Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire -
Chapter 375
Selena's mind was racing, but she carefully avoided bringing up last night's drama. With a measured tone, she said, "Everett, I don't need those fancy jewels. I'm not that woman anymore, the one who spent every day trying to dress up and win her husband's attention."
"If you really feel guilty, just let me have internet access."
It had been over two months since she had any contact with the outside world. Anyone less strong-willed would have lost their mind by now!
Everett's eyes narrowed at her words, his once gentle gaze turning sharp and probing.
"Mrs. Bennett, I'm here with you every day. Who else do you need to talk to?"
His voice had turned icy.
Even without the internet, Moon Bay had it all: a private cinema, karaoke, a gym, a backyard with hills, lakes, meadows, stables, hot springs, and more.
If she wanted to shop, a single phone call was enough. Luxury store assistants would come right to her, and she could sit back with a cup of hot tea while models showed off the latest fashions, buying whatever caught her fancy.
Her needs were completely met, unless... she had thoughts she shouldn't.
When Everett got cold, his presence was downright intimidating.
Selena's hands, hanging at her sides, clenched her pants without realizing it. Her heart raced a bit, but she kept her face calm.
She didn't look at him, instead turning her gaze to the flowerbed behind him, blooming beautifully under her care with vibrant purples and reds, a true feast for the eyes.
Finding a bit of calm, she spoke evenly, "Is my life just about having you in it now? Do I not get to socialize or have my own career?"
"Everett, these past three years, I've become someone who just revolves
around a man, losing myself completely. Didn't you hate that about me? I did too. I don't want to be that person again!"
She lowered her gaze, her voice softening a hint of tears in here throat, You always say you want us to be happy together. But by keeping me tied down like this, do you really mean it?"
The woman standing before him wasn't angrily confronting him anymore. Instead, she was quietly sharing her frustrations, softening her edges, finally willing to show him her softer side.
Everett's fingers gently traced her lips, lost in thought.
Selena kept quiet, waiting, though her heart thudded with anxiety. She didn't know if Everett would believe her or if he would let her reconnect with the world outside. Even though Dr. Campbell was working hard to come up with a plan, she couldn't just sit and wait forever. She had to make the most of any chance that came her way. It felt like forever, but it was just a moment before he finally spoke, his voice steady and unreadable.
"Selena, if I agree to give you your freedom, would you willingly stay by my side, be Mrs. Bennett, and keep building a family with me?"
