Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1548: Spreading the Word
That night, the Waterfront Villa.
Chris and Linda had fallen asleep.
A few hours into the morning, the phone rang loud and piercing, waking them both.
"It's too late, who is it?" asked Linda groggily.
Chris picked up the phone and saw it was a call from a subordinate overseas.
"Go back to sleep, I'm going to take a call."
Linda saw him walk out onto the balcony with the phone and didn't think much of it, she turned over and got ready to go back to sleep.
Chris picked up the phone and asked in a cold voice, "What is it that needs you to call me at this hour, you don't know what time it is on my end?" "President, something has happened."
The subordinate's tone was panicked, giving Chris a bad feeling, "What is it?".
"Several of our branches are being investigated by the authorities and we have been asked to close our business immediately to cooperate. Aside from the company, all stores have been ordered closed." Chris's expression clouded over, "How did this happen all of a sudden?"
"Because the money Jack had invested earlier came from an unknown source and attracted the attention of the police, resulting in the closure of several companies and stores. More importantly, the project was put on hold and all company funds are currently frozen."
"And Jack?" asked Chris angrily.
"He has fled."
Hearing these four words in his subordinate's reply, Chris snapped his phone in anger, his chest heaving violently.
The investment he had just made had gone down the drain, and he was even being watched by the police for it!
His face was as black as ink, he gritted his teeth and spat out a few words between his teeth: "Damn you, Jack!".
"Linda!" he turned and walked into the room, striding towards the bed.
"What is it again?" Linda's eyes widened with annoyance and her tone was impatient, "Will anyone ever get a good night's sleep again?"
"Something's happened and I have to get back to HQ right away." said Chris, heading for the checkroom.
Back to headquarters?
Linda realized something was wrong and hurried out of bed and followed him.
"What's going on?"
Chris looked back at her. Hurry up and help me pack, I'll call my assistant and ask her to book the fastest flight."
"Call quickly then."
Linda went to the checkroom, found her suitcase and stuffed a few changes of clothes in it.
After contacting the attendant, Chris quickly got out of his pajamas and grabbed Linda's suitcase.
"Linda, wait for me, I'll be right back." Chris leaned over to her and kissed her, then quickly left the room with his suitcase. Linda followed and walked him to the door, watching his car drive away before returning to the house.
She frowned, a little worried.
Although Chris hadn't said what was wrong, she could vaguely guess that it was serious.
But whatever it was, it wasn't supposed to affect the country.
...
"Prince, Chris has left the country overnight."
Alfredo immediately greeted Marcos as soon as he saw him arrive at work and informed him.
Marcos' eyes were slightly cold as he explained in a light voice, "Tell Eliazar to send someone to keep an eye on him." "Yes."
Alfredo bowed his head respectfully and followed him into the office.
"Prince, Chris seems to have deliberately covered up the Jack affair. It seems the Rawlins were involved in that project he had put on hold."
Mark walked behind his desk and sat down, furrowing his eyebrows for a moment, "Leave foreign affairs to Eliazar, we don't need to worry too much. Instead, it's domestic ..." His eyes narrowed, "Spread the word."
Alfredo frowned, "Prince, you're planning ...."
Marcos looked up and said coldly, "Just an eye for an eye."
What they had done to the Leoz Group, to him, he could have ignored.
But when they tried to hurt Paulina, when they stepped on his line, they had to pay the price!
"I understand."
Alfredo nodded and turned to leave the office, sighing inwardly as he realized that indeed the president was back, a ruthless move that could catch people off guard. Without delay, he arranged for someone to contact several major media outlets and tell them the news.
Soon, the story about Chris' company's unexplained funds came to light and instantly created a stir on the Internet.
"Isn't Chris working with the Bartram Group?
As the debate progressed, questions arose.
In less than an hour, the Bartram Group came to the forefront of the public debate.
"Damn!"
Rawlins put his laptop away with a grimace of fear.
"Where's Chris?" He turned his head and directed a cold, stern look at his deputy.
The aide hastily lowered his head and cautiously replied, "He's left the country overnight and can't be reached at this time!"
"No contact?" Rawlins thought he had misheard, and his voice rose a few notches, "Keep calling me until you can get in touch with him!"
"Yes!" The aide turned to leave, but suddenly thought of something and turned to Rawlins, cautiously asking, "President, Chris hasn't run away, has he?"
"Ran away?" Rawlins sneered, slowly clenched his hands and gritted his teeth: "He wouldn't dare run away if he had a hundred and twenty guts!".
"He couldn't be unaware of it, since it was all over the national media. However, he didn't tell them in time."
Rawlins sulked, quietly.
The aide was right, Chris had kept such an important matter from him, so now he was momentarily helpless!
If he had told him earlier, he could have taken care of it sooner!
At this thought, Rawlins became even more furious and asked, "Where's Linda?"
"She's still in the country."
"Send someone to keep an eye on her around the clock. With her around, there's no fear Chris won't come back." "Understood."
The aide took his orders and hurried away.
Rawlins leaned back in his chair and tilted his head slightly to look at the ceiling, his chest felt as if a stone had been pressed against it, blocking it uncomfortably.
The Bartram family, with the help of the Chavez family, had been on the verge of overpowering the Leoz family, and he had thought he could now stand up to Marcos. But then something like this happened, and if it is not resolved, the Bartram Group will be finished!
