Selena stood firm, not backing down an inch. Things between them had reached a dead end, a cul-de-sac with no escape, and she had nothing left to fear.

Everett's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. He couldn't accept the finality in her words. To him, she was Mrs. Bennett, his other half, and he wasn't about to let her go without a fight.

In a swift move, he leaned in, his large hand cradling the back of her neck, making her look up as his lips came down on hers, pressing with urgency and intensity.

Selena was caught off guard at first, then quickly began to struggle. "You jerk, let go, let me go... mmph..."

The more she pushed back, the more determined Everett became. His strong, muscular frame pinned her against the headboard, his arms wrapping around her waist like iron chains, and his tongue boldly parted her lips to claim her.

The gap in their strength, along with Selena's postpartum fragility, made it easy for him to overpower her. As the air slipped away, she weakened and went limp in his arms, her head spinning dizzily.

Everett reluctantly pulled back from her lips, gently kissing her cheeks, which had filled out a bit since childbirth, feeling even softer to the touch.

If it weren't for her still being in recovery, his desires would have demanded much more...

Lost in his thoughts, he was surprised by a slap to his face, though Selena's strength was lacking, making it more of a tickle than a strike.

He snapped back to reality, looking down at the woman in his arms, gasping for breath, her dark eyes blazing with fiery anger, as if she wished she could tear him apart. Her anger oddly reassured him.

He wasn't afraid of Selena's fury; it showed she still cared.

He leaned in again, pressing a kiss to her eyelids, his voice husky with sincerity, "Selena, no one will bother us here. Don't you like it when I'm with you? I'll stay with you through your recovery, take care of your

health, and as for..."

He hesitated for a moment before continuing, "The child we lost, I'll make it up to you."

He accepted the blame for losing their first child; he hadn't been careful enough.

But they had time on their side; both young with a future ahead. He would make amends.

"Don't worry about your uncle anymore; I've got it sorted. He's safely back home. The person responsible for your accident may have fled, but they won't get far I'll make them pay dearly, for our son!"

"Once you're better, let's visit Mateo's grave together. Whatever you want to do, wherever you want to go, I'll be there with you..."

Everett, usually so reserved and quiet, found himself talking more than ever, sharing his deepest thoughts with Selena.

He never thought he'd become like any other guy, sitting in their bedroom, talking about mundane things.

Yet here he was, replaceing it so natural, not awkward or losing any sense of pride.

It was a new feeling, but one he didn't

nice, ed. In fact, he found it quite

nice, even if he couldn't quite figure

out why he'd changed so much.
