Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire -
Chapter 319
"Selena, aren't you curious about why your health is going downhill?"
That question stopped Selena in her tracks. Her eyes narrowed, "What do you know?"
Margot played it coy, "If you're interested, meet me later. I'll text you the address!" Click, the line went dead on her end.
Leaning against the headboard, Selena found herself lost in thought. She knew Margot was up to no good, but this time she had really hit a nerve. Selena was desperate for answers about her health and hoped there might be a solution hidden in the information Margot had. She couldn't afford to overlook any possibility!
Selena got out of bed, splashed some water on her face, threw on some comfy, warm clothes, and headed downstairs to have the driver take her to the meeting spot.
In a café near a fancy clinic, Selena and Margot sat across from each other. Neither of them was up for coffee, so they settled on herbal tea. But this wasn't a friendly chat over afternoon tea. Selena cut straight to the chase, "Spill it. Tell me everything you know!" Margot took her time sipping her tea, a smug smile spreading across her face. "Selena, you heard it yourself last night, right? Everett and I are truly in love. He'll never leave me or our child!"
Last night...
Selena realized she'd been set up; Everett had staged those words for her to hear. She scoffed, "After all this time, your tricks are still cheap and pathetic."
Margot's smug grin faltered. She hadn't seen the heartbreak she hoped for; instead, Selena's calm mockery rattled her. Every attempt to humiliate Selena seemed to backfire.
She refused to believe Selena could still keep her cool!
"Alright, no more games!" Margot's lips twisted into a cold smirk, "The reason your health is failing is because of those pills Kathlen gave you. They're powerful, sure, great for boosting health, but for a pregnant woman, they drain nutrients from the mother to feed the fetus. That's why you were able to keep the baby after your injury."
"But is that good? No way. Such a harsh method weakens the mother, and eventually, the fetus doesn't get the right nutrition either, creating a nasty cycle. In the end, childbirth becomes incredibly risky!"
Selena had wondered if the pills were the problem but never imagined they'd be so insidious. They saved her baby at first, making her think they were miraculous, only to trap her in this predicament! What a cruel scheme!
Could it be... Kathlen set her and her baby up on purpose?
Margot's next words hit like a bolt of lightning.
"She said, "Selena, before Kathlen
gave those pills to Josh, Everett had already had them analyzed. He knew they were harmful to you and the baby but still let you take them
without a word, didn't he?""
"That's because... from the start, he never wanted your baby. You crossed him. The only reason he kept you around and played nice was to ensure you'd both be gone for good!" Selena's eyes widened, "No way!"
Maybe Everett didn't love her or want the baby at first, but she couldn't believe he'd wish harm on her and their child!
"Margot, I won't just take your word for it. I'll go ask him myself!"
Selena shot up, heading for the door.
But Margot wasn't done, chasing her down and grabbing her arm, "How can you still be blind to reality? I'm telling you this out of pity. How long will you keep lying to yourself?"
"Let go!"
Selena tried to shake her off.
Margot held on tighter, throwing them both off balance and drawing a crowd.
Amidst the chaos, Margot suddenly cried out in pain and dropped to the floor, her face pale as she moaned "My stomach, it hurts so much.. Selena, you're so cruel. Just because your child can't be saved, you want to harm mine..."
Selena stared, stunned. She'd only tried to pull away, not push her! "What's going on here!"
Everett pushed through the crowd, striding over. Seeing Margot on the floor clutching her stomach in agony and Selena standing nearby, his face clouded over, his voice dark as a storm.
