Chapter 13

Lee Otto Fraser’s Pov:

The pain was clear on her face as I rose to my feet and pulled her up to place her on a seat. She winced more, biting her lower l*p. Her brows were drawn together as a painful look glinted in her eyes. Whatever it is I was doing. I have no idea. I felt in my gut to do so, I felt the impulse to remove the sheet of the piece of glass stuck in her sole. I laid her bare on the seat and proceeded to take it off but I was puzzled when she flinched away from me. It baffled me more when I raised my gaze to see the sheer fear in her eyes. She withdrew her b*dy and foot from me when I crouched low to get to work against my will because a strange force compelled me.

She groaned. Painfully, shutting her eyes and it surprised me again when a tear streaked down her right eye. Was the pain too immense she couldn’t control the tears from falling? I took notice of two details from her. One, she loved to repeat the word ‘sorry‘ and second, her eyes seemed to water at any little thing.

“Would you sit still and let me relieve you of the pain you are going through?” There was an impatient edge in my tone but that was because she wouldn’t let me touch her foot. God, what was I doing? I wouldn’t have batted an eye if this was to happen to any of my previous wives so why her? Why does it seem as if I’m affected when something happens to her?

Just like I did at her sister’s wedding. It wasn’t my intention to intrude in the conversation going on between her and her sister’s friends. Dressed in that plain dull black dress, matching her pale skin, she stood there and allowed them to render all manner of words on her. She watched them ridiculed her but never for once flinched.

“Who are

those?” My gaze directed at the four people occupying a table, each of them exuding riches, and each of their eyes harboring a mocking look in them.

“The friends of the bride.” Wilson replied.

“Are they among the invitees?”

“Yes.”

Initially, it wasn’t my business to interfere in stuff unrelated to me. “I see,” I mumbled and watched her, the way she stood like a prey in the midst of her predators with no escape route but to remain there as those odious abhorrent words flew out of their mouths.

Whatever pushed me to utter those words to the audience was still unknown to me. Never intended to make her wife or say those words but I couldn’t control myself and the growing impatience and indignation at the way they kept Jashing out on her and no one seemed to care.

“Is the mess on your dress more important than the mess on the floor?” A male voice from the group asserted.

And without wasting a minute or something, she was done on her knees to do as she was told. That behavior of hers puzzled me. She didn’t retaliate, neither did she oppose them but instead we

straight to do as she was commanded. Was she a fool or too docile?

And right there wasn’t what I could accommodate in my hotel. Uncultured and mannerless

“I’m sorry for my clumsy act,” I jerked my head up to look at her, her voice pulling me back to her. “I wasn’t intentional… I’m ready to take whatever punishment you give me.”

Sorry. Punishment. Why does she think I’d punish her for breaking a cup when there are a whole lot of them?

Her foot quivered when I consciously and deftly tried to remove the glass to avoid it festering

“Didn’t I refrain you from using the word sorry?” My gaze still on her, there was fear and pain conspicuous in her eyes when she flew them open and directed them to me.

“I apologize…….

A low snort escaped under my breath. I didn’t want to be amused but her words and behavior did amuse me a little. Was she playing word games with me right now? I thought I knew what it is to know about women considering that I have been married thrice and divorced thrice but this little lady seated before me was a whole new book on her own.

I couldn’t seem to understand her despite every chapter I read.

Her eyes shimmered under the dining lights when I gently and successfully pulled the glass from her sole, she bit her lower l*p tightly and grabbed a handful of my polo as the pain transported all over her b*dy. She moaned, the sound she made awakened something in me, and I could feel my inner beast growling. I watched her closed eyes and the way she gnawed her lower l*p and nearly caught my b*dy reacting to it. No! I snapped out of it, she’d be different like the others. She will turn out like the rest in no time. I swiftly pulled away from her, causing her to snap her eyes open.

Her eyes were clouded with surprise before she yanked her hand away from my polo when she realized how tightly she had gripped onto my cloth.

“I apologize for grabbing you in that manner,” she said, her voice low. Her eyes were still glassy before she raised a finger to wipe off the tears in them.

I didn’t utter a word and simply turned to the Malena who had been standing there. “See that

you tend to her wound so it won’t get infected….

“I can do it by myself,” said quickly by the woman seated across me, rising to my feet. “You don’t have to worry…..and thank you……” a little subtle smile graced her l*ps and that was the first time I saw a genuine smile on her face, not a forced smile or an anxious smile. But a smile that said she appreciated what I did. It wasn’t a manipulating, false or sly smile like my previous wives had on

their faces.

I stared at her for a fleeting minute, then nodded. “As you so pleased.” I started turning away from her to replace myself on the dining chair I had gotten up from but stopped. “Don’t ever do what

you did just nowe”

She knitted her brows, questions visible in her eyes. And it made me reflect conwiherten was referring to the way she was quick to pick those pieces from the broken glas up with hmbare hands or the way she grabbed my polo to shun the pain.

He retreated to his study. A room set apart from the other room, at the end comer all the hallway. The sumptuous designed room was filled with fewer books on two shelves which wood app each other and the limbe amworks that graced on them. The floor to ceiling windows with am amazing panoramic view added to the opulence of the room. Furnished with a leather three water single sofa adjacent to malog desk adjoined to it, an executive leather seat. Lee Otto Finoven strolled in still trying to get rd of the image of her expression while pulling the glass

sole.

Truth be told, he never felt his bodem to a trivial expression but in his own terminology he did say he never felt his bodh ‘rema that over a little seduction she wasn’t even aware of was he going out of his way for her he looked for her himself the other day, and now instead of leaving her to the care of his workers, be wen to much extent to pull the glass from her sole.

He needed to tell himself- than still the end, women are the same. They’d turn out to be as he always predicted. Manipulating, cumming and shy. He pushed the image of her at the back of his mind and walked over to the fireplans, tugging the small sticks together to intensify the fire and increase the warmth in his chamber. He returned to sit on the leather executive chair picking up al piece of paper filled with a sketch.

He tried to pull his mind from her bun it was becoming difficult. He felt like this a long time ago but he decided to bury it and never resurrect in. Be was reminded of her.

Jade.

He was reminded of her. The woman who took a part of him with her. The woman made her see other women as insignificant.

He was jolted out of his thoughts when the door of this study flew open and Wilson skidded in. Ant anxious worried look was etched across his face as he drew near

“Is there a problem?” Queried Fraser, tossing the piece of paper back on his desk. “You look like you saw a ghost.”

“A ghost would’ve been better,” answered Wilson in a stred wesce. His face showed something was troubling him.

“Care to explain why you look so disgruntled?” Otto asserted, watching the restless look on his face. *Mr Shawn Armstrong…”/

What happened to him?” Otto lifted a brow up.

“He’s pulling out of the deal and in talks about working with the ALS construction company.”

“Why?” Asked Otto, whose attention had been fully drawn. “Why would he suddenly pull out when it is officiated?”

“I don’t know, can’t tell his reason for wanting to pull out and working with the competing company ALS.”

“Definitely not competing with anyone….” He rested his elbows on the surface of his desk, staring off in the distance. Wondering why Mr Shawn would call off the agreement between them. He entwined his fingers, spacing out.

“You are oddly quiet,” Said Wilson, gaping at the indifferent look plastered across his face. “You seem unfazed at what I just said.”

“Why? You expect me to start throwing tantrums that he is withdrawing from our deal?”

“No….I mean ‘chairman of the year‘ is coming up and you wouldn’t want anyone to take that title from you…..”

Otto let out a chuckle which surprised Wilson, who was a bit baffled at his boss‘ calm demeanor. “You know who Mr Shawn is? Construction companies are in combat with each other to work with him in the business market.” Wilson went on to inform.

“Why would I be bothered over a title?” That was a rhetorical question from Otto, rose to his feet and rounded the table to where Wilson stood. “Arrange a meeting with him. I’d like it to be on the weekend.”

He clapped gently on his shoulder and turned to leave but whirled at him again. “Also, I’d like your to look into her family. And report everything to me.

“Who?” Wilson furrowed a brow inquisitively.

“Aurora.

Deep in the dense woods with tree trunks lining the sides, creating an aisle. A teen girl who is around 12 years old was seen strolling through the woods by 9:30 pm, clutching the hands of her backpack tightly against her back while whistling in the dark quiet woods. She seemed unbothered by the silent dark woods that the only light streaming in was the pale light from the crescent moon. The twigs creaked under her feet and the debris danced as she shuffled further into the woods, making her way home.

Her whistling came to halt when a sound caught her attention. A deep raspy growl echoed behind her. She stilled, fear picking up within her as the growl continued. She held her heart in her hand and narrowed her eyes down to a huge shadow before her. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead

as her heart raced furiously against her chest.

Trepidation washed over her as she slowly and meticulously turned around, only for her eyes to stretch thrice big. A scream erupted from her l*ps when her gaze landed on the owner of the shadow, she continued screaming with eyes filled with terror. Her b*dy was quivering so terribly.

She wanted to make a run for her life when a huge claw strayed across her face and in a minute, she was on the ground. Eyes shut.

The beastly growling continued.
