Chapter 14
Aurora’s Pov:
Seated on one of the kitchen dining seats, I brought my leg up, twisting it to see the injury on my sole but it was difficult. The throbbing pain had reduced after Otto pulled out the glass from it. I swore on my life, I couldn’t explain the pain that overwhelmed my b*dy when that piece of glass stuck my leg. Reminding me of my misery in my father’s house under my stepmother and half sister’s cruelty.
My mind started to trail off to how misery they’d make me feel. Always reminding me of how useless and worthless I was.
“Can I see your leg?” My mind was impeded when the female butler Malena asserted. She walked into the kitchen, harboring a small brown box in her hand. She settled it down on the table and lowered down to have a look at my leg. Seeing someone concerned about a little injury on my leg was totally new to me.
No one would care if I burnt my whole b*dy in my father’s house. I recalled one time, my step mother had her friends over. A group of four women who exuded with sophistication. A group of elite women and I had to prepare four courses of meals because each of them wanted a different dish.
“Dear, I’d like some spaghetti with a dash of citrus and an infused olive oil as toppings.” One of the women, dressed in a sleek blue gown, her hair rolled up in a chignon, said. Throwing me a smile. She said that like I was some sort of restaurant which makes everything asked of it.
I wondered what my stepmother told them. I nodded and smiled.
“I must say, you have quite a lovely beautiful daughter.” The woman added, still retaining that smile on her face. “She’s so beautiful and I must add, she does seem very cultured. Not like the daughters of Mrs Adeline who are pompous to the brim.” The woman shuddered and shook her head as if she was reminded of a particular scenario.
“Excuse me,” another woman, dressed in a resplendent animal skin dress with v hands darted her eyes to the first woman who had spoken earlier. “Why calling my daughters? At least, they are better than those brats you call children. Very annoying set of children.”
Okay, I still didn’t know why I had to stand here and watch them wrangle words like children but I had to listen to their banter until it’s over.
“Oh that’s how it is now?” The first woman fired back. “My children…….at least has a bit of humanity in them but your children… The woman made a sound under her breath, the second woman did replace irritating and shook her head.
The second woman wanted to fire back a comeback before my step mother cut short their dispute. “Ladies, that’s enough. You don’t want to keep arguing about whose children are better than the other in front of her, my stepmother directed her repulsing gaze at me which she tried to conceal

because of her friends.
The two women stopped their banter when they came to the realization they had strayed off. The second woman gave a final glare to the first woman who returned the glare as well. She dressed the hands of her clothing and returned her attention to me.
“That’s all I want,” she said to me.
I nodded. Watching them interact immediately like they didn’t quarrel. Well that was expected from socialist women like them.
What you ladies, what do you want?” My stepmom Elizabeth queried the remaining three women. “My daughter here will get it all done in no time.”
The word ‘daughter‘ sounded eerily on her l*ps. Never for once did she consider me her daughter. The hatred she has for me was immeasurable so it was quite surprising she called me daughter for the first time yet it sounded so sinister to me. I shifted my eyes to her and there was a chilling flicker in her eyes. I swallowed and looked away.
“I’d like some stirred meat and some lettuce with it.” The second woman demanded. My stepmom always has her way of tormenting me. What if I can’t cook, I wonder who’d meet these women’s demands.
The remaining two men asked for simple dishes. I took down their requests like some waitress working in a restaurant and retreated to the kitchen. While trying to meet up to their demands, I cut myself, I burnt myself and all these, just so I wouldn’t have to witness my stepmother cruelty melted on me after her friends must have left.
“What are you doing?” I jolted from where I stood at the sink, rinsing with water, the part of my arm where the hot cooking oil I was using splashed on. “Don’t you know I have
guests over?” My stepmother Elizabeth who strolled in, inquired in a cold tone. “And what are you doing over there?”
“The cooking oil spilled on me…..”
“So?” Her face contorted with anger. “So I’d have you keep my friends waiting because you were ridiculous enough to spill oil on yourself…..” She trailed off and sniffed the air. “Something is burning, I smell something burning.”
Fear took hold of me when it dawned on me, I was stirring the meat when I marched over to the sink to cool the hotness in my arm.
“Are you trying to ruin me?” My stepmom asked and I wondered what she meant by that. I swiftly walk over to switch off the cooker.
“I’m sorry.” I apologized. Still feeling the throbbing pain in my arm.
“You are sorry? Messing up the simple food given to you because why? Your clumsiness got you

burnt?”
“I’m really sorry,” I winced. Subduing the pain in my arm. “I will make a new one.”
“Are you dense or getting back at me? Are you trying to ridicule me in front of my friends?” Her loathe filled words slithered through me. “Get one thing into your stupid skull, if you mess this up once more or waste my friends and I precious times, I promise, you won’t see the rising of
tomorrow’s sun.”
“Also, do not let what they say get into your head.” She threw me a condemning look. “Wonder why they’d think you are from me.”
“Useless,” she added and strolled off the kitchen. Each of her steps showed every hatred and scorn she has for me. This was what I was subjected to everyday, no matter how much I tried, I wasn’t enough. I’m unfit to what society deemed the first daughter of one of the four clans. The Frostmoon clan.
I groaned in pain when my mind and b*dy returned to the present as I felt a scorching liquid on my sole. I quickly jerked my feet away from the butler. I–blenched, quivering at the effect of whatever liquid was on my sole.
“Sorry, but to get it healed fast. This liquid is more recommended.” Malena gave me a warm smile which soothed the pain away a bit. Having someone take care of me was a bit strange and new to me. I wasn’t used to it.
“Thank you but I will continue from here,” I took the white cotton fur and pressed it against my sole. Soothing the pain away. I bit my lower l*p, suppressing the pain going through me. Eyes closed, I was immediately transported back to the incident an hour ago.
I was quite baffled when he grabbed me and sat me down, only to pull the piece out of my leg. It was bemusing to me. I was expecting the usual treatment I got from my family when I mess things up but none came.
As a ruthless man everyone deemed him to be. I expected more but got none. I was really stunned.
“What he did, don’t take it to heart.” Malena cut short the endless questions within me.
I queried with on what she was on about.
v gaze
“Otto. The behavior he exhibited at the dining room, don’t think too much about it. Don’t let it penetrate you. He’s used to asking his wives to eat the food they made him, I thought you’d be an exception.”
“Why would
you think that?”
“First, Otto isn’t the type who goes looking for any of his wives if they are nowhere to be seen. He usually sends his securities to search for them but in your case, I must say, Otto surprised me when he went looking for you himself.”

“There must be something special about you.”
I almost laughed when those words escaped her l*ps. Special? In what way? I asked myself. I obviously didn’t have the gifts or abilities of the first daughters of the four clans. And maybe he must have reacted impulsively but I would never see him as a gentle one because the stereotype I have of him based on the tales of my stepmother, half sister and father already was stuck. I wanted to ask Malena what kind of man he was but there was no point. It wasn’t as if I cared.
I was literally forced into a meaningless and contractual marriage against my will and I have to live under this man and abide by all his rules if I want to survive this marriage. If only there was a termination time.
“I’m already used to it,” I mumbled under my breath, quite surprised she heard me loud and clear. I was already used to such treatment. Being treated with insignificance and where I must prove myself to be deemed worthy, though a moment like that never came.
“Used to what?” The older lady asked. Pulling out a band–aid from the box, holding it out to my reach.
“Used to that sort of treatment.” I took the band–aid from her. The tingling pain in my sole had reduced to an extent. I bandage my wound, letting out a tired whiff.
“Oh dear,” the older woman cooed. “What animal of man would treat you this way? Fraser is understandable because you know, he is Fraser.”
A light chuckle escaped me at the disapproving frown plastered across her face. But the thing is it wasn’t a man but my own family. I didn’t say it out loud.
“Dear, what kind of life have you been subjected to?”
Mm? Where is the question coming from? I pondered.
“Would you like to go food shopping with me?” The vibrant voice of the older woman asked. I furrowed my brow, surprised at her invitation. “I like you already.”
“Otto?” I mumbled because I have to report to him every place I went and I wouldn’t want him to get upset with me like last time. Seeing him angry terrifies me but at the same time, I couldn’t bring myself to refuse the woman before me. Her eyes gleamed with brightness and her countenance showed she desired me to come along.
I didn’t want to disobey my husband and at the same time, I didn’t want to refuse her. I parted my l*ps to reply, trusting my life on any answer that comes out first.
“What about me?” A voice came from behind. His voice. I promptly turned my head and saw him standing at the kitchen door post. When did he come and how long had he been standing there? How did he know we were talking about him?
His emerald piercing detached green rested on me. Giving me no room for escape,
