
"Because women are sensual by nature." She tried to hide her emotions.
Edgar smiled and clinked his glass with hers, "I've been lucky enough to meet you, too. We will spend two hundred days, three hundred days... together for the rest of our lives." Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, Edwina's nose tingled and she took a deep breath to hold back tears.
A lifetime was too long for her.
Taking a sip of wine, she tasted a hint of astringency on the tip of her tongue.
Like bitterness in her heart.
"Did you fry the steak yourself?" asked Edgar.
Edwina emitted a soft "mmm" and watched as he popped a small piece into his mouth.
"Tastes good."
Edwina smiled, "That's nice."
"Then I'll be lucky to have a bite from now on." Edgar gave her a meaningful look and looked down as he slowly and methodically cut the steak.
Edwina looked at him, the smile slowly disappearing from the corners of her mouth, a hint of sadness rising to the back of her eyes.
The orange light illuminated him, making his features even deeper and more handsome.
Sensing her gaze, Edgar looked up and was about to sneer at her when he saw her eyes redden and, the next moment, tears were rolling down her face. Stunned, he hastened to say with concern, "Edwina, why are you crying for no reason?"
Edwina looked back and hurried to raise her hand to wipe it away, sketched a smile and casually found an excuse, "I... was too moved."
"You were?" Edgar wasn't quite convinced.
"Of course." Edwina smiled, "Hurry up and eat before it gets cold."
With that, she lowered her head, avoiding his probing look, and cut a piece of steak in her mouth, turning away from the conversation. "It does taste good." Edgar looked at her, his eyes a little worried.
From the moment he had received her call, he had sensed that something was wrong with her, and with her current mood...
he could be sure that she was hiding something from him.
But he didn't ask her, because even if he did, she wouldn't tell him the truth.
Edgar thought about it and asked, "What do you want to do when you're done eating?"
"Go replace Bonnie and take her home."
"What about me?" asked Edgar.
Edwina smiled, "After dinner, I have something to tell you."
Edgar nodded, "Okay."
When they finished eating, they cleaned up the dishes together and Edwina took the lead and headed into the living room to sit down.
Edgar followed her slowly and asked softly, "What do you want to talk about after dinner?"
Edwina was silent for a while before speaking slowly, "Let's break up."
At these words, Edgar thought he had misheard, "What did you say?".
Edwina pressed her palms together and then released them, looking at him with clear words, "Let's break up."
Edgar became nervous, but smiled, "Edwina, it looks like today is not April Fool's Day."
"Edgar, I'm not kidding, I'm serious."
How could he think it was a joke when she had managed to muster the courage to say it?
The smile on Edgar's lips condensed momentarily for an instant before he found his voice, "Why?"
"Because it's not right."
Edwina's reasoning caused Edgar to burst out laughing. "We've been together for so long and now you say it's not appropriate, are you kidding me?" "Edgar, you're too good for me to be good enough for you."
Edwina closed her eyes and pressed her palms together, suppressing the bitterness that almost engulfed her heart, and said once more, "Break it off." Edgar walked over to her, crouched down in front of her and took her hands in his.
"There's really no need to break up if that's why. I don't even care, as long as we love each other it's enough. Besides, in my heart, you're wonderful and unique." Edwina opened her eyes and met his with her eyes full of affection, her nose tingling and her eyes misty.
"Edwina, I love you, and that's enough."
His heartfelt confession caused Edwina's eyes to squeeze shut as tears streamed down her face. "Edwina, stop talking nonsense, okay?" Edgar reached up to tenderly wipe away her tears.
"I'm sorry." Edwina bit her lip and said unceremoniously, "I'm really hurting with you!".
