Mr. Powell Is Hunting for His Wife -
Chapter 44: You Don’t Need to Accompany me for Resting Anymore
Diana's voice was otherworldly as it pegged at his heart.
His dark pupils blinked at Brooklyn, "Mr. Powell, why not give me your comment? You are paying for it, so if you feel unsatisfied with this, I will immediately change into another one." The salesperson on one side couldn't help sucking in a deep breath after hearing Diana's words.
This woman had the guts to speak in such a way to Mr. Powell!
And what surprised her the most was that Mr. Powell didn't show any hint of anger on his face at all.
He was simply lying lazily against the sofa with his long legs crossed. The thin line that was his lips lifted, "This will be the one."
In Brooklyn's private villa...
Mirabelle was carrying out her skincare routine, and after signalling for the maids to leave, she returned to her own bedroom.
Tomorrow, the Hills were going to hold a private banquet at the hotel they were staying in Sliwell. They had invited influencers in the fashion industry, but she was not in the invitation list. When Mirabelle learnt of that, her face went pale and her hand caught on to the edges of her clothes.
She tried to console herself that the Hillvie brand put emphasis on their clothing line, which had nothing to do with perfumery. At the same time, the Moss Group's star product was perfume. Perhaps the Hills didn't know much about the Moss Group.
A while again, she had gone storming at the Powell Group because of the Hills and Anna, which caused her to receive continuous cold treatment from Brooklyn for a few days after that incident. He never showed her any kindness throughout that period.
The banquet organized by the Hills was a good chance for Brooklyn and her to mend their old wounds.
Up until now, Brooklyn had never put her by his side in any social occasion yet.
Although he never publicly disclosed about her identity as his fiancée, but it's not like he ever denied it.
Brooklyn must still care for her, which made Mirabelle feel secretly elated.
While they were still in a cold war, asking to join him in that banquet would definitely be rejected by him.
After mulling over some thoughts for a few minutes, Mirabelle called Mrs. Moss, "Mummy, I need an invitation card for the private banquet organized by the Hills tomorrow."
Although the Moss Group wasn't the most influential organization in Sliwell, but it would still be a piece of cake to get their hands on an invitation card.
After Mrs. Moss delegated this job, not even two hours had passed when the invitation card to go to the Hills' party arrived at Mirabelle's doorstep.
The corners of her mouth lifted as she spoke to the main who was attending to her, "Do you have all the appointments with my dressmaker and hairstylist? The banquet tomorrow night is very important to me. There can't be any mistakes."
"You have nothing to worry about, Ms. Moss."
"Oh, right, about the perfume." Mirabelle picked up a bottle of perfume and sunk into a dilemma.
It was apparent that she couldn't reuse the perfume she had got from Anna this time, and there wasn't much left of the ones she had taken from Diana.
For some reason, it had been a while since Brooklyn had requested for her accompaniment at night.
Despite that, it seemed that he was well rested every day.
Mirabelle couldn't help but frown. Could it be that Brooklyn had acquired some other form of tension-killing perfume other than the one she had?
However, she had bought off the maids working in Brooklyn's villa, and she knew that there wasn't any form of incense in his room, let alone perfumes. Even his suit didn't have any trace of perfume. Mirabelle became increasingly perplexed at this incomprehensible phenomenon, but she couldn't replace any clue leading to the answer. She couldn't replace out the reason Brooklyn had suddenly abandoned her accompaniment at night.
Her maid somehow was able to read Mirabelle's mind, and she was able to come up with an answer.
"Ms. Moss, I have followed your instruction previously and I have contacted the other experts in the perfumery industry to help concoct a perfume. Although it couldn't replicate the same effects of the one you have now, it is still very good. You should have a try."
Mirabelle gave it some thought. It seemed that this was the only way left.
Soon, nightfall came. The dim glow of moonlight was pouring into the lavish living room.
Mirabelle heard the sound made by someone arriving at the villa, and she quickly held a glass of hand-made cocktail and walked towards the door.
Brooklyn was removing his coat and handing it to the butler next to him.
"I remember telling you that you don't need to wait for me."
Brooklyn stared at the cocktail in Mirabelle's hand and accepted it to take a few sips. Then he mumbled, "You don't need to concoct this anymore. You should put more effort in your blending of perfumes." Just as his long legs was about to stride into his study room, Mirabelle halted him with her awkward voice.
"Brooklyn, recently, why do you no longer need my accompaniment at night?" Mirabelle hurried to the front of him as her fingers intertwined with her shirt. "Your insomnia... Without me accompanying you, I am quite worried. Are you too busy with work lately to the point of no time for rest? Do you need me to help you ease some workload?"
Brooklyn stopped in his tracks.
"Mirabelle, I told you before the same thing. From now on, you no longer need to accompany me to rest."
The man's eyes were devoid of any emotion.
Mirabelle let her fingernails sunk into her palms, "Brooklyn, are you just too busy lately? You know that... we care a lot about your insomnia. Me, and grandmother..."
Brooklyn was now watching her with a hard expression and some scrutiny.
What Mirabelle had referred to as her grandmother was Brooklyn's real grandmother, Madam Powell.
The reason Mirabelle was able to cement herself in Brooklyn's private villa was all because of Mrs. Powell and Madam Powell.
Unlike Mrs. Powell, Madam Powell's concern towards Brooklyn wasn't artificial.
Otherwise, with Brooklyn's attitude towards Mirabelle, he wouldn't have allowed her to step into his private zone just because of some words from Madam Powell.
Brooklyn squeezed the centre of his forehead with a fatigue look and said with a distant voice, "Mirabelle, you don't need to use grandmother to pressure me." Brooklyn thrust one of his hand into his pocket. His voice was chilly.
Mirabelle watched Brooklyn left while trembling, and the confusion in her heart grew worse.
This was because she clearly saw that Brooklyn's fatigued expression was not due to burning the midnight oil!
What had happened behind her back? To make Brooklyn no longer need her?
Her accompaniment alone was her biggest factor that she could still stay by Brooklyn's side.
Mirabelle suddenly felt a sense of trepidation.
If there appeared another person who could let Brooklyn sleep peacefully, then that person would be her biggest enemy.
A calculative gaze appeared in Mirabelle's eyes.
She wouldn't allow her current position as the young lady of the family be gone because of this!
The next day...
"Mummy, are you going out with daddy tonight too?"
"Austin, tell me the truth. Did you hack into the Powell Group internet again?"
Austin shrugged, "Daddy's internet system isn't that secure in the first place. You can't blame me."
Diana was silent as she cursed silently in her heart. She had no way to deal with this smart maverick!
Emily produced a sweet smile, "Mummy, you don't need to hide! We know that you are going out with daddy later!" Diana couldn't replace any words for it.
Why did she have a feeling that both of her children were very fond of Brooklyn that man?
Was it because of the fact that blood was thicker than water?☐☐☐☐☐☐
