My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 575
Half a year ago, a resort hotel was built by the Hovell lake. After I finished my shift at the restaurant, I'd go for cleaning duties at the hotel. Working was not hard, mostly because it was close to Anne's kindergarten. So, it was always convenient for me to go pick her up.
In the evening, after I cleaned up the hotel, I'd get changed and get ready to pick Anne up.
Norman Zelson, who was leaning against the doorframe, stared at me and asked, "You're going to pick Anne up now?"
I nodded and looked back at him. He was a tall and handsome man despite being in his early forties. "Do you need me to pick Bennett up?" I offered.
He smiled and shook his head. Then, he raised his eyebrows, "What I meant was let's go together since we're heading the same way."
Norman was the manager of the hotel. He was my interviewer when I joined the hotel. When he looked at my resume, he was a little confused and asked, "You graduated from a famous university. Why are you applying to be a cleaner?"
I grinned and said, "No job is too lowly or noble to do. Plus, a cleaner's salary doesn't look too bad."
He lifted his eyebrows. Indeed, all other positions in the hotel had a trial and a promotion period.
Salaries were relatively low in the beginning when one started at a new workplace, but cleaners had it a little different. Their salary was fixed and was quite high.
They had hit it off in the beginning as they worked at the same place. Later on, they became closer to one another when they found out that they were both single parents.
As the hotel manager, he would sometimes be too busy to pick up his child, so he occasionally asked me for help. Thus, when I picked Anne up, Bennet would also come along with me.
I went out of the hotel with Norman and got into his car. The journey was short and it only took us around ten minutes to reach the kindergarten.
Many parents and the children's guardians were already standing by the gate of the kindergarten, waiting for the kids to be let out. Most of them were elderlies.
Thus, the resting area outside the school was full of the elderly.
"We still got five minutes to kill. You can sit over there and take a rest. It's pretty warm here!" Norman suggested as he pointed to an empty seat shaded by the tree.
"I'm fine. Five minutes isn't long!" I smiled gently. My body had always been sore for the past few years, most likely a side effect of my pregnancy.
He smiled and did not insist. He looked at his watch and began to chat with me. "There will be an outstation job at the hotel in a few days. They're paying quite well for it. If you're interested, I'll inform the upper management and get you to help with it."
I shook my head, "I can't go on a business trip. Anne will be scared if she's left alone at home. I can't leave her alone."
He said with a smile, "I have considered that. You basically won't have to travel for this outstation job, and because of the number of staff, this position has two wages and one is the salary for the hotel reception. After all, Hovell is a small county. Business is usually slow and reception work is limited, so the company would usually arrange one person to do two jobs here."
I was stunned, but a little moved by his offer. "How much is the salary?"
"8000 dollars!" After a pause, he said, "As a university graduate, you've wasted your talent by being a cleaner. Plus, Anne's growing up and your expenditure will rise. You won't be able to afford it with a cleaner's salary."
That was true. When I left Ucrebury back then, I didn't have much money left after buying a house and paying for our expenses these past years.
Anne would need to go to school in the future. She was almost five, and most children began to cultivate interests during this time. A few days ago, I even thought of signing her up for an art class. After thinking for a while, I asked him, "Are you sure?"
He nodded. "Of course!"
"Thank you so much!" I replied.
He laughed, "You're too courteous. But it's not enough to just thank me. You'll have to treat me a big meal." "No problem!" I answered.
