Ava's face fell as she shook her head gently. "I've tried calling him so many times, but he never picks up. His own wife is in trouble, and he's too busy to care about what he's doing."

By the time she was done speaking, Ava's words were laced with frustration. Selena forced a smile, her thoughts tinged with bitterness. She knew exactly what he was wrapped up in-being by his true love's side as she awaited the arrival of their baby. And her? Well, she was just his wife. What did it really matter?

"Let's head back."

Selena gathered herself, stood tall, and began to walk out, one step at a time. Ava had been by her side for years and could easily see through the facade of strength Selena put up. Her fragile state always tugged at Ava's heart.

Meanwhile, Ava couldn't help but silently criticize Everett. Just when he seemed to be getting his act together, showing some improvement these past few months, he messed it all up again.

If Ava hadn't rushed her to the hospital today, who knows what might've happened? The thought alone still sent shivers down her spine!

If Everett let his wife down once more, Ava could already predict the fallout. Women are emotional creatures, but when they've had enough hurt and disappointment, they start thinking clearly, and that's when their hearts can turn as cold as steel-beyond repair. Back at the villa, Ava efficiently changed the bed linens, tidied up the master bedroom, then fished Selena's phone out from under the sofa, handing it to her.

"Ma'am, if you need anything, just call me, or ring once, and I'll be right here," Ava advised.

Selena hadn't shared her medical results, but Ava could sense they weren't positive and knew she needed to be extra cautious.

"Alright, I understand." Selena gave a grateful smile.

Throughout her pregnancy, Ava's attentive care was undeniable, even surpassing that of Everett, her husband.

With her mother passing away early and her aunt being cold, Selena had been with the Bennett family for three years. Unlike the others, Ava never looked down on her; she was always there, comforting her, making her delicious meals when she was feeling low. Ava had become a mother figure to Selena.

If her own mother were still alive, she imagined she'd be just as caring and loving.

These thoughts brought tears to Selena's eyes.

But Ava misunderstood, thinking Selena was upset because of Everett. She consoled her, "Ma'am, try not to dwell on it too much. Rest up, and when the gentleman comes back, I'll give him a piece of my mind for you!"

Selena chuckled, touched by Ava's words. Even though Ava was nearing fifty, she was always up-to-date with the latest trends, just like the younger crowd.

After Ava left, closing the door softly behind her, Selena picked up her phone and lit up the screen.

No calls or messages from Everett.

Selena's heart sank.

Later in the afternoon, Ava gently woke Selena and asked if she'd like to eat something before trying to sleep again.

Selena hadn't really slept, her mind replaying Dr. Martin's words from the hospital.

She couldn't fathom how her body, which had been healthy and nurtured with supplements, could suddenly have issues. What had gone wrong?

Despite her lack of appetite, she forced herself to eat the light meal Ava prepared, knowing she couldn't be careless. Her phone rang suddenly, pulling her back to reality. It was Everett calling.

Her hand froze.

Was he finally ready to pay attention to his wife?

Even though she was upset and disappointed with Everett, she didn't want to hide the medical results. from him. After all, the child was theirs, and as the father, he deserved to know.

Plus, with his influence and connections, maybe he could replace a top-notch gynecologist to ensure a safe delivery for their baby. Nobody chooses to face death.

But the issues between them could be dealt with after the baby was born.

For now, she had to focus on the baby.

With that in mind, Selena took a deep breath, making sure she was calm enough for a conversation, and answered the call.

To her surprise, it wasn't Everett on the line-it was Margot.

Margot's voice was full of

smugness. "Everett left his phone

with me. I saw you called a bunch of

times and thought you might have

an emergency, so I'm calling you back."

Selena's grip on the phone tightened, anger coursing through her veins.

She laughed, filled with scorn, ready to hang up.

But Margot raised her voice, "Selena, let's meet. I have something to tell you."

"No."

Selena's refusal was immediate. She could guess that Margot just wanted to brag or flaunt something. At point, she couldn't care less
