Chapter 19
Indeed, Caroline noticed that the venomous snake had vanished from the spot where it had been hanging earlier when they went downstairs.
“Mrs. Ziegler, I hung the venomous snake at the corner of the corridor with the intention of showing it to you as proof, but it is unexpectedly gone now,” she stated.
“So, how did it suddenly disappear? Who would have taken it?” Catherine asked.
Caroline took a glance at the nearby housekeeper’s, and all of them shook their heads, indicating that they had not seen anyone else come over.
Jennifer examined the mansion and remarked, “As luck would have it, surveillance cameras were not installed at that location, so it’s a blind spot. Not only can we not replace the perpetrator, but we also don’t know who took it in the first place.” “Actually, it’s easy to figure it out. There is only one reason why that person had dared to come and steal the venomous snake in broad daylight. They must be very weak–willed and terrified that you will look into this matter, Mrs. Ziegler. Hence, I believe that the person who stole the venomous snake was also responsible for its release!”
Caroline had planned everything. She purposefully hung the viper in a location where surveillance cameras could not record the footage, thus opening an opportunity for someone to steal the viper.
It was daytime at the time, so the perpetrator must have seen Catherine approach and feared that she would look into the matter. As a result, the perpetrator had attempted to remove the evidence, even if it meant risking their life by stealing it in broad daylight.
Just like that, the perpetrator had fallen into Caroline’s trap.
What she really wanted was for the other person to steal the venomous snake so that she could track down the culprit.
“You’re absolutely right! Ms. Lewis, you’re such a genius!”
Jennifer’s eyes lit up when she discovered that Caroline was not only beautiful and intelligent, but she also took good care of Leon, making her the ideal candidate for being Quintin’s wife.
Caroline’s deduction was also agreed upon by Catherine. “Then, what should we do next to identify the perpetrator?”
“Mrs. Ziegler, you can go back first and gather the entire Ziegler family in the main hall. Later on, I’ll show you who the culprit is!”
“Great!”

Jennifer was overjoyed when Catherine agreed to it. Caroline reminded her Holmes, and she wondered what the former would do to catch the culprit.
Both of them were looking forward to it.
Next, Catherine summoned everyone from the Ziegler family to the main hall of Everglow Manor, and all of the servants. lined up outside the door in several rows.
Everyone was present, except for the injured Amelia and Romilly, as well as the disabled Quintin.
When Caroline entered the main hall, she saw everyone from the Ziegler family and thought of how complicated their family tree was. To her surprise, even Quintin’s father, David, was present.
It was said that he stayed abroad, in charge of the overseas international group, and he only returned for a short time each
year.
Everyone in the room was staring at Caroline as she swept her gaze across the room. Then, Catherine asked, “Caroline, everyone is mostly here. Now, tell me, what solution do you have to identify the perpetrator?”
“Mrs. Ziegler, hung the venomous snake at the corner of the corridor with no surveillance cameras, so it was stolen, and I can’t replace the other party. However, if the perpetrator believes that they will be safe once the evidence is removed, they are far too naive! I used a special substance to coat the rope holding the venomous snake. The perpetrator’s hand would undoubtedly be covered with the special substance when they touched the rope while removing the venomous snake. All they have to do is turn their palms over and let me see them. In an instant, I’ll figure out who the perpetrator is!”
Her words were definitive and solemn. Benjamin, who was standing nearby, looked at her with interest.
Catherine nodded and ordered, “Everyone, hold out your palms for Ms. Lewis to examine!”
When they heard that, the crowd had no choice but to stretch out their palms as it was the only way to clear their names.
Caroline started checking everyone’s palms, one by one, from the inside to the outside of the mansion.
When Caroline returned to the main hall, Catherine inquired, “How did it go? Did you replace the culprit?”
“Unfortunately not, Mrs. Ziegler. I believe the person was wearing gloves when they committed the crime,” answered Caroline.
Chapter 19
Roxanne snickered. “Stop trying to mislead us. Just leave it to the police to figure this out! Do you really think that you’re a detective?”
Caroline gave the girl a stony glance, ignoring her taunts. Instead, she turned to Catherine and said, “Even if the perpetrator was wearing gloves, I still have another way to identify them!”
“How would you be able to do that?”
“Give me a few minutes; I’ll be right back!” With that, Caroline walked out of the main hall.
Nobody knew what she did after she disappeared from the crowd’s view. Shortly afterward, she returned with two police officers, one of whom was holding a sniffer dog on a leash.
When they saw that she had brought the police officers and a sniffer dog, they realized what she was up to.
At that moment, one of the male servants could no longer hold it among the several rows of servants.
His forehead was drenched in a fine cold sweat, and his heart was racing, but he could not panic and had to force himself to remain calm.
Meanwhile, Catherine and the others exited the main hall and made their way outside the mansion. They, too, saw that Caroline had brought police officers with her.
Roxanne snorted. “I thought she was formidable for a moment, but she still had to rely on the police in the end. Tsk!”
Calmly, Caroline approached Catherine and explained, “Mrs. Ziegler, not only did I coat the rope with a special substance, but I also sprinkled that substance on the ground where the snake was hanging. As long as the perpetrator did not float to the scene, the substance will undoubtedly be on the soles of their feet! All we have to do now is wait for the sniffer dog to do its job, and we’ll replace out who it is very soon!”
After saying that, she opened a pack of light gray powder and let the sniffer dog sniff it. Seconds later, the police officer signaled the dog to begin searching.
Because the sniffer dog’s nose was so sensitive, it went straight to the servants. Many of them were terrified of the dog and were too scared to move.
When the sniffer dog was almost upon the cold–sweating male servant, he was so frightened that he wanted to flee immediately.
Alas, the sniffer dog had already locked on to the target and lunged at the man, biting his pants.
“Please don’t bite me! Please…”
With his calf bitten, he screamed in agony, falling to the ground and weeping.
Upon seeing that, Caroline exclaimed, “Did you all see that? He’s the perpetrator!”
“Peter?”
Peter Xenos, the male servant, was recognized by Catherine. Everyone who knew him was aware that he was an honest man. so they were all puzzled as to why he would do such a thing.
However, appearances could be deceiving. No matter what the reason was, Catherine would never forgive anyone who would dare to poison her grandson.
“Peter, could it be that the venomous snake was your plan? What are you up to? Were you attempting to murder Quintin?” Catherine interrogated furiously.
David also angrily rebuked, “How dare you have the audacity to harm my son? You know you are playing with fire!”
Despite the fact that the sniffer dog had been pulled away by the police officer, Peter continued to roll on the ground. Caroline approached him and inquired, “Peter Xenos, you’ve been discovered by the sniffer dog. You planned to run away because of your guilty conscience. Do you have anything to say?”
When Michael saw that, he came forward and yelled, “Peter! Are you truly the perpetrator? Fess up now?”
“Mrs. Ziegler, Mr. Ziegler, please spare me. It’s not me. I’m not the one who did it…” Peter sobbed.
“Still trying to brazen it out, huh?”
Caroline walked over to pick up one of Peter’s fallen shoes and brought and showed it to Catherine.
“Mrs. Ziegler, please take a look at this. Are the powder in my hand the same as the ones on his shoe’s sole?”
