Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire -
Chapter 377
The man leaned in unexpectedly, his handsome face looming larger in her view. With a playful smirk, he murmured, "No need to fuss over your appearance you're stunning just the way you are." Otherwise, how could she have captivated him so completely, leaving him dizzy with desire?
As he spoke, his slender fingers tilted her chin upward, and his lips brushed gently against hers.
Selena: "..."
She shoved him away with all her strength, scooting over to the car window, her disdain clear as day. "Creep!"
Everett wasn't upset; he just rubbed his lips with his fingertip, smiling in that teasing way of his.
He told her to catch some more sleep if she wanted, mentioning they still had an hour's drive to the airport, and then instructed the driver, "Let's hit the road."
The car rolled smoothly out of the villa.
Selena leaned her forehead against the window, watching the scenery slip by. The reality of it all made her a bit wistful, but she reminded herself this was just a business trip, not an escape to some deserted island. She'd be back; impatience wouldn't get her anywhere. Plus, who knows... maybe the Capital held new opportunities?
Initially, Selena had dismissed this as just a passing thought, not expecting much. But to her surprise, the chance she'd been yearning for was right around the corner!
Everett's schedule was jam-packed: landing at Capital International Airport at noon, a ribbon-cutting at the new Bennett Corporation mall at 1:30 PM, golf with major investors at 3 PM, a video conference in the car at 5 PM, and finally, a dinner party at 7 PM. She was by his side the whole time, playing the role of his partner. Other execs brought their spouses too. In these formal settings, married guys usually showed up with their wives, and the single ones came with fiancées or their personal assistants.
No matter what they did behind closed doors, they had to maintain the image of a good husband and gentleman.
That's partly why Everett brought Selena along.
The evening's gathering was a private affair, drawing in the crème de la crème of the Capital. Word had it that Josh's health was failing, a well-kept secret from the public but an open secret within their circle. It was only a matter of time before Everett would assume full control of the Bennett family.
Being so young and capable, the future under his leadership looked promising for Bennett Corporation.
Everyone there was eager to network, hoping to forge connections that might lead to lucrative business down the line.
While the men clinked glasses and talked shop, the ladies gathered to chat about beauty tips and gossip, strengthening their bonds. Some conversations were just easier shared between wives.
Everett was the star of the show, naturally boosting Selena's status. The other ladies showered her with compliments, praising her skin, knack for charming Mr. Everett and

essentially putting her on a pedestal.
Before long, her handbag was brimming with business cards, invitations for tea, overseas fashion shows, trips, and shopping sprees.
Selena kept up appearances, smiling
on the outside, but inside she felt
suffocated. She'd never been fond of
these social scenes. In the past,
she'd forced herself to go for Everett's sake, but now? She

have to socialize with these wealthy wives for her husband anymore.
Seizing a moment, she excused herself and stepped out onto the balcony for some fresh air.
Fifteen minutes later, she made her way back to the banquet hall.
Scanning the room, she noticed Everett was missing, leaving her a bit perplexed. A lady passing by clued her in.
"Mrs. Bennett, are you searching for Mr. Everett? He's over at the card room with some friends, probably playing a few hands." She even pointed Selena in the right direction.
"Oh, thanks!" Selena replied politely.
Once the lady moved on, Selena stood still. To the right was the card room, but to the left... was the banquet hall's main exit!
Everett hadn't brought many bodyguards on this trip, and tonight, he'd only brought Derick, who was likely waiting in the car, not outside! Which meant...
If she slipped out that door and found a good hiding spot, avoiding Everett's notice, she could finally taste freedom!!
