Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 681: Not at all soft and cuddly
Rowson doesn't speak, looking at Eloise quietly from a few paces away, his eyes tinged with a bit of weariness.
Eloise, uncomfortable with the way he was looking at her, said it again.
"It's my fault that I promised to get engaged before and now I'm backtracking, I ..."
Eloise smiled bitterly, "I owe you Darlington family enough, Rowson, I'm sorry I can't keep dragging you down, thank you for all the help you've given me over the years.
I'm afraid there's no way I can repay you, I'll talk to Mum and Dad about it sometime, we can't lie to them any more ..."
Rowson tugged at the corners of his mouth to give Eloise a smile, but tried several times and failed.
He breathes in deeply and then exhales slowly.
The clarity of his eyes suddenly welled up with an inextricable sadness, and he lowered his eyebrows to hide the uncontrollable overflow of emotion.
He opened his mouth and whispered, "It's okay, you and I never have to say we're sorry ..."
Rowson turned his back on Eloise with a clear loss under his eyes.
"This whole thing was originally my mother's fault, you didn't do anything wrong, it was my mother who did something wrong, don't worry about it, leave it to me, I'll go and talk to them." With an apologetic face Eloise hastened to retort, "No, it was my fault for agreeing to the marriage, my fault, nothing to do with Mum."
Somehow, just looking at Rowson's back, Eloise could feel his sadness.
But she could not speak words of comfort.
"I came to talk to my parents and I have to apologise to them."
Rowson shook his head, being tough in front of Eloise for a rare moment, "Stay out of it, this all happened because of me, I'll sort it out. Don't worry about the rest, it's getting late, get back to bed." Eloise wanted to argue some more, but when she met Rowson's tired back, she swallowed her words.
She raised a smile with difficulty and gently responded, "Good, you get some rest too."
Rowson did not speak again.
Eloise walked out of the room and closed the door for him.
After Eloise left, Rowson felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body.
He collapsed on the bed, shielding his arms from the blinding light.
Or is it that he cannot bear to see her hurt after all.
That's it.
In the other room of the Darlington family at this time, there were two people who were vaguely worried.
Mrs Darlington frowned and said to Mr. Darlington Sr, "Do you get the impression that something is not quite right with Eloise? It's not just Eloise, there's something wrong with Rowson too."
She could feel Eloise looking nervously at Hector the whole time he was there, like she was afraid of what Hector might say.
Mr. Darlington Sr is not as sharp as Mrs Darlington but has a sharp eye after so many years in the wind and rain.
He took a deep breath, not quite ready to mention it.
"Don't meddle in their affairs, we can't interfere with the children's feelings, which is something we can influence." Mrs Darlington glanced at him, not quite approving.
Seeing that Mrs Darlington was not to be dismissed, Mr. Darlington Sr. did not wish to say more.
He wrinkled his brow and sighed longingly, "Eloise is a good boy. Maybe... isn't right for Rowson."
Mrs Darlington was startled and opened her mouth to ask, "How did you say that?
But to think that it was clearly his own trick to get Eloise to agree to be with Rowson.
All of a sudden it seemed to stick in her throat, and Mrs Darlington was unable to speak again.
Mr. Darlington Sr's vision was much broader than Mrs Darlington's, and he had more considerations in mind.
He glanced at his wife and understood that she wanted her son to be happy.
But the tactic of forcing those two children together is not desirable.
"It really doesn't work even if it does...."
Mrs Darlington did not make a sound, her mind was filled with many complicated thoughts in this moment.
The following day, it was Saturday, and Solomon had the rare privilege of not having to go to school.
But also kept the habit of not sleeping in.
At the point it ran down the stairs.
Watching Solomon running, Mrs Matriarch picked up Solomon and said kindly, "How was it, did you have fun going to Mummy yesterday?" Solomon's little face broke into a smile as soon as she heard it was about Eloise.
Crisply, he responded, "Happy, Solomon is happy to see Mummy."
To prove his happiness, Solomon added, "I ate a bowl full of rice at Mummy's yesterday."
Mrs Matriarch's eyes lit up and she was quick to compliment Solomon on his awesomeness.
"And did Solomon miss Grandma?"
Solomon's dark eyes looked at Mrs Matriarch as he leaned forward and reached out to give her a hug.
"Yes!"
Mr Fletcher couldn't resist squeezing over and vying for Solomon's attention, "Did Solomon miss Grandpa?"
Solomon arched his eyebrows and laughed, "Yes, I have missed Grandpa too!"
Just as Rupert came down from upstairs, how could he be absent at a time like this?
When he came down he made a beeline for Solomon, snatched him out of Mrs Matriarch's hands and asked with a grin, "What about me, does Solomon want his little uncle?" Solomon glanced at him with a small look of disgust.
"Don't want to."
At this Rupert pinched Solomon's white cheeks and cried, "Solomon you're biased."
Solomon, however, wasted no time in slapping Rupert's paws away, breaking free of Rupert's embrace and jumping down.
A decent advice to Rupert, "Uncle Junior, spending time with you will affect my intelligence."
Solomon's words shocked Rupert, as if he saw a reflection of his childhood in Solomon.
As a child Hector was particularly regal and cool, ignoring Rupert no matter how much he spilled.
It will only stare intently at the computer with cold eyes and write programs.
This sets up Rupert as being particularly retarded.
It's okay that his brother disliked him when he was a kid, but I didn't expect that even Solomon would dislike him now.
That's not going to work, or his position in the family is going to be even lower.
Rupert caught Solomon and said through gritted teeth, "Solomon, you don't have any intelligence for a kid, you're not as smart as I was when I was a kid." Solomon sniffed and hastily retorted, "You lie!"
He would never allow anyone to insult his intelligence.
"I'm not lying to you."
Rupert also tried to argue with Solomon, only to be rewarded with a storming blow from Mrs Matriarch.
"I don't know what you were like as a kid. No bullying Solomon!"
But when it came to Solomon, Mrs Matriarch put on a different face.
"Solomon is good, Solomon is the smartest, smarter than your little uncle was when he was little."
Mr Fletcher also turned towards Solomon and gave Rupert a very biased lecture.
Disliked by all three of them en masse, Rupert had to run to his brother to complain.
But it was clear that he had hit a nail in the coffin, and Hector gave him an expressionless look, not wanting to pay attention.
Rupert is filled with blood and tears and cannot help but miss the days when Eloise was around.
It was a good thing that Solomon was still obedient at that time.
Inevitably, he asked, "Brother, when are you going to marry your sister-in-law back? Sister-in-law is away and our Solomon is so cold and not soft at all." Unfazed, Hector brutally reveals the truth, "Hasn't Solomon always been cold to you?"
Rupert wailed in his mind, what kind of relatives this family had!
