Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire -
Chapter 376
Selena couldn't help but scoff inwardly. Life wasn't just about remembering the good times and ignoring the bad. She had been foolish in the name of love one too many times; there was no way she was going to make the same mistake again with a man who didn't love
her back.
But for her son, she needed to learn how to navigate this situation, to break free from this cage.
She forced a smile, giving a small nod. The words that went against her heart felt like they'd attract a lightning bolt if she said them out loud.
Everett wasn't fooled by her reluctance. He knew Selena was naturally stubborn. If she had just given in easily, she wouldn't be Selena.
"Mrs. Bennett, you know I'm a businessman. I don't make losing deals. If you're going to agree to this deal with me, you need to follow through. Don't let me down, alright?"
His long fingers tilted Selena's chin up, his tone almost like a lover's whisper, yet it sent chills down her spine. His dark eyes were deep, like whirlpools that could pull you in with just one look-dangerous and mesmerizing.
Just like him, he seemed like a noble, untouchable gentleman, a high mountain flower, but underneath it all, he was nothing but a scoundrel. It took her ages to see his true colors, or she never would have married him three years ago! Selena looked down, avoiding his gaze, swallowing hard before softly saying, "Of course."
That night, Selena's phone and other devices were finally returned to her, all connected to the internet again. Getting her hands on her phone after so long almost brought her to tears!
Living without a phone in this day and age felt like torture-every day dragged on without the simple act of scrolling through her feed.
Her phone was flooded with unread messages from her uncle, Ricky, Joy, and Dr. Campbell, mostly asking where she was and why she'd gone silent, expressing concern. She replied to everyone except Dr. Campbell.
Everett was overly suspicious and possessive. She had to tread carefully, afraid of causing more trouble. She was desperate to know how her baby was doing or to see her child via video call. Photos weren't enough to quell her intense longing.
Everett was heading to the Capital
for a business trip the next day, and Derick was already downstairs waiting for him bright and early. Selena had planned to wait until he left, then replace a way to ditch the bodyguards and meet up with Dr. Campbell to see her baby,
But she was jolted awake by him before she could execute her plan.
Barely cracking her eyes open, her voice was still thick with sleep, "What is it?"
She'd finally let her guard down and gotten some decent sleep.
"Get up, you're coming with me to the Capital."
"You're going on a business trip, why drag me along? I don't want to go!"
She rolled over, curling back into the comfort of her bed.
Seeing her act like a brat, Everett couldn't help but chuckle softly, "You complained about being cooped up here with no freedom, yet now that I'm offering to take you out, you refuse. Mrs. Bennett, you seem to want it all your way."
Selena turned her back to him, feigning sleep. She had her own agenda. Going to the Capital with him, under his constant watch, was no different from being locked up in the villa.
Everett wasn't asking for her opinion; he was telling her. Without another word, he bundled her up in the blanket, picked her up, and carried her out.
By the time Selena realized what
was happening, she was already in the back seat of the car, her hair a tangled mess, her face unwashed and clothes unchanged. He'd carried her out in full view of the
bodyguards and Derick, leaving her mortified.
"Everett!" She glared at him, itching to bite his head off. "You could at least let me tidy up! Do I not deserve any dignity?"
Everett glanced at her, sunlight pouring through the window, bathing her in a warm, golden glow. Her irritation painted her cheeks a rosy pink, making her look irresistibly charming yet fiery.
